Can anyone here please tell me a good protein treatment and why? Along with how often you use it?
TIA
PS. Oh, and if you have pictures, that would be lovely.
Blessings,

I like Motions CPR and Revlon Duo-Tex. They both make my hair strong w/o making it hard. I have a pic of the Motions in my product album of my fotki.

for light protein: Aphogee 2 min reconstructor -leaves hair beautiful and bouncy, strong and manageable. it was the 1st condish that my hair drooled over. Looks like I'm fresh outta a salon everytime. safe to use every wash. I used it 3 times a week.

for heavy: Aphogee Protein Treatment (the one that gets hard) - leaves hair very strong and revitalized. completely rinse the prouct out until your hair feels soft and supple, the add the Aphogee balancing moisturizer. use every 6 - 8 wks as needed.

This is all I need for protein after that all i do is keep it moisturized.

My hair is kinda protein-sensitive, so I only use a protein conditioner about every four to six weeks. I use either Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner (has milk and egg white proteins) or Nature's Gate Jojoba Revitalizing Conditioner (contains keratin amino acids). I leave them on my hair no longer than 10 minutes, then follow with a moisturizing conditioner.

My protein treatments of choice are Ors Hair Mayo & Aphogee 2 min reconstructor

Ors i would pre poo with the 2 minute would be for days i feel hair lazy.

Motions Cpr let me down it was not strong enough to stop or slow my breakage (was in moisture overload hair was way to soft)

I tried Motions CPR on my last wash and as of right now my hair is still breaking:sad:. In a few weeks I plan on trying ORS Hair Mayo and see if that helps.

I use Duo Tex every week either by itself or mixed into my strengthening deep conditioneing mix that also consists of some (or all) of the following: conditioner, yogurt, egg, a tablespoon of whey protein powder, a tablespoon of my powdered herb mix (oat straw, sea kelp, horsetail, nettle, burdock, rosemary, fenugreek, barley grass, irish moss) gelatin, coconut milk, Apoghee keratin and green tea reconstructor, New Era reconstructor, cassia....

Henna (not a 'true' protien, but very protien-'like') once a month - about to step that down to once every six weeks.
This tub of stuff from the BSS - Remi Moisturizing Protien treatment - a mild protien, that I DC with.
The occasional coconut milk soak - I'd consider this a mild protien as well...

I don't use heavy protiens at all.

OMG you guys!
I have to step back.
Here I am all day "thinking" that no one responded to me. :spinning:
I thought surely there must be some hair experts out there on this subject. I don't think my subscription went to my email box. :perplexed
Anyway,
Thank you for your input and if anyone else have any comments, please feel free to chime in.

PS. I just visited a bss today and the lady there told me that protein breaks off the hair. Silly me, you'd think I'd walk away. Instead I ended up buying a product I already have which doesn't have protein in it.. :look:

I'm a newbie too. Bumping for more replies.

Has anyone tried Mizani Kerafuse? Is that better than Aphogee? (I know it costs more but that may not mean anything.)

Also how do you know if your hair is has too much protein and doesn't need to be treated as often? When it stops breaking?

So far, the best protein treatment I've used is Jheri Reddding Natural Protein. It makes my hair strong and also silky and soft. In addition to protein, it has apple cider vinegar in it which I believe aids in the silkiness and shine factor. IMO, it is not as strong as Aphogee for damaged hair (too strong for me). It smells funky (but not that bad imo) but it produces excellent results. It is supposed to be used every 6 weeks. I've only used it once and I'm sold. I plan to use it again in a few weeks.

Another protein treatment that I love is Redken Extreme Rescue force fortifying treatment. I use this the wash before my touch up which is about every 3-4 months. It's more like a reconstructor. It is very creamy and it also aids in strenthening my hair keeping it soft. It provides a really nice balance in moisture and protein imo. It is supposed to be used on a as needed basis; no set schedule.

For both treatments, my hair always comes out frizz free and smooth.
