Prepooing...Why?

I started doing it about 4 months ago with coconut and olive oils. I put it on the night before I wash and cover with a plastic cap. It makes my hair more manageable during washing and makes detangling easier. I also do that before my retouches. My hair just feels thicker after. It's addictive once you start doing it and it's dead easy.

I read somewhere that applying coconut oil before shampooing helps to reduce protein loss from the hair caused by shampooing and combing and also that it reduces damage to the hair cuticle.

I noticed that my hair is smoother after shampooing if I have done a pre-poo. I usually use some type of oil and leave it in overnight. Every once in a while, I will use a conditioner and leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour before I shampoo.

I prepoo b/c it conditions my hair....and it prevents stripping while shampooing

What she said. Prepooing makes a world of difference for me. Some find it unnecessary, stupid, etc. but if you have a problem with dryness and tangling, it helps.

I prepoo for the moisture factor. My hair tends towards dryness and it makes a huge difference for me.

I use different things/how long I prepoo for depending on how my hair is feeling all week and on wash day.

never knew what prepooing was, but now that i know i will give it a try....so let me get this right....the process is putting oil in the hair overnight or for some time before washing or using a conditioner before washing right.....i

how often should i do this....should it be everytime i wash, Thank you guys for all the info....it helps......I have learned so much and just joined the forum about 2 days ago....

yeah, it's basically an extra deep conditioner. Since I started doing this my hair has never felt stripped after a shampoo the way it used to.

I've just started doing this too and it's great but should I do it before I do a clarifying wash? I'm confused because since the clarifying wash suppose to cleanse your hair of product buildup wouldn't it be pointless or would it make sure you don't over clean your hair?

I personally never pre-poo before a clarifying wash, like you said "What's the point" can any experts chime in on this.:look:
