Question for Protein Shakers

There are so many of them out there. What are you ladies drinking? It'd be nice to find one that will help me tone up will I'm working out. I saw the Ultra Hair thick shake at the Vitamin Shoppe today. I may try that one. I'm open to all suggestions.

I make my own shakes because I'm allergic to milk and somtimes it can be hard finding a shake that does not contain lactose products.

I use Hemp protein - which has no taste or smell, but makes everything an ugly color, and MLO Vegetable Protein which is very good too - I've used this one for a couple of years. No smell, no taste, not chaulky, and I like the effects it has on my body in terms of my skin, hair, and nails, as well as the good it has done in helping me lower my cholesterol.

I buy both at The Vitamin Shoppe.

I use Whey Protein...vanilla flavor. Sometimes I throw in yogurt, sometimes milk, sometimes water.

Add any kind of fruit. I usually add frozen pineapples, strawberries or blueberries.

Add a juice if you want.

Just watch your calorie count. The more you add..you know the deal. They're really good and perfect for a quick nutritious meal.

Add Splenda if you need it sweeter.

Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex. 55 grams of protein (whey), 4 carbs. It's the best thing going for your body and hair and the taste is great. I usually get Rocky Road.

I Use Bodytech (Vitaminshoppe brand) Pro 24 Banana Cream Flavor Protien. The vanilla is nasty, and I haven't tried chocolate or chocomint yet. I drink it twice a day. It's a staple of mine and has been doing wonders for my weight loss too! Don't know how it effects my hair though...

Oh, that sounds good! Where do you get this from?

Wow newflowers, I didn't know you could make your own. I'm not allegic to milk, but am semi-vegetarian.
I'll have to try and track down some hemp or vegetable protein ingredients here.

I'm also lactose intolerant and have used Optimum nutrition which is not bad. I mostly use LEF's Whey Protien in vanilla because it dosen't get globby in water.

Where did you purchase this?

I guess that I am simple. I just order protein from Quixtar (aka amway) and I love it! It mixes really well, w/ just a shake or too, and I can even mix it w/ water. I usually take a large scoop of protein shake to 1/2 scoop of chocolate slim fast. I make these w/ water to save on the calories.

I drink Designer Whey from the Vitamin Shoppe. I like the Vanilla Prailine and the Chocolate.
Ditto. :yep:

I also like Strawberry, French Vanilla and Chocolate Caramel. I use mainly berries-strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and I like my shakes super thick and creamy (almost have to eat it with a spoon), using stevia for more sweetness if necessary.:p

Do protein shakes cause weight gain?

Well, it's extra calories... so if you eat the same amount as you usually do but have protein shakes as well and don't exercise... then probably.

Wow ladies, thank you for all your input. My hair has been shedding like crazy. Unfortunately, my hair lost more than half it's volume. :crying3: So yesterday I got it cut, because it looked weird so thin and long. I want to start all over. Implementing some protein treatments. And I figured drinking protein would help from the inside out.

It depends on how much sugar is in the protein powder (shake) that you buy. There are specific weight gainer protein shakes and mixes out there with added sugars for those that want to gain weight, like Muscle Milk. Just compare the sugar content before you buy. For the most part, protein with diet and exercise helps you build muscle which in turn burns fat equaling weight loss.

Jay Robb's Whey Protein chocolate, it's great and grows my hair nicely. It also reduces my appetite and makes me uhmmmmmmmm regular.

I made this really great protein shake which is low in sugar and low in carbs.

I mix a can of strawberry atkins milk shake which has only 1 gram of sugar and then I use this protein mix called ISOPURE, you can get it at GNC. It is pure protein. Then I mix 2 scoopfuls and add 4 ozs of water and then add real whipped cream and shake it up and WOW!!!

It taste great to me and it totals about 65gms of PROTEIN with one gram of SUGAR!

Iask my trainer if it was okay and said that's great, he said the key is to have high protein , low carb/sugar in your diet to really speed up the weight lost.

I have already lost 20lbs in 6 weeks :)

Let me know if you liked it :)

I tried the French Vanilla flavor, and I didn't care for it.:ohwell: It wasn't bad, it just didn't have much "vanilla flavor" IMO. I prefer Jay Robb's Whey Protein. No artificial sweeteners, 24 g protein per serving, and no hormones. I make mine into shakes with frozen berries, or I mix it into plain, nonfat yogurt with ground flaxseeds for breakfast.

It's on the pricey side, though.

thats correct. you should try to chose the flavors that have the fewest sugars in them. once you start going with the more appealing flavors, the sugars go up!!! 2g-5g is what i go for
