Recently I was told by two people that I had to keep my hair pressed or my scalp won't be able to breathe because my hair is so thick. I didn't let them do it but has anyone else heard this??

Stay far away from those people because they are lying. I would have bust out laughing in their faces:lachen:. I'm laughing right now actually.

If that were true my scalp would have "suffocated" a long long time ago.

Anyway, how's your transition going?

I have never heard that, and it sounds like bad 'advice.'

I'm with MSA. I'm gonna need you to stay away from them. LOL.

Geez, where does this stuff come from.:lachen: I've never heard that before, but it is rubbish. I've been natural 49 of my 50 years on this earth, an my scalp has never suffocated through all of the different lengths that I've chosen to wear from 3in to WL. I've flatiron/pressed, and worn it completely natural, and my scalp is fine either way.

People will tell you anything and everything....girlfriend you will hear it all being natural.

I have thick, compact hair myself, so I can see how it would LOOK like air can't get through

but no, it's not true.

I have never heard that (sounds like they made that up on the spot). Please don't listen to them. My hair is curly 99% of the time and my hair is growing just fine.

How does the two people who told you, with natural hair look like?

Why do people always make up crazy wives tales about natural hair??... "Your Hair will suffocate", "you won't get a job, because its not professional" "Dreadlocks are dirty and un-kempt" When will it end

Its not true. I have only straightened my hair like 4 times in 2 years. People always offer advice and feel they know more then you, just focus on what your hair responds to the best.

It was very frustrating at first but it's getting alot better thank you for asking. Still not ready to cut it all yet.

It sure seems like it. I have yet to find anyone locally who seems like they know what they're talking about.

They're not natural. One is a beauty school student who said she went natural once and couldn't stand it, the other is just a friend of my husbands who cornrowed my hair for me. I don't think I should let her touch me again.

I've only straightened once in my 14.5 mos as a natural. My scalp deserves an Oscar if it's not breathing. :lachen: It fooled me.

Seriously, I think as long as you keep it clean it will breath just fine.:yep:

Please back away from these two regarding ALL things dealing with natural hair with a quickness! Thank You......

If that was the case then me and my scalp would be dead, dead, dead and stinkin! :lachen:

UM:ohwell: They have got to be kidding right. Your scalp can't breathe? Our hair isn't made out of concrete or something, that doesn't make sense.

Did they try to pee on your back and tell you it was raining too? :lachen: I never heard such bull in all my life.

It would be funny if I wasn't sure they where dead serious....and the one that was a beauty student??? We should start praying for her future client's RIGHT NOW!

Ohh I like the sound of that... We could make a saying called the NB protective style, the No Breathe Hair care method will make your hair grow. We could even have a challenge for it... I'm really cracking up right now!

Nope, never heard it before.
It's bull crap.
But I'd want them to explain exactly what they mean by it can't breathe and I'd want them to explain the ramifications of suffocation of the scalp.

All the while I'd look at them with the small eye... just shaking my head.
