I hardly ever use a reconstructor or protein treatment on my hair, in fact I have not used one since october. The only weekly protein item I use is giovanni deeper moisture conditioner which has very light on protein and a monthly coconut cream "relaxer" which works more as a protein treatment on my my hair. So I voted as needed.
So it all depends on your hair and what it likes. Mine never liked any store hardcore or mild ones I bought so that relaxes turned out to be heaven to my hair as a protein.
