I get roots only, cause I like my hair to have bounce and curls. I like big hair, straight doesn't look well on me.

Me Too!!! I just like the curls & bounce to drop naturally.

I only get my roots done. After years of getting my whole head done my hair started thinning. This has made a BIG difference in the condition of my hair.

generally, i get the full blowout simply because i've never asked for anything else... actually i've never asked for anything but a wash and set and then they just go to work doing everything else.. it's all good for me though because i only go to them when i want my hair straight... if i want to keep the curls, then i can go to my moms stylist or do it myself...

I get a full blowout, but I only go every 2-3 months anyway. My hair is also thick, so I feel that I can get away with it. If I were to go more often, I'd still get the full one every 2-3 months, but the other times get my roots blown, or just not get it blown out, so that my hair wouldn't suffer. :)

I always get a full blowout when I go, but I only go a few times a year so it's not too damaging. If I went more often, I would definitely get just the roots blown.

I haven't gotten a blow-out (full or partial) since I started transitioning! I miss them though!! When I was relaxed I would only get the roots done and it always turned out silky! By the way, OP your hair is gorgeous!!!!

I go fairly regularly (every 10 days to 2 weeks) , so I only get the roots blown out. You know how fine hair is...more than that will just make your hair really thin. But shoot, if I had coarse hair, I would not hesitate to get a full blowout at least once a month. I used to love getting it blown out and flipped on the ends.

I must say...(Dominican Salon plug  ) that I just love how they carefully detangle and rollerset your hair. My hair is always detangled with a wide tooth comb and loads of conditioner. This is never done at other places I've been.

Thanks girl!!!!!!!!!! :D I go once a week..... but i only get the roots blown out.

I get a full blowout, once every 3 months, in order to take my Progress Pics (because this shows the full length). So in all my Progress Pics in my Fokti, that is a blowout. But yeah, on a regular weekly basis, my hair is fuller with more body, and looks a lot shorter (cuz it hasnt been blown out)

Thanks for the info!:) Running to Dominican Salon!

i went one time yes they blew my whole head out but they hounded me so bad about putting a relaxer in my hair so i never went back ( i prefer to do my own relaxers )

That's a damn shame! Thank goodness the salon I go to doesn't pressure me to get a relaxer, even during the times that my hair is 16 weeks post! :)

I only get my roots blown out if necessary (I'm more that 8 weeks post). Other than that I notice that if I get a good rollerset my roots are already pretty straight and any roller dents are gone by the time I unwrap my hair latter that evening.

I do occasionally get full blowouts, but thats only if I have to go out immediately after I leave the salon.

Neither. I like big hair so I just keep the curls. The only time I may get the roots blown is if I'm in NY and I have a considerable amount of NG. I've gotten a blowout a couple of times here in Detroit and both times the dryer was so hot it brought me to tears!

I guess the stylists in NY just have a better technique b/c I've never been burned when they do my roots.

ETA: If the NG is too much for them to handle I flat iron it with my FHI when I get home.:)

I used to go every 2 months or so b4 LCHF and I don’t think that’s an issue I always get my hair blown root to tip and since I am a natural I honestly feel like it wont be sleek enough unless I do, I feel though that my hair looks better or more full of body if I flat iron it myself. Either way I only like to use direct heat on my hair once every 2 months or so and this works for me, I also can get away without washing my hair for a month which some people might think is NASTY , but I grew up on not washing my hair much and it doesn’t stink or anything

I just get mine roller set and wrapped and I take it down when I get home. Its the same as any other salon but the way my hair feels after the dominicans do it is priceless. I dont get it blown out because my hair doesnt do well with it.

But it just looks sooo darn GOOOOOOODDDD!!!!!!!!!! *sigh* :(

It's soooo addictive. I was going every week and getting roots only. But I overprocessed my hair by relaxing every 8 weeks. So the overprocessing + the blow drying (even the roots) equaled disaster. So I'm not going back for a while. No one can take care of my hair better than I can. After it gets stronger, thicker and longer, I'll go back...but roots only. I still go to get my eyebrows done so I can get my dose of "Hey Mami!" and my merange (sp?) music.

OT: My family finally watched Madhot Ballroom. We ALL want to take lessons. After the movie, we ballroom danced until we literally fell out. :lachen: It's a GREAT family movie...inspiring and educational!

I have a question along similar lines...

Ya'll know about "flips" right? I used to get them constantly before LHCF, but I'm scared doing it will jeopardize the health of my hair. Is there a way you can get the sleek look of a flip by getting your roots blown only? Any tips?

I only get my roots blown out because i don't think my hair is strong enough and I don't trust them with that much heat. Besides I love the curls.

Okay not to hijack the thread or anything but I got a couple of questions:
1. How long does your hair have to be to get a blowout?
2. Do they flat iron after they do the blowout?
3. Do naturals need to get a full blowout or is your hair taut enough on the rollers that it doesn't look not smooth?
4. Any Dominican salons in the DC area that are nice to the naturals and don't hound them to get relaxers?
Thanks

I only get the roots blown out. And the chick I go to knows not to keep the dryer in the same place for too long. Sometimes when you say "just the roots" they still blow out midway down the length of your hair. But the stylists I usually go to just taps the roots lightly, sometimes the curl doesn't straighten completely but that's okay. The only reason I do it is for stretching my relaxer. I think getting full blowouts can thin, break fine hair over time.

Also, after relaxing my hair, I don't get my roots blown at all for atleast 4 weeks. I wait for a consideralble amount of new growth b-4 getting the roots blown out. So during these first few weeks, I just have the stylist take out the rollers and wrap my hair w/pins (doobie). Then I pin curl b-4 bed to get that curly look if I want it.

For a year+, I have gotten a full blow-out weekly. My hair became thin, so I started getting the rollerset, and supposedly, just the roots blown out. Each week, my stylist would spend more time with the blowdryer. Each time I complained about my hair's thinness or the broken hair around my hairline, she always blamed me. I decided (since I was now wearing protective styles), to stop going weekly, and only go for my touch up every 9 weeks. This is not a Dominican Salon (Allure Day Spa in NYC - 55th Street), but my stylist, Alex is Dominican. Interestingly though, I asked her sister (who is a shampoo person at the spa) if she had her hair blown out weekly and she "oh, no, that's too damaging to the hair". I firmly believe, no one will care about your hair the way you do.

I was once a fan of full dominican blow outs, but realized my fine 3 b/c hair was suffering (dry and breaking)....I only do the roots now every wk...I havent been there in almost 3wks:eek: ...which is crazy 4 me,but Im 11wks post (stretching to 12wks) and I dont want any heat on my NG...Kini Ive been using your advice with the co-washing at home, thanks girl;)

I went to a Dominican salon once and had a full blowout. My hair looked awful: straight, flat, limp, yuck.

When I used to go it'd be once a week and I'd just let my stylist blow the entire hair. She did it in a way where the ends remained silky and strong. It may have been the serum that she'd run through my hair first, but the cuticles would always remained sealed and the ends would never suffer any breakage, so I trusted her technique!

I also went to the Dominican Salon once. My hair had never been so straight & full of swing & bounce BUT the heat was a little too hot for me. It gave me a dry/dandruff scalp & I had to shampoo 2 days later.:(

I didn't know you could just get the roots blown out.
I will ask next time I go... well... maybe not
since I'm stretching my relaxer for 6 months.

I go to Dominican salons, but not weekly. However, I am wondering if I can use them as a way to grow out my hair. I'm contemplating whether to continue relaxing or go natural.

Did any of you use this? I may start a new thread. Currently, I only have my roots blown out, not my full head.

I get my roots only because I don't want the damage that results IME from having the stylist straighten the length. The way my stylist wields a blowdryer it might as well be a flat iron.

Do you go weekly? Your hair is so beautiful, it doesn’t look damaged at all.
