So i been relaxed..been natural..been relaxed..had a accident and became natural again and i have to honestly say i really don't like either one. My relaxed hair was too thin and my natural hair had so many knots no matter what i did (detangling often or keepin it in plaits at night) not to mention shrinkage was a bxtch and the only easy style could do was put it up in a clip. I always thought about dreads/sisterlocks i don't think their for me right now though i rather have them when I'm middle aged and i don't feel like doing my hair anymore lol. I'm just confused..any advice?

I totally understand your problem. I loved my natural hair but hated all the knots. About 5 months ago, I decided to texlax . I was scared to go too far with the relaxer so my hair is almost the way it was 100% natural. Even though I only texlaxed a tiny bit, my hair was less tangled. I think texlaxing is great because, it gives you the best of both worlds. Good luck with your decision! :yep:

Texlaxing or Texturizing would seem like a happy medium for you. But, you need to listen to your hair and prioritize its needs. What is more important-- knot free hair or having hair that is chemically unaltered? Once you make a list of the most important things your hair needs, you should be able to decide between keeping it natural or texturizing.

Same here. My natural hair was just too much and tooo thick but being bone straight had my hair looking super thin. I now texlax with mild relaxer for 2 minutes a sections and then wash it out. There's BARELY difference, except it's more managable, not quite as bulky, doesnt shrink AS MUCH, and is easier to straighten , plus doesn't frizz up as much once straight. And since it's still so curly, I only texlax every 8 months and you really can't even tell.

give it some deep thought. Consider what beans asked about what's more important. If you're dead set on no chemicals, then try to stick it out a little longer. Some do regret it texlaxing, but some don't. I definately didn't. I've never been happier with my hair.

I self relax but it looks like texlax cause its not bone straight. I leave the relaxer in for 15 min everytime and I think the protein products I use on a regular basis brings texture back to my hair.

That's me too. I like my natural hair but it's far too much maintenance just to look *decent* now that it's past TWA stage. In my experience, it's been that natural hair is easy when it's NL and shorter; relaxed hair is easier when it's SL+. And the knots are constantly causing breakage. I'm also scared to texlax myself. I am currently straightening until I figure out what to do. I am giving myself til the end of the year to make a final decsion on whether I should relax or loc; right now I am leaning towards relaxing.

i know what u mean i was too lazy for twist and i have to pile gel on my hair to get it back in a clip for school lol i been relaxed and natural now i feel like i should try texlaxing and if that fails dreads/sister locks here i come! this might sound weird but when i relaxed the second time i missed the character that my hair had when it was kinky lol.

wow Patricia im surprised it doesn't get bone staight in 15 min. do you add oil or something 2 it?
Me too! I thought it would get straight but I do the protein step before neutralizing. And I use protein every week to keep my relaxed hair strong. I don't add any oils to the relaxer. I don't use heat unless it is a heating cap for a DC. My results it a looser texture that I'm very happy with. I can wear my hair airdried everyday and still look stylish. I'm working on thickness but I can say I'm satified with my hair and the condition of it at this point.

Texlaxing would work for you. I'm texlaxed and sometimes I still get knots. I'm able to wear my hair curly and straight. I love being texlaxed. There's very little difference in my texlaxed hair and my natural hair.

Good for you, Shan! :yep: Not doing anything drastic and waiting is a good idea.

You have beautiful hair!
