How do you fit vitamins into your daily routine? Do you have a schedule? Do you take your vitamins the same time each day? I am asking because I am trying to get back into the habit of taking vitamins again but I just keep forgetting to take them. I used to take them in the morning with my birth control pill but lately I have been forgetting that too. How do you work your vitamins into your day?

Hey Honeyrocket,
I keep my vits in the kitchen so it's very easy to remember mine when I eat. I take them three times per day with meals and it's second nature to me now.

I take mine all at the same time at night now with my last meal. I used to pay attention to this factor all the time. The less I seem to think about my vitamin regimen and when to take them the more my hair thrives. I think my hair does it to piss me off. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I find it hard to take all those pills every day, so I take mines every other day after I finish with my taebo exercise. Once I get into the groove of taking them again, Ill start to take epo and flaxseed on the days that Im not taking ultranourishair and biotin.

I take mine all at the same in the morning at work. I keep them in my desk drawer. I also make sure I take a supply home when I purchase for the weekends/holidays. I don't buy extra bottles, I just count out what I would need. Of course this works better for me during the weekdays. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I keep my vitamins on the nightstand, right next to my bed. I have corn flakes every morning and after I go downstairs to fix breakfast, I come back upstairs and the vitamins are staring me in the face, so I have no choice but to remember to take them.

It's a very good reminder to have the vitamins handy someplace that you see constantly, like the medicine cabinet, nightstand, kitchen cabinet, etc.

Hi HoneyRockette,

I have my vitamins on a shelf right next to my computer, so I always remember them. I take them all at once in the morning. I would like to split them up but I feel as if I would forget them. /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif:

I take my vitamins/supplements with breakfast, lunch and before I go to bed (3 times a day /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif ). I have an old altoids tin that I use to carry them with me.

I was reading an article that said that after 12 hours the body excretes all the MSM it doesn't need so I figure that I'll try to take that every 12 hours. Maybe I'll do 1000 mg at 7am and another 1000 mg at 7pm. Does anyone know how long it takes for other vitamins (particularly Biotin and Pantothenic Acid) or multi-vitamins to be excreted from the body?

I usually take mine in the morning before work, but I did read somewhere, that if you take them at night you get maximum benefit. I also wonder about empty stomach vs. full, because I'm not a morning eater.

HoneyRockette:
Like ElizaBlue, I also read in a Health mag that you get maximum benefit from taking vitamins before bed. Something to do with your body being a relaxed state and if you're sleeping your not peeing them out /images/graemlins/sleeping.gif

I'm sure there are "experts" who have conflicting views. But that's what I've been following. And I also keep mine in the kitchen. It's really helped me remember to take them.

HTH

i'm glad to hear this because i take mine at night. /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/sleep8.gif /images/graemlins/sleeping.gif

I take powdered MSM with OJ with my morning cereal. Plus one iron supplement, B5 and maybe a multi.

At lunch time I take the biotin with lunch. I also take a spoon of flax oil when I get to work (which sits in the office fridge). I have *just* started taking protein shakes (love the one I have, tastes like a McDonalds milkshake /images/graemlins/smile.gif ) and I have that at lunch time. At the moment I'm having it like every other day but want to take it just after working out.

At home at nights I take one more B5. I have to take supps with meals or I get woozy and feel wierd /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Okay, I have never taken a protein shake before but THIS makes me want one badly!
By the by, the MSM powder in your orange juice is a fab idea that I never thought of..

I keep mine on my nightstand too with a bottle of water and I take them when I go to bed. I make it so convenient that I can't forget to take them.

Brownrelaxedhair, what kind of protein shakes are you drinking? I have a soy protein one by SlimFast that I have either for breakfast or lunch every day. You can mix it with water and it's pretty good but I'd like to switch up with something else.

I put all my vits in a pill box and i keep them in the fridge that way i will never forget to take them. i take half in the morning with a protien shake and the rest in the evening with dinner.

I take mine at least twice a day, in the morning with my breakfast, this morning however, I crushed all my vitamins, with a rolling pin and added weak ginger beer (with water), mixed with fresh orange juice and took them. The taste wasn't too pleasant, but it absorbs in the system. I take Step 2 of the Hair Formula 37 about half an hour after and take them after with water at night, while going to bed. It is true the vitamins are supposed to have a better absorbtion at night, because you are more relaxed. /images/graemlins/sleep.gif /images/graemlins/sleep8.gif /images/graemlins/user.gif

I just found a bunch of articles that say that vitamins for the most part should be taken with meals and they should be taken at the same time each day so that you will remember to take them.
More of what I learned:
<ul type="square"> [*] Looks like you shouldn't take calcium at the same time as your multivitamin, zinc, or iron
[*] Stagger your vitamin intake because some vitamins can deplete the absorption rate of others and this also decreases the amount excreted
[*] Fat soluble vitamins (such as A, D, E, and K) should be taken with some food because they require some fat to be absorbed
[*] Amino acid supplements are best taken at least 30 minutes before any other food. Amino acids in food compete with amino acid supplements, lowering their absorption

Well at least I'm doing something right. I take my Aminos 3x a day. When I first get up before I've had anything, about an hour before I have lunch and just before I go to bed. Hopefully something is being absorbed. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

<font color="blue">I take my vitamins every morning and evening.
I take my cal and mag before I go to bed.....I read somewhere that at night is the best time to take it. I think cause taking care of my hair is always on my brain so I never forget. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Thanks, BRH. If I decide to try it, I'll letcha know. I'm gonna look in GNC and see what they have to offer as well.

Hi HoneyRockette,

I take mine everyday at 1:00pm. It's easier this way because I eat lunch at 12 and when I take them at 1:00pm, it's easy for me to remember. It's like brushing your teeth after every meal.

Caress, thanks for the tip! In addition to my hair vits I also take calcium, a multi and iron. I didn't know not to take the calcium with these vitamins.

Robin,

Here's a link to the protein shake I take. I got the rec from a friend who does personal training. It really tastes nice. I have the strawberries and cream one and mix it with soy milk (not just plain water). Its not cheap though so be warned! Its a big size though: 3LBs. I paid $45 and its normally $56.

OOoooo, that stuff is tasty-- I switch between it and Nature's Plus Fruitien. I used to get the ISO 3 pounder at 2-the-extreme.com for around $30.

I drink my vitamins either the ISO or the Fruitien for breakfast before I go walk. Seems to give me energy for my workout and keeps me away from coffee and donuts /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I don't take my vitamins the same time each day.... I tried that...I am not that organized.

I went to Walgreens and purchased one of those Monday - Friday Pill boxes, and I take vitamins in split doses about 5 x's per day.

So I carry the box around, and I am on a program where I EAT 5x's per day as well, so, I take my vitamins with each meal. But the vitamin seperator helps to keep me organized.

I still think I may check with my doctor to make sure this info is accurate. At any rate, I'm going to take my vitamins 3 times a day since I eat 3 meals a day.

I have problems eating enough everyday so I have split up my pills in plastic bags. By taking them with me in my purse it helps me remember to eat. I take one multi three times a day with my major meals. I split up my biotin and take two in the morning and three at night, essential oil with lunch since I usually have some salad and meat. I also take veggie and fruit supplements now and I take the fruit one in the morning and the veggie one at night. One thing that helps me remember to take my vitamins is a reward system I have set up. If I do my yoga three time a week, do my cardio and weights three times a week and take all of my vitamins I get to go and buy a new hair product or skin care product. Otherwise I can't buy anything so in order to support being a proud PJ I must follow my new healthy habits.

Hi Monicurl, so you like that protein shake too?

I've definitely developed a taste for it. I'm going to start drinking it now after the gym from next week.

Its expensive but tastes good.

Cheers! /images/graemlins/cheers.gif

When I started taking my vitamins, I would take them early in the morning before my breakfast. It consisted of 1 Biotin, 2 evening primose, 1 flaxseed Oil, 1 MSM, 1 Silica and 2 NourishHair.

I stopped because I didn't like the additional hair growth in "other" areas!!!!!! YUCK!
