Hey Ladies

I'm sitting here counting out quarters for a bottle of Humecto  . I was wondering if anyone else has issues with lack of cash flow and buying better quality products? One of my biggest inspirations for self-relaxing was saving that 80 bucks every 10-12 weeks.

Anyone else feeling me?

That's one of my problems. I am THISCLOSE to paying off my debt, and I've been on a muscle butt tight budget for months now. I choose products carefully and use them sparingly. I don't get my hair done anymore, and when I go get my hair cut to get rid of the split ends, I'll probably go to a beauty school or hair cuttery.

At the same time, even when I wasn't on a budget, I didn't buy high end products like that

Im really feeling you on this one. I wanna try the Aveda line so bad, but just cant afford it.:perplexed

Maybe I am just cheap, because I can afford it and I still would not spend that kind of cash for those little bottles. I need new floors in my house, more money in the bank gaining interest and a kid that will be going to college in about 6 years, trips I want to go on...and a bunch of other stuff I need to do with my $$.

I went into the Aveda store and busted a U as soon as I saw those price tags on those small bottles!

Can afford it, but wont spend the money on that. I buy large tubs of cheap conditioners so i can waste them and still have it to last for atleast 3 months. I wear a wig and if i have sew it up, wash it recurl it, do whatever, i am determined to get atleast 3 months out of the 90 dollars. with hair i just cant waste the money. my conditioners cost 2 and 3 bucks. I tell myself that if they changed the price tag on a 2 dollar product to be 200, somehow i would be convinced that the same product has more value. glycerine used to cost me 3 dollars. i bought one large jar of olive oil for 6 and forgot about glycerine. the jar is 7 times the size of the glycerine. This is just to encourage even though i rambled a bit. a pricier product wont guarantee good hair.

lol

I use my more expensive products less often. I add EVOO to my other conditioner so it gets an extra bang.

LOL @ the topic. Hey we all have hard times. I agree with HoneyDew on not spending that kind of cash for some of these products. The most expensive thing I buy is Nexxus products but Nexx is my 1st love so I cant let it go just yet (my hurr loves it!). Some suggestions are to try generic brands at Sally's. Or maybe even do daily CW's (suave milk n honey about $1.00) as an alternative to DCing very often.

Yeah those aveda prices are crazy. ($18 for a 4.2 oz bottle). I am not on a budget or anything, but I refuse to buy those at that price. I don't even need it that much too. i guess I will have to improvise.

I feel you on this one. as a poor college student i gotta watch my dollars very closely. I tried to give up Nexxus but i couldn't. It works wonders on my hair. so i decided to only get the Nexxus Humectress and Keraphix and scrimp on everything else. i get the Therappe shampoo when i have extra cash.

LOL, perfect time for this one!! I've been joking with folks all week about my hair habit. Surely my current job is not enough to support my KeraCare habit!! Buuuuutttt, I find buying larger quantities (i.e. Humecto in the tub, 32 oz setting, 16 oz leave-ins, etc) last a long time and don't add up to be that bad. I also endulge in KeraCare b/c: 1) I don't go to the hairdresser like most, so that's an expense deducted 2) I KNOW that's what works. 3) I've been selling on eBay to support my habit! I've sold enough for my new dryer and the entire KeraCare line :) !!

If I wanted to settle for Motions, I probably could... But while I'm blessed enough to get the best, well :look: ...

Now maybe I should stop posting on here while at work to continue my blessings... But Lord knows it's whooping my butt working third shift:perplexed !!

I have a $35 per month cosmetic budget and I cannot go over it for any reason at all. This $35 has to cover everything, from salon visits, to products for hair, nails, and skin.

I guess Im just frugal too. I hate to purchase any product, high end or not and end up hating it. I try to get samples if I'm really interested in trying something, otherwise I just stick to what I know until there is a sale.

I was just thinking about this....

Does high price always equal quality? I spent about $35 bucks last week on Scurl, 2 Profective products, leave-in and some conditioners. I am gonna make those bad boys last @ least a month. I just got my hair braided and that was $60 bucks so all together I spent 95 bucks. That's enough for me......@ least for the next six weeks. I would love to try Keracare and Aveda, but it's not in the budget right now.

I found my staples with the Giovanni line (and jojoba oil/red palm oil/bjco) The Giovanni is about $8 a bottle (16oz)... not too bad since I now know what I like and no longer wasting money on pjism

What Giovanni products do you use? I only have the Giovanni Direct Leave-In, but I love it and might try their other products.

I can afford it but I still don't use those expensive products. The most expensive product I use is my Joico reconstructor. Other than that, my products are drugstore brands.
I've tried expensive products before and didn't see any difference in the way my hair felt, looked or grew.

I'm a poor student so I have to basically scrimp on everything. I would love to try some stuff from Aveda or KeraCare, but I barely have a budget for some of the stuff from the drugstore (hello, ORS). I'm glad I've found some staples in the $3-5 range because if I only used expensive products, I'd have to be bald.

I love the bolded part! And it true that buying the bigger sizes is worth it if you are consistent in using that product.

I can afford it but I am very picky about what my money is spent on....:ohwell:

My latest "splurge" was the Qhemet products....how my hair reacts will determine whether I remain a at home "mixologist" or whether I will continue with that line of products for my hair on a long term basis. ;)

I don't have the budget for the big time stuff either, although I have splurged on some stuff in the past. The only salon products that I would repurchase are my AG Recoil and ABBA Nourishing. I would probably also purchase a good anti-humectant next summer. Everything else I buy at the BSS or drug store.

This is a good idea. I have never set a limit or tracked what I spend on beauty products. I am going to set my budget at $20 a month, because I won't be visiting the salon for a while. As they say, common sense is not always so common. Thanks, Anky, for helping me in the common sense department.

I refuse to spend a lot of money on hair products any more. I had to go to PJ rehab. My hair has finally gotten to a point where it looks very thick and healthy (pics coming soon) and it's grown a lot over the past few months. I think that what helped the most has been wearing protective styles. I occassionaly use Mizani Moisturefuse and I did buy their night time treatment wich seemed to help with breakage but I feel that I could have had just as much success without them. I was spending a lot on products but I've learned that the way you treat your hair is much more important than what goes in it.

I spend more on products but that is what actually helped tame my pjism. I bought the whole Aveda DR set in the summer and rotate it with my other products (giovanni, elucence). I just replaced the reconstructor. I know I have a bunch of cheaper products in the closet that are collect dust because they don't work.

ITA. Spending $10-$15 on 8oz bottles isn't very economical. I try to save money, and space, by buying gallon, half gallon, and liter sizes. I don't buy anything smaller than a liter, except for the occasional leave-in, oil, or treatment. Consistency is key.

I agree. I have liters of my shampoos and conditoners and it saves so much more money, time and space.

The K-pak? I just started using that and I LOVE it. I actually got a deal on that, too - Beauty First was having a buy one item and get one 1/2 off. If I go there on the 1st Tuedays I can get 20% off of it. And the liter size is lasting such a long time.
