Ponytail Rinse - Clean Hair, No Detangling

I can't remember if I posted this before and geez, I can never get that search engine to work anymore so forgive me if this a repost.

I've finally perfected a method to clean my hair without going through the trouble of lots of manipulation and detangling. I usually do these in the morning but they can be done anytime. Here's what I do.

1. The night before, I make the length of my hair damp with a moisturizing spray. Then, I braid it, tie the end with an outchless band, and put some kind of oil on the ends. I then clip it to my head, put on my scarf and go to sleep.

2. The next morning, I take a bottle of V05 (Strawberries n' Cream or Creamy Fresh Peaches) and slather it over my head and the ponytail.

3. I brush my teeth and everything else before I get in the shower. Once in the shower, I wash my body and let the conditioner sit on my hair with it clipped on my head so it doesn't get rinsed out.

4. Once I'm done washing my body, I take my hair out of the clip but leave it braided. I lightly massage the conditioner into my scalp and apply more as necessary. Then, I thoroughly rinse it out.

5. I apply more conditioner and then LIGHTLY rinse it out. The key is LIGHTLY. You want to leave some of it in!

6. Get out of the shower and then spray all over with leave-in. You won't need as much as you might normally b/c you left some of the conditioner in already.

7. Take down the braid carefully and comb through with a WIDE tooth comb. It shouldn't take any effort.

8. Then what I do is start parting my hair from front to back and apply my healthy hair butter. Doesn't have to be perfect.

9. I spray more leave in, then smooth into a ponytail to form my bun.

10. Then, I apply my gel/pomade mixture and put on my scarf.

11. Finish getting ready and then take scarf off. Apply a shine enhancer and you're good to go!

I have done this routine in the morning before work and literally only add an additional 5-10 minutes to my schedule! And I always get the shiniest and prettiest bun when I do this! I plan on doing this a couple of times a week in the summer! Since there's not a lot of manipulation, there's minimal hair loss. Definitely a way to daily "wash" without too much manipulation! Also, I like the V05 conditioners b/c they are light and easy to rinse. This may not work well with thick conditioners.

Hope this is helpful to some of you!

Thanks for the tips hairlove! Just this morning I was wondering if anyone had ever tried rinsing t

here hair in a ponytail. I'll definitely try your method.

Great tip. The only problem I ever really have with daily CO washes is the detangling, which inevitably leads to lost hair (I'm natural). Hopefully this will help. Thx!

I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks.

Hairlove,

I've done a version of this before. Instead of braiding my ponytail, I coiled it around to form a bun. It does work great.

Allandra,

I was going to suggest that people give it a try in a bun, also! Thanks for verifying that it works that way, too!

@Allandra - do mind sharing exactly how you accomplished washing with this method? I can quite get a visual or understanding. TIA!
divachyk OMG. This is from seven years ago. I don't do it any more, and I don't even remember how long I did this. IIRC, I'd pretty much would rinse my hair while it was in a bun to avoid tangling hair. It worked back then (since I did rave about it in this thread). This is when I was relaxed, I've been natural for a nice while now. HTH.
