Nothing for my scalp, but for my strands I pre-poo w/one of the Tresemme Naturals conditioners or Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle. I do this before every wash.
After pre-pooing I either cleanse with clay or DevaCurl No-Poo Decadence. Then apply leave-in and gel. Thanks for replying! You pre-poonwithba conditioner then shampoo and condition again?
I use a modified version of chicoro's prepoo. Check out thread 'You need a moisture drenched prepoo'.
I don't prepoo. My low porosity head found no benefit to it. It just added another step.
Are you sure you aren't high porosity?
I read it but not sure I can do this in a salon. My beautician will do what I ask but it seems to involved fair that setting. Any way to modify it?
Thanks for replying!!I prepoo with my deep conditioner.
Today's word of the day: hygral fatigue I knew the concept but not the term of art. I'm always learning something on this board. Thanks for replying!I prepoo with various oil blends. I had stopped doing it, but then started back because I forgot the hair's potential to get hygral fatigue (not fun to deal with, I got it a few years ago when I first went natural).
I think I can do this!! I need to review the progress again but now it sounds doable! Thanks!!!I really do not pre poo anymore but when I did this was the method I used. Having said that could you maybe take a bottle of the e/oil mixed then a thing of coconut oil? All I did was pour the aloe/castor oil mix on my hair then coat it with coconut oil and you can sit under the dryer.
Although my hair isn't low porosity, I've been vigorously testing the pre-poo step for over a year. After sampling countless products (oils, conditioners, butters, serums), product combinations (e.g., oil/butter/conditioner alone, oil + conditioner, oil + butter, conditioner + butter, etc.) and techniques (e.g., with heat, without heat, with steam, heating the product prior to application, various processing times, on dry hair, on dampened hair, on wet hair, etc.), I recently stumbled upon the most effective pre-poo method for my hair: EVCO on dry hair under a cap with or without heat for 30 minutes; for less oil drippage and more slippage for detangling purposes, add certain conditioners on top. As a result, I suggest giving plain EVCO a try before sampling anything else. I avoided EVCO for years since it always made my hair feel stiff and rough early in my journey, but something said it won't hurt to give it another shot. I'm glad I did because it has been working like a dream; I'm currently rotating between Dabur Vatika Oil and Hairveda Vatika Oil. FWIW, I began pre-pooing in order to address my detangling, SSK and fragility issues (if I don't pre-poo prior to cleansing and DCing, I will get constant tangles, knots, SSKs and breakage; and detangling is a nightmare).
Don't forget to come back and tell us what you've decided to try and how it all went.
Thanks for replying! Are you using the vatika oils on your length? EVCO on your scalp?
My pleasure. Both of the Vatika Oils are EVCO-based products and I methodically smooth them onto my hair from root to tip. If some of it gets on my scalp, that's fine, but I don't purposefully apply it there.
Got it! I have an appointment tomorrow so I'll try this one first since I have everything already. I'll figure out more of the logistics of Chicoro's pre poo
What is everyone using for your pre poo on your scalp and on your strands/length?
I was thinking of using Njoy on my scalp and a shea butter-aloe mix on my strands. I prepoo under the dryer for 20 mins to start my weekly wash routine.
