:yep: I LOVE Porosity Control. I use it after I deep condition to prevent my hair from becoming too mushy since I dc weekly. It's amazing.

You can buy PC at Sally's. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else!

Do you leave in on for a while, with or without heat OR do you just use it as a quick final rinse after the DC?

By the way, I LOVE your siggy pic. ;) :lick:

What did you have on your hair with the Caruso curlers, did you use end papers, and how long did you steam the rollers. I have had nothing but great results with the steamer. I am so sorry that you had this experience :( .

BTW, could you please explain porosity control (what is it and what does it do). I see it frequently.

Do you know what? I've had these rollers for years, and my hair always loved it.
I don't know why the thing acted up with my hair this time...

I've been natural for 3 years, so I didn't use it very much at all, unless i had a weave it...

and now that my hair is texturized, i thought that i'd be able to put a nice curl in my hair.
It didn't work..
but as the week progressed, i notice that my hair, which was normally nice and soft, was all rough, and stayed that way no matter if i deep conditioned it or not.

Latia explains what porosity is on page 2,

and the conditioner 'porosity control' rebalances the Ph level in your hair adjusting its porosity...

No your hair is not overly porous or hardly at all. Your hair is able to retain moisture because your cuticles are not raised. Think of 2 sponges, 1 with holes and 1 without and then pour water on each sponge. The sponge with the holes(porous) would dry faster than the one without because it is unable to hold moisture as long due to the holes (or raised cuticles).

Right on point. :D

Well I like to leave it in, even though the bottle says to leave it on for only 30 sec-1 min. I'll usually leave it on for up to 15 minutes.

Oh, why you be lookin' at mah man, guhl! I will cut you!

I think if you use it consistently each time you have a chemical service - a few days before and a few days after, I think you will find that your hair will bounce back without using it every day. Or try diluting it and not using it full strength if you use it every day.

GodMadeMePretty, this is totally off topic but your baby is adorable...awe...I want a little chubby one too.

So you don't use heat?

That was my man first by the way!! I had his pic in my siggy b/c he loved me first!! :lol:But I realized I was getting a little too obsessed so I took him out. But he still comes home to ME & I still love me some wentworth! :lick:

I tried the Porosity Control conditioner over the weekend and my hair felt 10 times better. My hair felt really soft and not rough. I was also able to detangle with less hassle and breakage. I applied it to my hair along with a protein and moisturing conditioner and also a deep conditioner. Covered with a plastic cap and went under my hooded dryer for 20 minutes. Then rinsed really well. This is definately a keeper!!

May I ask how long before a relax do most ladies here use porosity control?

Also, what other procedures (other than relaxing) do you use porosity control before?

Ditto. I'm 11 weeks, 1 day post relaxer (the longest I've EVER stretched without braids :D) and I have an appointment on Friday for a retouch. Is it too close to T/U time if I use the product today?

Also, does Sally's also carry the shampoo in the trial size? My hair is EXTREMELY porous (which has been confirmed by my hair dresser) so I am very anxious to try this out.

Oooo, i don't know about relaxing, I texturize infrequently.
I do know on the bottle is says that it is safe for anytime you are about to do a color or chemical process. meaning do it before you relax/color.

so i'd say it couldn't hurt to do a porosity control the day before you relax.

I don't know if there's a small bottle of porosity control, i know over here, the big bottle cost me 18 dollars, i probably could've gotten it for cheaper, but i was desperate, and went to the first place i found it.

I do know that sally's carries the full size bottle. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Edited to add, i just read some back posts, and cincy said she found small bottles at sally's for 1.89

Interesting...I think I may have to check this out. I dont' know how porous my hair is or not. I hope it's not TOO porous! What are the signs??

I know in some hair books that they say you can do what they call a "strand test" to test how "porous" your hair is.

They say all you have to do is:
-fill up a cup or a glass with a lot of water (a clear glass is even better)
-pick out a strand of your hair (preferably starting from the root) and drop it in the glass of water
-They say that if you hair floats, then your hair has pretty good porosity. BUT, if your hair sinks almost immediately when you put your strand in the water, then your hair is REALLY porous (ie. soaking up a LOT of water like a sponge). That's not a good thing.

I guess that's why if your hair takes a LONG time to dry, it's a good thing because your hair isn't soaking up the moisture so fast.

Now granted, this "test" isn't all that scientific, and I wouldn't stress about it if your hair strand "sinks" in the water, but it will give you an idea as to the porosity of your hair. ;)
I hope this helps...

Well, I got my answer.

What ended up being 3-4 days before my realxer, I used the PC shampoo and correcter. As soon as I rinsed the correcter/Phyto conditioner combo out of my hair, I noticed my hair wasn't nearly as sponge-like right away! Yaaay! Then, the day I relaxed with my Phyto Index II followed by my Phyto reconstructer, shampoo, and then conditioner (mixed with Nexxus Hemctress) I was in love with the results!

I'm home for the holidays with my family right now, but trust me...when I get back to Georgia on Saturday, I'll be using the PC again!

Thanks, ladies!!!! :D

Maybe I'll try using Salerm wheat germ oil mask and then porosity control after I use the milky reconstructor post-relaxer. because right now all i get from the milky stuff is horribly tangled hair.

I'm bumping up this old thread...

I just picked up some porosity control and I would like to use it today. I am gonna be washing with my keracare shampoo and Humecto. How would you all suggest that I used it? Mixed with the humecto or after the humecto?

I also brought Roux Mendex, so if anyone knows something about that, hook me up with some usage suggestions.

Gracias!

I've actually tried it both ways. I think both ways produced equal results with my hair.

Porosity Rocks:D
I'm natural and my hair is always a bit frizzy in the summer months, but after a treatment this weekend- my hair is noticebly smoother thus FRIZZ-FREE, ladies!

Oh yes, I combined with a protein treatment(Elasta QP B4 and After)...And no Hard Hair

Thanks for the porosity control info. I'll keep that in mind. And oh yeah so this is totally OT but curlyj I absolutely LOVE your hair. What type of color do you use?

bmoreflyygirl, thanx!

BE Careful with the color- I have since gone much darker!
Its Feria- Downtown Brown(from the highlift brown collection)BASE CLR
On top of that(DAMAGE) Loreal High lighting kit in the lightest color. I would suggest going with the darker high lighting kit.

and now that I know what I know about coloring hair...Use Porosity Control B4 and after...I would also suggest doing a treatment with Metalax(Clairol) and b4 and after by Elasta QP...

You're welcome. :) Thanks. I'll check those brands out when I'm ready. I'm still undecided on a color. But I know I want to color after I cut. Did you have any problems with the color loosening your curl pattern?

there are different brands?
I used 'porosity control' by Roux.

and Thanks Gmmp, i will try diluting it if I use it more often...

Does anyone know if steam affects the acidity of hair making it hard to manage?

I wonder why my hair acted up like that...

Oh yea, the rinse I did, there was no ammonia or peroxide in it... I guess rinses just tangles hair real good.....

Did you use the shampoo or conditioner or both for the Roux Porosity Control?

I just bought a sample of this today, does it have to be used after or before a chemical service. Does it have any other benefits?

Some ladies add a little to there normal DC, I would try it that way first and as a final rinse as stated on the bottle.
