to get my air-dried hair to dry shiny!

no matter what leave-in, serum, polish, gloss, oil i use before/during/finish when i air-dry....my hair is dull, dull, dull. that's saying a lot b/c my hair is blue-black and that alone makes it shiny EXCEPT for when i airdry.

help, tia.

I've never had a problem w. shine and airdrying. Have you tried mixing honey w. your conditioners? If not, that should work. :)

hi carlie:

i used honey one time (when i first bought ntm) and i cannot remember if my hair was dull. i'll do an experiment with the honey again.

i never have this problem when i rollerset, blowdry, wrap, etc. i don't even have this problem when i sit under the dryer with a rollerset and let it dry for 15 minutes and the airdry the rest.

uh-oh webby,

i hope that dull hair = airdrying is not just the way the hair turns out.

is your hair black too?
No. Mine is red (colourshines), but I get dull, dull, dull regardless to how much "slick" I put on, when I air-dry :(

I have the same problem

anky, it's so frustrating. you would think that ifyou applied serum, oil, or gloss when it's totally dry that you would have shine but no!

any suggestions would be welcomed ladies!

ladylibra... u hit it right on the nose! I have the same exact problem... especially since I'm transitioning and the relaxed part of my hair is permanently colored blue-black. i try leave-in, glossing polish, and moisturizers... my hair still looks try and dull. It makes me want to cut my relaxed hair off!
I'm thinking about airdrying in rollers once a week. I've been doing the bun challenge but I might give that a break for a while and start drying my hair in rollers. I'm tired of my hair looking a mess!

Is there anyone here that can get shiny hair when airdrying their hair straight down or in a ponytail??

I've learned that 4b hair does not reflect and therefore has no shine on its own. However, if everyone's hair does not shine after airdrying and after applying oils, polish, etc. then it's the airdrying.

I never have a problem with shine when I air dry my hair. Do you think you may have product build up and may need to clarify your hair?

allandra:

i keep buildup at bay by rotating/clarifying (1x month or as needed)

what do you do to get shine when you airdry?

i hope you are incorrect BUT i know that you may be right.

i'm going to try the honey/conditioner mix again and maybe some of the other members who don't have this problem will share.

How about just putting some more oil and/or a moisturizer on it after it's dry?? :::shrugs::: That's what I do, and I'm good after that... I add moisturizer and oil every day. :)

I used to add mucho moisture after and still dullsville.

I think that texture may have something to do with it. My hair is wavvy in some parts, but it's coarse...I think that may be part of my problem, ya know?
