My son is 24 months old and I don't want to cut his hair. For about a year I braided it in small individual braids, but now he's too big and won't sit still. So for the past couple weeks I've had it in a big fro. And now it is soooo dry! It looks like a dang tumbleweed. But it's also just now filling in all over his head evenly and I want to grow it to grow long cuz I love that look on little princes. :)

I just started (yesterday) co washing with a natural, no tear conditioner and wondering what else I can do to keep moisture in his hair without posing a threat to his safety. I need to wash his hair everyday since he loves playing in the sandbox at daycare.

What are some good moisture products for babies that are no tears and natural? I want to stay away from the scary chemicals since he's still so young... he hasn't quite gotten the hang of keeping his eyes closed while shampooing.

Just pasting what I wrote to another member asking about prods. for a toddler. Hth!

My 20 month old has a head full of thick hair. She was born with a ton. It is very challenging because she's not old enough to sit still. I try to do her hair at night while she sleeps and sometimes I'm successful.

Stretched I'd say she has about 10 - 11 inches of hair that shrinks to about 3 or 4. You can imagine the detangling nightmare. Most times I let her rock a fro. I'll spritz it with a moisturizer when I can get her to stand still (or I'll just sneak up on her!) The only time I detangle is when she's in the bathtub. Usually I'll just get in with her, soak her hair and load with with a conditioner (suave or vo5) I then use a wide tooth comb and then finer as it loosens up. I find that the tangles and clumps are not match for the water and conditioner. I wash afterwards with something gentle and natural (I'm using herbnlife royal rinse right now. . .it's mostly black soap and aloe vera.)

I put her hair into a high puff to dry.

The hairline is fragile because their heads are still growing. The edges are always going to be shorter and more fragile until they mature. I don't brush dry or over manipulate. She gets treated like a superstar when rocking her fro anyway. So I let her be the star she is most of the time. I detangle in the bath maybe once a week or biweekly. I might do plaits this week.

I use shea butter and coconut oil on her hair. Daily doctor or a glycerine spritz for moisture. That's about it. I'm not about to expose my baby girl to all sorts of crazy chems. Daily doctor is as unnatural as it gets.

hth,
P1
