I went two weeks without a wash and wore my hair in a sloppy bun (very loose) on top of my head. The only product I used to moisturize daily was Optimum Care's Anti-Breakage Therapy Lotion (it's in a red container). I didn't comb my hair either, just did a little finger-through and kept it in the sloppy bun. Anywho..my hair shed like NOBODY'S business before the wash, during, and after..My hair never shed this much before. I don't know if there is a biological reason (as in a certain time my hair should shed or what) or if it was the actual product. I wish I took pics of it all, but it was significantly thick long hairs coming out. I won't be using that lotion anymore.

I didn't expect much hair to be left on my head, However, it doesn't seem to be much thinner. Which also baffles me about shedding. I'd expect some type of difference immediately, or maybe I just haven't noticed yet. But does anyone else shed alot and still maintain thickness?

I'm also contemplating purchasing the Ovation package but I'm deathly afraid of the shedding, when the product claims to thicken. I can't see how shedding and thickness can happen simultaneously.

You must remember that hair sheds daily, at least 50-100 a day. Since you didn't wash your hair or comb it for 2 weeks, what came out was the hair that was suppose to shed..that you never removed because you didn't comb it.

I use both Ovation and MT and although I had shedding in the beginning, I never lost "my hair", actually my hair got thicker...sounds weird I know, but that's what happened. My hair still is getting thicker and thicker using it. I don't have the shedding I had in the beginning..just the usual, everyday shedding that I'm supposed to have.

Hope that helps.

Shedding is the loss of a single strand. Thickening is the increase in thickness of a single strand. You can lose strands, while the other strands get thicker, and you'll still end up with an overall thickness increase.

Is this the first time you've gone two weeks without washing your hair? Assuming that you lose the mid range of average (75 hairs a day) of natural shedding, over two weeks that would be over a thousand hairs - and that's natural, normal, healthy shedding, that always happens.

The fact that they were all long hairs makes sense (and is a good thing) because that means they were more than likely all shed hairs, rather than broken ones.

A shed hair just means that a brand new hair is about to grow, and that particular strand most likely hasn't been growing for about a month, either.

Yes it helps! I don't know why I keep forgetting about the daily shedding. Though even when I comb my hair to wrap it daily it doesn't seem like 100 hairs come out that's why I was so aghast at the amount. But yes it makes much sense and I'm excited to try the Ovation, thanks for the info on that.

Oh ok..I didn't realize thickening was of the actual strand. This is the first time I've gone 2 weeks in a long time but really the first time I've not combed and wrapped it daily so both of those together, I can see now. Thanks ladies, you've made me feel alot better, I was seriously near panic-mode.

I'm glad that you feel better. You are quite welcome!

Blessings.

 No problem - I have to remind myself of that sometimes when I end up with a HUGE wad of hair. ;)

And of course, the longer your hair is, the more hair you look like you are losing - and you have some lovely long hair!
