I just eyeballed this relaxer in the BSS store and it has so many conditoning agent in the relaxing cream, more than I've seen in any realxer, lye or no lye, and I've eyeballed a few. It states it protectes against over processing and I love the fact that they give you Breakfree leav-in to put on your hair before you relax to protect the processed ends.

This stuff sounds like a winner, is anyone using this out there ?? I did a search and saw where a lot of us are using their product line for other items. TIA

I tried Profectiv's touch up last August and it was the worst relaxer I have had in my life. Everyone's different but I'd personally give this 2 thumbs down. My hair was so dry and underprocessed. It took two months to get it into condition again.

I agree with kitkat3ny. The first time I used it my hair felt wonderful but I did notice it was a little dry. The second time was completly upsetting my hair was very underprocessed and very dry. Now my hair is very dry and its going to take a good trim to get it back into shape. HTH

I'm sorry that happened! What type of relaxer did you use before the Profectiv touchup, what type of hair do you have, and what relaxer are you using now? I'm just asking because I'm new to the relaxer world and I'm trying to figure out what would be best for my fine 4b firs. Thanks for letting me know. :-)

I'm a 4b as well I was using ORS relaxer with good results, but I switched to the Profectiv because I just love some of their other products. I'm going to go back to ORS but I will continue to use the other Profectiv Products (healthy ends and break-free)..Good luck choosing a relaxer. You should search some of the other threads for some good advice about relaxers;) a lot of these ladies are pro's when it comes to the best relaxers:)

Tell me about it! I am on the same hunt for my next relaxer. Since I cut a lot of my hear off to kind of start over and fresh I want to do it right this time and I want the best relaxer. I guess so far I have heard the best results from ORS but I was wanting to stay away from a no-lye since all of them have made my hair really dry after about two week from using it.:ohwell:

What problems did you have with the relaxer? Did it dry your hair out also? Do you think that perhaps the conditioning products that come with the package were lacking? Or do you think the relaxer itself caused damage? It seems that ORS has excellent supporting conditioners in the kit with the Replenishing pack and the Aloe shampoo.... I wonder if that makes the difference.

Thanks for listening to my questions I think I'm on relaxer research overload!! I have a couple of fellow sisters in the same boat so I hope my questions help them as well as me! You guys are all so awesome, thank you :-)

I've tried this relaxer. It was no better/worse that any other 'box' relaxer out there (to me), and I've tried all but the ORS- I may try that next (Phyto is getting to be expensive!).

One thing we have to keep in mind, when we use the 'box' 'laxers, they are calcium- they are reportedly worse than sodium 'laxers (supposedly only done by 'professionals' only).

I love most of the maintenance products in that line, but the perm was ok.

The best box I have used is Africa's Best. They have a deep conditioner that comes in the box that is awesome!

I say use it, but pre-oil before you relax and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Thanks so much, what type of oil do you pre-oil with?

I used this relaxer for about a year. The first couple of times it worked great - but the last time I used it... My hair was underprocessed, hard, brittle, and SUPER dry.
I switched to ORS relaxer and like it much better.

Do you do anything special to combat the calcium build up associated with No-Lye relaxers? I heard Chelating shampoos are good for this...

No, I've never had to... for some reason my hair loves no-lye relaxers and thrives with it. I've been relaxed for about 13 years and have always used no-lye. If I used lye my hair would fall out.

I think I just proved that my hair likes them too. I just did an African Pride No-lye, and it feels like butta, soft and shinny!!! See my avatar? I was in a fro before that... I know it will stay straight too. My roots, everything straight.. Not a burn.

The thing is though I used my own conditioners. I oiled my hair before and then I used Duo Tex before I neutraziled, then I used a protein deep conditoner and then their leave in. That was the trick!!

:-)

I will be reporting my increasing inches soon!! :-)

How long did you leave in the conditioner before you neutralized? And I'm like you, on the hunt for a great relaxer! I'm leaning towards SE, but so many people said it left them underprocessed.

Girl, I sorry but SE didn't do it for me. I left the Duo Tex in for 5 mins like they suggest on the bottle. Before that I rinsed for like 10 minutes! LOL
then I used Optimum neturalizer poo, left it in for a few minutes before each rinse, then I did the deep protein condish! man oh man that did the trick!

And my HENNA DID NOT FADE!!!!!!!

I'm in hair heaven now! - I popped my UPA clip on and had brothas breaking they necks in the store looking at me! hahah

Hee hee, I'm gonna rock one of my falls for the first time at work tomorrow. I hope to have the same neck-breaking effects, LOL.

BTW, I am totally trying that "condition-before-neutralizing" trick next time I relax. No matter what relaxer I choose.

I recomend a Ph lowering protein based condish...like Duo Text or Porosity Control by Roux,

This stuff is the BOMB too! Should be in every relaxed womans cabinet!
