I just comb through before i shower, try not to rough it up any. Then comb through the conditioner. Then I comb while rinsing.

I detangle with my fingers when I'm in the shower, and then I detangle with a comb while styling to get rid of the snarls and to evenly distribute my leave-in and sealant.

Now that my hair is getting longer I've really had to revamp my routine. Now, I detangle while the coonditioner is in. It is sooo much easier for me that way.

I voted for both: my hair is detangled before I get in the shower and then I detangle after I get out. My strands are way too fine to detangle while in the shower; I'd lose too much hair.

My 4b relaxed hair is too fine to detangle soaking wet. It just rips. This has happened in my shower at home and at the salon wash bowl.

I comb through it before showering and detangle afterward when the hair is just damp (~80% dry). Easy does it.

It sounds like you may be overdue for a protein treatment.

I detangle my hair after I get out of the shower usually, and sometimes with conditioner before I rinse.

O/T- I just discovered Suave For Kids Awesome Apple Detangler Spray Conditioner after I saw it on sale at Target for 99 cents. it allowed me to detangle with ease with 9 weeks worth of new growth with hardly any hair on the comb, and my hair is fine so it tangles very easily. I bought two bottles but I will be going back to buy about five more.

Yeah, I get the Target knockoff detangler spray for my kids (they get some serious snarls, tangles and matting) and it just melts all that away with the quickness. It's only $1 but it's worth its weight in gold.

I used to detangle in the shower with my hair full of conditioner. But, I found that was taking entirely too long--and the hot water was running out . Now, I put in conditioner and detangle after showering. I lean over the side of the bathtub to rinse the conditioner out.

I would be in the shower all day and night if I tried to detangle in the shower. When I have tried to do it, I found myself rushing to keep from wasting too much water, with more breakage as the result.

What I do is sit down after I get out of the shower, get dried off and dressed, and then take my time detangling section by section, while applying my leave-in as thoroughly as possible, before braiding it back up. It works for me.

i detangle during pre-poo. I apply my oil either Olive or Vatika do my hot oil treatment and then detangle. This has reduced the level of breakage considerably. I used to detangle in the shower with the comb and conditioner but my curls would separate and I would get snags, snarls and eehhs.

After decades of fruitless detangling, I recently discovered (thanks to a Sista on this forum) the most effective detangling method I have ever encountered - detangling after applying Fermodyl and another creamy leave-in. Smoothest, easiest detangling ever.

I hadn't detangled my natural hair in over a month nor have I washed and DC'ed. I can't imagine sticking a comb through that. My hair was dry like straw and kinky .

After I removed as much shedded hair as I could with my fingers, I sectioned my hair in several small sections, spritzed water on each section and saturated with coconut oil. I then sat under the dryer to make sure it stayed melted (not white and hard which it gets very quickly in this cold). In the shower, I rinsed the oil off while detangling with a medium toothed comb. This is THE best way for me to detangle. It was very easy and painless. The only problem is that I run out of water every time because after detangling each section, I re-twist (approx. 10 braids on each side of my head)

Deep conditioners just don't give me the slip I need to get the job done so I gave up on trying to find one that does AND I'm trying to cut down on cones. Where's my V05?

Detangling before I wash and apply the DC makes the tangles more manageable and of course the oil helps with slip. I like spreading the DC on my hair when the section is detangled. It makes the process much more enjoyable and ssssssmoooooth

So oils it is for me! I reallly shouldn't even bother washing my hair if I don't have enough energy to pre-poo with coconut oil.

I depends really how fa into a stretch I am. If its early on I'll detangle before i wash my hair since i was in sections anyway. Later on..you know when u can barely get ur finger through futher more a comb lol, I'll be doing the detangling in the shower

I detangle while I have conditioner in my hair with my Jilbere Shower comb. That was one of the best pieces of advice that I've gotten from the forum. My hair tangles very easily and when I would detangle my wet hair, I would always have hair in my comb, sometimes more than what I wanted to see. But now, I detangle either while the conditioner is in my hair or while I'm standing in the shower rinsing it out. Either way, I end up with maybe 2-3 hairs in my comb and there are no tangles while I'm setting my hair.

Same here! When I wore weaves religiously every 4 weeks I would detangle my hair after I washed it then my stylist advised me to tangle before I washed it for less tangling...then I discovered that the ladies of LHCF detangled their hair when full of conditioner and that works! Even if I protein treat and deep condition after that its still detangled when I get out of the shower...I also learned from LHCF to wash my hair in the shower instead of the sink since Im transitioning...I used to snag my hair on the faucet hose when i washed in the kitchen sink!

Yea me too I detangle after I put my prepoo in and then after I rinse out my final conditioner. I don't wash my hair in the shower though I'd be in there like 3 hours and have a killa water bill

ETA...I detangle in the shower with loads of conditioner in, under running water, from back to front. I lose shed hair the first go-through and basically none the second time.

Last week, it took me about 20 minutes and drove me crazy. Since my hair is starting to grow, I think I should look into new ways to detangle. I do not want a repeat of last week and don't detangle with a comb outside the shower. I use my fingers only when styling....
