Questions about braids

Do I have enough hair to get braids/What is enough?

Also, when I told a friend I was thinking about getting some, she said , "What kind?"
I only know about box and tree braids. Considering I'm getting it as a protective style for the fall/winter season, what would be the best to consider?

The first picture is from when i first buzzed it and the second picture was from today. I have about an inch and a half-ish of hair except for my kitchen, which around an inch.

I'm bumping this for replies...I wanna know if it's practical to think I can get braids in by mid-September.

I'd wait until the hair is about 3 inches min.
