Well, a lot of the ladies here were saying that they received a coupon from Bath and Beyond or Linens n Things that took off some money for the glide, but I didn't get a coupon I paid 79.99 for the glide, but that joker is so worth it! No more 'ceramic iron' hunting!

Squealing with delight because I can go to Linen and Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond. I have coupons for all of them.

I don't know the ingredients in them but they're supposed to protect your hair. These irons reach very high temperature, and can permanently straighten your hair. We've had many horror stories already, and I think (I may be wrong) that most of the ladies who had this problem didn't use a heat protectant.

Actually after you expressed a longing for straight hair, and I read that you had been to Atlanta, I was going to suggest a natural salon that I used that straightens hair. Now, I see that you don't need that suggestion. You didn't have to blow dry it before or anything?

I think heat protectant is a good idea for people who use heat often or use really high heat. If your hair is healthy and you just use heat every blue moon you'll probably be alright. BUT, I think most people just don't like to take any chances, especially after all the horror stories.

Does anyone have that thread saved from back in the day with all those heat protectant ingredients? Lemme see if I can find it...

Not for the tester pic. I just combed out a small section of my twist. For the rest of my hair, I used the cool setting to straighten my hair.

The only heat protectant used in my hair whehn I went to a salon was like a quarter sized amount of serum dont ask me how that protected my whole head...but the less product the better IMO. My hair turns out worse with high heat anyway....medium to low works best.

I don't know much about heat protectants. what I do know that a Andre Walker (Oprah's stylist and teh person who came up with one of the systems we use to catagorize our hair) says that there really isn't such thing as a heat protectant. That they really do not work. He says so in his book. (Not that is is etched in stone). It may work for some and may not work for others.

I read another thread about maxiglide about a week ago...ARMYQT? I can't remember. Anyway, after I saw her daughter's hair....well, needless too say, it's been on my mind until today. When I saw that 20% off coupon for Bed,Bath, & Beyond in my mailbox today, I was there! I used it this evening. I-WAS-AMAZED! It was ridiculous how straight my hair was. I kept saying "I feel like I have a relaxer!" to my SO. I know he thought I was crazy but who cares. Anyway, I am 7 weeks post relaxer and had just said today that something's got to give. I was about to relax tomorrow! Now, I don't know if I'll ever get one again. My hair is about 2 inches below my shoulders and it took me all of 10 minutes to go thru it.
Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend it. It was more than worth the money. I just have a couple of questions for all maxiglide users.

1) How long did your straightened hair last on average?
2) Would doing this once every week be overkill? I still have to wash my hair. I normally wash 2-3 times a week but I can break it down to once a week for the sake of not using too much heat.
3)Once your hair dries, what do YOU personally put on your hair, if anything, before using the maxiglide? ORS Olive Oil Moisturizer? IC Fantasia Heat Serum? Whatever you like to use, list it. I need some ideas.

Would especially like to hear from transitioners/stretchers. I hope I didn't hijack your thread BUB! I'm with you and need info.!

My hair is natural so I do it once a week in the winter months b/c wet hair, this time of year = flu for me. Plus with it straight it cuts down my morning styling time b/c I only wear it in a bun now. I think I am part of a bun challenge. LOL

I use Paul Mitchell's Skinny Serum and apply to wet hair along with BBD Stretch. I think blow dry it so it is dry. Then I section it and use Dudley's pressing creme on each section before I apply the Maxi. I think the pressing creme is what repels moisture because even when I wash my hair out I have to sit under the water for a few minutes before the straighteness of my hair starts reverting back to kinky. When water hits it it doesn't automatically revert. I had snow land on it to the point my head was wet and it didn't revert. I think that is due to the wax in the pressing creme repelling it. The Maxi also holds up great to humidity too.

When I am done straightening I use Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops to enhance its shininess.
