Question for mild perm users

I have always used regular strength perms on my hair, but I am thinking to switching to mild. The stylist I went to suggested it as an option after anylizing my hair. I know I would get a much better curl pattern if I went with mild. This is my problem. I love my dominican roller sets. My fear is that My roller sets won't do well with a mild perm. The stylist said I would probably have to blow dry and flat iron to get a straigter effect. I do not want to do that. So my question is do any of you ladies find you get good roller sets with mild relaxers? I have my hair listed as 4a with some 3c, but to be honest, I really do not know what my hair is. I have a lot of hair but the hair is fine. And my hair swells very easily (this is why I am concerned). Right now I am about 10 weeks post relaxer and I really like how the new growth feels. So I just don't know what to do. Any feedback would be great. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have 3a/b hair that's color-treated and fine in texture. I switched a month ago from Regular no-lye to Mild lye relaxer. This gave me great results without any problems at all. I found that some of the ladies here with 4a hair use the Mild and have acheived excellent results with it. You should have no problem using the Mild relaxer. Maybe you can post some pics of your relaxed hair for us to take a look at.

I'm 3c/4a and Affirm Lye Mild works great on my hair. It doesn't get my hair bone straight, but I like it that way. I also think it depends on the brand of relaxer. I've used other brands in the Mild formula and they didn't straighten well enough for me. I hope it works out well for you.

Oh yeah, I rarely rollerset my hair. I use direct heat which always straightens my hair, no matter what.

I use a mild as well and I really, really like it. I find that my rollersets are straight if I do them the right way. Any add'l straightening I desire I achieve by wrapping my hair overnight. I also rollerset on medium for about 10-15 mins then on low for the remainder of the time, so I'm sure a higher setting would also make it straighter. But I find that over time my hair gets straighter everyday anyway.

I think if the stylist is suggesting a milder relaxer you don't need a stronger one to really straighten your hair. I'd ignore the suggestion that you'd need more heat, b/c if that's the case why change relaxer strength???

thanks for the feedback, ladies. I have decided to go for the Affirm Mild next time. I am also probably the last person on earth without a digital camera - Hopefully I will have some pictures up by the end of the year!
