Pro Cheerleading & Christianity

I would like some honest feedback with scripture please. Because the search bar is disabled I was not able to see if it has been discussed before.

Anyways, do you think that Pro Cheerleading (NFL/NBA) is not Christ-like?

I had some personal convictions about not being apart of these types of organizations because of outfits, dance moves (gyration), calendar shoots in swimsuits that cause stumbling blocks for many men (and women perhaps), and desiring glory from others (like John the Baptist said, "He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30).

However, I know everyone doesn't feel that way and there are some who are professing Christian. If you are a Christian and dance, how do you deal with the fine line of performance and your walk?

Something about the attached pic just doesn't sit well with me as far as outfit, and it's one of the reason why I cannot do it.

I think the biggest issue would be with the swimsuit calendars, lol. Plus when your in the big leagues, you go on tour and meet "fans" of your swimsuit calendar and trading cards. Fans who love watching you gyrate in skimpy outfits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeKEzcU8DaY&feature=related *shudders* I know this because my Uncle loved the Dallas Cheerleaders and they was always questionable looking stuff lying around. If I didn't know it was a professional NFL team, I would've thought it was some Banana Boat girls.

Hey.

I used to be a semi-pro cheerleader and am personally convicted against it. We used to wear outfits just like the one you posted revealing a lot of legs and our stomach. Granted we never did "club" dance moves, but we did gyrations, gestures, etc. that were still spiritually inappropriate and to heavily secular music. There was no glory being given to God in my semi-pro cheerleading experience. The "glory" was about ourselves - looking good and (most times) sexy to crowd/fans, dancing for the crowd/fans, etc. Additionally, depending on the team, you may interact with cheerleaders who just spiritually wayward, for lack of a better word (e.g., fraternizing/sleeping with members of the football team). There were a lot of respectable women on my team but there were a few spiritually wayward ones, and I sometimes had to sit through their stories. :barf:

Ultimately, it is your decision, but I just don't see it bringing glory to God. Here are some Scripture to consider as you ponder:

1 Corinthians 10
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33 even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

:yep: I agree with this whole post. Trust me Loo, I don't want to do it at all as I am convicted against it as well for the reasons highlighted in red. I just thougtht it was interesting to hear feedback.

s/n: I have a background in competition cheer (more on the athletic side/tumbling, stunts, etc.) and I just grew out of it.

Yes! That just doesn't sit well with me.
