Please help I am upset

Hey it you seem like you have about an inch of stringy hair....why dont you just cut it? It doesnt look like youll have to sacrifice much length because I can see where the thickness starts. If you decide to cut, constantly moisturize your freshly cut ends everyday, stay away from heat, and if it works for you try protective styles.

BTW can you post your regimen too?

that may give us more insight.

Hi Kaykay

Keep your head up first of all. It takes a quick second for us to mess up our hair and a lot of TLC to get it back in shape. I'm sure the others ladies will come to the rescue. I don't know ur hair regime but it looks like your ends may have thinned out from breakage.

What are your daily styles? shampoo, relaxer and what type, etc.

Gives us an idea of what you are doing now.

I really don't have a set regimen yet
Well today I got surge, So I will be using that
Profective breakfree
Motions moisture enhancer for moisture
S-curl, (I am putting back in my sew in)
I wash with nexxas therappe and condition with ORS mayonnaise
Paul mitchells leave in thickening conditioner
And I believe that is all

I usually just wear sew ins
I never thought that it could thin out so bad even when I am wearing a sew in.

its looks like breakage to me, it looks like my hair always looked with relaxers. they always had me with breakage, thinning, see through hair that i constantly had to cut

yeah if you arent taking care of your hair underneath you will definitely get breakage. How long did you wear it for. My friend wore hers for three months without moisturizing and her edges and ends broke off.

How often d you plan to wash and deep condition? You sound like you have great products to start off with.

yeah it seems like u just have some breakage. what u should do is set up a hair regime for yourself.

i think the first thing u should do is say away from heat, because if your ends are dry then blowdrying and curling is only making it worst. this may sound crazy but vaseline and water is the best thing for dry ends. i don't have spilt ends, but i always had dry frizzy ends. once i started putting vaseline on my wet ends i noticed a huge difference.
i saved my ends.

Your welcome. We must have been posting at the same type because I didn't see your post until afterwards

I guess I am going to cut it then! I also will be washing my hair every 5 days. I think it will be hard to do anymore with a sew in. I wonder if it is from the blowout I did today because I do not have a perm and all of that is virgin hair.

How do you dry your hair? Do you blow dry each time? If so that too could be adding on to the breakage. I know I experience breakage from sew in weaves way back then. You have to be careful with them especially when you remove it.

Your hair looks similar to mine which was on the thin side when I use to relax bone straight. My hair is thin already so bone straight hair made my hair weaker. From looking at the not so thin part of your hair, it looks like your hair has great potential to be nice and thick.

What type of relaxer are you using? Are you self relaxing or going to the salon?

Question: If your hair is thin-that automatically means its breaking? I have thin hair from root to tip..always have been that way, though at times its thinner like when I remove my braids and such but I haven't noticed any breakage or split ends...but like I said I've always had thin hair. I'm going to add B-complex and Pantothenic Acid to my vitamin intake to see if it helps.

No not necessarily. I figured it was breakage by looking at her ends compared to the rest fo her hair. Her ends were transparent while her ponytail got more dense as you went up toward the base

I think cutting off the thin, scraggly ends is a good start. This will keep the hair from splitting up the shaft. (I just cut off about 4-6 inches last Friday) Then determine what products work best for your hair. Stay away blow dryers and braids that are too tight. And you may want to give up your sew-in for a few months.
Good luck and keep us posted!

I usually only keep them in for a month but the last time I kept in for 6 weeks
I also have been letting my hair airdry for the last 3 months (before than they would blowdry it at the shop)
Right now only my bangs are permed everything else is natural, I decided to blowdry it it straight today to see how it wes looking.
Also today is the first time I ever permed the front of my hair myself, I usually go to the salon!

Thin hair doesn't mean breakage. If your hair is always thin then it's always thin. I have thin hair

If you take a progress picture like Kaykay did and you notice the thinness on the ends then chances are something is causing breakage. My ends right now is a bit on the thin side and I know it's from rough handling my ends to rough.

Okay thanks for answering Ayeshia and Miosy...After taking a look at the pictures it does look thinner at the ends..as opposed to your hair overall-Kaykay. I see the difference- I would definitely cut them..and then make sure I keep them moisturized.

yeah give up the sew ins. It seems like it would be hard to give your hair constant moisture because the weave is blocking your natural hair. Maybe you should look more into wigs if you are still interested in weaves. That way you can remove the wig wash your hair anytime and ensures that your hair is getting the proper moisture.

Thank you Ayeshia! I am not sure about wigs though but I am going to see if there is another alternative that I could do!

I agree. I wore sewn in weaves for a while several years ago and found that my hair thinned out greatly. I finally decided to stop wearing them and my hair improved. My mom has a friend whose worn weaves forever, and colors her hair a light blonde and her hair grows. I think not everyone can wear weaves sucessfully. I know I can't.

definitely give the wigs a shot. I recently did the big chop and I was looking for a wig because I didnt have time to do my hair on sum mornings. I found a wig that looks just like a fresh dominican rollerwrap with bangs. It was only 23 bucks and people who didnt know that I did the Big Chop thought it was my hair. wigs are coming a long way and they are definitely cheaper and more versatile than a sew in.

oh BTW the only thing that you have to make sure about wigs is that you wear a silk lining under it. If not you may get traction along your edges and it can break causing a thinning hairline
ohwell.gif
But I havent experienced this because I wear the cap and moisturize my edges daily.

This may be a silly question Kaykay, but have you ever relaxed your hair from root to end? I mean not just the newgrowth but down the shaft of your hair? Did you grow out your perm when wearing weaves and eventually cut it all off?

Thanks Ayeshia if they look really natural I think I am going to go look for some! And see how they look.
Bobby
I had a perm a long time a go all over my head but the parts that didn't break off got trimmed off while it was growing. I did this because the old permed hair was very damaged and I wanted to start all over! But now I just do it to the newgrowth (in my bangs). Also yes I did grow it out using weaves! Thank you all!

You are doing too much with your hair. If I were in your position, I'd quit the relaxing and the weaving for a while. The hair is not responding well to all the manipulation.

I'd use cornrows to grow out the hair for a year along with Surge, MSM, and increased protein consumption. I'd shampoo and deep condition with L'Anza Strait Line to help manage the new growth. I'd strengthen with Aubrey Organics GPB. I'd moisturize with diluted Sta-Sof-Fro.

Cornrows would allow you to go for 1-3 weeks without restyling, and you could wash your hair with the braids in such that it wouldn't tangle. In a year, you'd have a head full of thick new growth.
