PSA: Proper Hair Posting Etiquette! :)

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I am with you on this one, sister! But that was still my favorite thread of all time. Okay...mine:

  • Can someone please help us with the word "regimen?" It's regimen, not regime or regiment.
Definitions:

Regime - noun - a mode or system of rule or government: a dictatorial regime
Regiment - noun - a unit of ground forces, consisting of two or more battalions or battle groups, a headquarters unit, and certain supporting units.

The correct word is:

Regimen - noun - a regulated course, as of diet, exercise, or manner of living, intended to preserve or restore health or to attain some result.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:

I was on another site where people kept referring back to the same pics in TEN PAGES:nono: We're not quite that bad, but please, DON'T!

And the thing with suspense building, again not my favorite. OP, I was jsut thinking similar thoughts to yours the other day. Thanks for starting this!

:lachen:I'm guilty of this, but only in the Apl by Dec. thread.:look::grin:

There should be visual examples to help people out in this thread. This is too funny.

Also try to make your pictures as clear as possible to avoid any length confusion. Wearing the same top when you do comparison makes it easier as well just a suggestion.

*covers up siggy* :look:
Do you have any tips for taking pics without raising the arms? I've tried putting the camera on a timer, and then running to get in front of it, but then it's not focused right, or it just comes out looking crazy. :perplexed

You can set it on your shoulder with one hand. I took a really good length shot like this the other day.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I am with you on this one, sister! But that was still my favorite thread of all time. Okay...mine:

  • Don't make a rude, snooty comment on a long thread, get corrected about it and never show up to the thread again.
  • Don't say you're 80% relaxed and 20% natural. What IS that?!?! Renatural? Nelaxed? It doesn't exist.
  • Don't say you're 4b when you're clearly 2b...and vice versa. Don't say you're 3a when you're clearly 4b. :nono: Not sure what the rationale is behind that but...anywhooooo...

  • Thank people when you create a thread and they compliment or respond otherwise. Even if you don't agree, thank them. They didn't have to take time to respond. To keep up with peoples' responses, subscribe to the threads you create.
  • Be nice, open to other ideas, and treat people how you want to be treated yourself - with dignity and respect. None of us is right all the time.
  • Don't be prideful and assume that your long hair automatically makes you the expert on all things hair-related. The attitude comes across these many miles of internet. We see you. (Not everyone is like this, but if you feel uncomfortable reading this...you know it's you. *giggles* :lachen: Just kidding, but ya'll know what I'm trying to say.)
  • By the same token, please give respect to true hair veterans and don't come up in here with EL hair giving a bunch of advice. LOL
Girl...you created the first best thread and the second one too!! (IMHO) Glad I am on the bandwagon early.

Hopefully, others will continue to chime in as well...GREAT THREAD!!!

I cannot thank you enough. I keep seeing this written by grown educated women. Its is REGIMEN. I just :nono: every time I see it.

Ya'll are cra-zay! I’m glad this is in good fun cuz I gotta say…

Expect to get all of these no-no’s from me at some point in the future (possibly many times). You’ve been warned!

On a serious note though: Being too rigid MAY turn folks off from fully participating and enjoying the experience. Accept each other’s idiosyncrasies…

I need to exit this thread cuz ya'll are going to make me self-conscious about 'doing it right' according to each and every member’s standard up in here! This is way too much pressure for me.

Nice thread.

Just want to chime in on regimen vs regime.

I always say regimen. But, and I apologize in advance for any gag reflex my next statement may trigger, regime is now a synonym for regimen. I know, I know. But that doesn't bother me as much as "irregardless" being in the dictionary, whether informal or not. :wallbash:

OK, about regime:

The first definition of regime in Merriam Webster Dictionary is regimen (That link takes you to the reference site that shows this)
Encarta gives the fourth definition of regime as "an established system or way of doing things".
WordNet give the second meaning of the word regime as regimen.

And you can find more such definitions in:
American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language
http://www.synonyms.net/synonym/regime
http://www.visualthesaurus.com/land...ampaign=VT&utm_source=ddc&word=regime&lang=en

Maybe it's just American English that uses them interchangeably coz Collins, Longman, and Cambridge Dictionaries online don't seem to think that regime = regimen like all those other sites above do.

I agree! This board is made up so much diversity, it would be a shame for everyone to feel as though they had to behave a certain way. Variety is the spice of life!

And relax, girl, this is all in good nature. Unless you quote 50-11 pics. I'mma have to hit you with the :nono:.

But it's all out of love.

Hey, I'm exempt so I'm all set....

I think what's really nice about this thread is that there are things we think about all the time when reading each others' posts....things we think about but have never had the room to share...or maybe things we wanted to write but didn't because we didn't want to be perceived as being some kind of way. It's soooo easy to offend when writing when we really mean no harm. You brought this up in such a sweet and lighthearted way. Love it!

Anyway...sorry 4 hijacking. Just wanted you to know...

I am on the FLOOR laughing right now. Honestly. :lachen::lachen: I was reading last night and hoping for a regimen and the poster didn't put one. I found it on Youtube instead. How 'bout I looked for a regimen like it from about 10pm to midnight???

Good one!

 @ "regimen". Just yesterday I was like, "How do you spell that darn word!?"

Personally, I think length checks look best when people put those little lines across to show APL, BSL, etc. It cuts out all the interpretation of whether they have their shoulders hunched up, camera held wierd, etc...(or the picture artificially stretched vertically--yes, I saw it!) :look:

Stop asking!

Stop asking "Am I apl? bsl? lmnopl?"

You know where your body parts/bra strap are! If you have to ask then the answer is probably NO. I've seen VERY few instances where it's iffy and not obvious.

And stop lying and telling people they are when you know they ain't.

I like this thread :lachen:

Oh and stop stretching your pics to look like you made a hair goal when you obviously haven't. And if you have to ask, you haven't reached it yet. :D

Thanks! That's exactly what I was trying to do. :yep: Let everyone post about tiny grievances in a lighthearted manner. You can suggest things would being "rude" or "mean."

Hmmm, my thoughts exactly...

TOTALLY OT but yes, "irregardless" you are so right

um, may i add as a request that you please clothe your back with a bra at minimum before showing it to us along with your hair? especially if you are going to show us your whole back :-)

Bolded for emphasis!

Please stop the madness!

Okay, here's one... and I'll probably get roasted for this but...

PLEASE stop begging for "thank you's"! They are not like frequent flier miles or credit card reward points... you cannot cash them in after racking up a gazillion... sheesh!

ETA: I think some people's self-worth is actually tied to how many Thank You's they receive! :lachen:

Real talk right here...

If your "photo studio" (AKA bathroom or bedroom) is junky, pose in front of a door.

There are people here (we know who we are) who check out the backgrounds of pictures too and wonder why someone with a junky house would post that on LHCF.

I'm just saying!!!!

My peeve is when someone asks a question in the subject title of thread and there are responses like "I don't know" or "Sorry - I wish I could help"....

I know they mean no harm but if I was someone posting a question - I am all excited that my question is answered just to click and see "I don't know"....

Also being the devil's advocate - I see that sometimes that others intentionally bump for the OP when they state their "I don't knows" which is cool but just say "I don't know".....WTH!!!

Please, please, please take time and read threads before you post. There's nothing worse then reading a thread about a particular product (examples: MN or Mega-Tek) and seeing 30 posts sprinkled throughout the thread saying "What's MN?". :wallbash::wallbash:

I always wonder where people get those lines. Can you buy them online? Just kidding...but seriously, how do you get the lines? I think I can edit in Picasa, but adding lines has escaped me thus far. My hair is not long enough yet for any lines (I don't think) but I want to be prepared for when it is. Sorry for my ignorance.
