No your hair is not overly porous or hardly at all. Your hair is able to retain moisture because your cuticles are not raised. Think of 2 sponges, 1 with holes and 1 without and then pour water on each sponge. The sponge with the holes(porous) would dry faster than the one without because it is unable to hold moisture as long due to the holes (or raised cuticles).

Those of you who it takes a long time for your hair to dry. Is it dripping wet when you are wrapping, rollersetting or doing whatever to it? Or have you almost completely towel dryed it?

Signs of porous hair:
  • Gets sopping wet easily
  • Dries very quickly (I always couldn't understand how when people asked what to do to make their hair dry quickly - I would just wrap a towel around mine for 2 mins, and it was dry)
  • looks dull and trashy and is brittle when dry
  • tangles easily

Glad all of these porosity threads are popping up. I really believe that my hair is "partially" porous. The reason I say partially is because the very top dries really, really fast and looks dry after airdrying but the back will be damp for a much longer time and has swing and movement.

Can this Roux Porosity Control Shampoo/Conditioner be bought online? If so, can someone provide the link. I'm trying to google it but nothing is popping up:perplexed

Porosity Rocks:D
I'm natural and my hair is always a bit frizzy in the summer months, but after a treatment this weekend- my hair is noticebly smoother thus FRIZZ-FREE, ladies!

Oh yes, I combined with a protein treatment(Elasta QP B4 and After)...And no Hard Hair

OT: You're hair is absolutely gorgeous!

Great thread! I was thinkingm my hair might be overly porous because it tangles and almost no conditioner works for it. Now I'm thinking I may have the opposite problem. My hair doesn't have most of the symptoms for porous hair except tangles. My hair doesn't dry particularly fast, when I took a strand and put it in water, it floated. My hair actually has symptoms that firecracker listed for hair with a too low Ph/closed cuticle; "hair with low porosity is harder to process and resistent to hair color and perms" (maybe that's why Sebastian's colorshines don't work for me and why most conditioners don't work for me).

1SpecialK, thank you so very much for the clarity on this issue. This analogy cleared up the confusion for me. Now I know that right now, I have overly-pourous hair. Sometimes, I do not, but for months, I have had this problem and could not figure it out. I always used to see Roux's products, especially the Porostiy Control line, but I hadn't a clue what it was for. I bought some earlier today and will use it after my first henna. I love learning new things, esp about my hair. Thanks again for the education mami..!

When I was relaxed, my hair loved some Roux porosity control  haven't used it since I've been natural, do any naturals use porosity control? or is it not needed on natural hair?

I love this stuff!

I'm natural and I just used it and my hair is tangle free.

I just put my head under running water in the sink to add a little moisture and to loosen up my hair and then I put the porosity control on my hair and worked it through for about a minute or two.

Now I know why my hair had so many tangles and it seemed like my products weren't working. But it makes sense. After you wash your face you use a toner to restore the ph balance and it would seem like a natural step when you wash or condition your hair.

I'm going to use this as a final rinse when I do my weekly deep conditions for the next 4 weeks to see what happens.

I love being natural, but I don't like loosing all the hair I've be loosing lately because of tangles.

Any other naturals use this weekly?
