I am sick of flatironing my hair and getting the results below :perplexed I use the Maxiglide on 5 then have to go over it with the Sedu on almost the highest heat and this is still the best I get. Can someone help me figure out why this is happening? This is friggin ridiculous...

Anyone else dealing with this? I am at wits end and am starting to wonder if I should texlax

What type of heat protectant an serum are you using?

I usually use Redkin heat glide, but Glamazon and a few others advised that it may be causing the heat to not reach my hair so this time I used Ellin Levar's spray on heat protectant. Still got the same results. I am at a loss and am getting extremely frustrated

Also wanted to mention that I don't use the comb attachment when blowdrying, just the stretch and blowdry method. It took me 3 hours to straighten my hair yesterday and these are the results I ended up with.

You may want to use the comb attachment, but use it with the heat protectant also. That may help eliminate some of the frizziness. I hope that helped some.:perplexed

i think u may have to use the comb attachment and go thru the hair. Whenever i striaghten my hair without blowing it out, like combing thru, the flat iron job comes out like that

Maybe you are right about going back to the comb attachment. Maybe my natural hair isn't cut out for this method of blow drying.

*shrugs* I was trying to avoid the comb attachment to avoide damage but I may just have to go back to it because this isnot working :nono:

maybe the sections you're ironing in are too big. i certainly wouldn't call myself a flat ironing queen, but i noticed that when i do flat iron, my results look better when i use smaller sections. (about half the amount you'd normally put on a tiny yellow roller)

maybe you should try (gently) pulling small sections of your hair taut, and going over them carefully.

i hope that helped a bit :)

No I mean what kind of products are you using before hand?

Are you using any kind of anti frizz treatment? what kind of leave in are you using?

I DO make small sections. This is why it takes so long to flatiron. Thanks for trying to help me not lose my mind :)

I use whatever I have on hand. I usually use the Biotouch Frizz Control Leave in and normally follow it with the Redken smooth down.

I agree that you should try the comb. My hairdresser uses a paddle brush but it's too hard for me to manuever the brush and the blowdryer at home. The comb attachment has worked fine for me. Just make sure your hair is detangled first. The brush and the comb are pulling the hair straight as it's dryinh. If you're using the blowdrier you're just kind of blasting hair randomly.

i love this stuff and disagree with some of the comments that say it's greasy and heavy - maybe they use too much of it or didn't follow the directions :ohwell:

i airdry to about 85-90% dry then use a warm/cool blowdryer and paddle brush to finish it off then i flatiron in small sections. i like to use the steam burst on my ends to get them nice and smooth.

my hair is always silky, shiny, bouncy (ugh, did i really say that?) and humidity resistant. i also use the maxiglide w/pins but on setting 1-1.5. i'll get a little bit of waviness after a couple days but it is not anywhere near frizzy or poofy.

i dunno, it's a pretty cheap product @ around $4 and can be found most anywhere if you want to try it out.

hmmmm... perhaps you could try roller setting first, then flat ironing. Also, try using a flat iron that is ceramic. That helped me get smoother results.

Also, maybe you should try after flat ironing using a little serum.

I hate not being able to multiquote :wallbash:

I will take a look at this. Thanks for the heads up

Glam: I am going to try and use the comb attachment and see what happens

Amber: The rollersetting won't work, at least I can't get it to work. A ceramic iron you say??? Perhaps :scratchch:

theres a roundish one i used to use and u attach it to the end of the nozzle after the hair is like 75% dry. Works like a charm:yep:

I agree with using the comb attachment, I don't think you can get around that. I blowdry mostly on cool, a minute on low and then another minute on HOT. Also, I found that if after blowdrying, I apply my leave ins (including a little oil), put my hair in large twists and leave it alone for about 24 hours before flat-ironing, it comes out a lot straighter. I think that insures all of the moisture is out of my hair.

I thought the MaxiGlide and Sedu were ceramic irons?

I flat iron with a Sedu and a Goody Flat Ironing Comb. I blow dry with Pinkskate's method and then use the comb followed by the flat iron on each section. It's a little tricky because I have to have the comb in one had and the flat iron in the other, but the results are nice. My hair used to get frizzy and puffy before I even finished flat ironing my whole head but I don't have that issue anymore. They have two kinds. I bought mine at Walmart:

So Hot Flat Iron Comb

Ceramic-Ionic Flat Iron Comb

I would invest in some CHI Silk Infusion. It works wonders. I think we have the same kinda hair an the stuff does great for me. Also Silk Elements Glosser or Biosilk are equally effective when I run out of CHI.

I would also consider a straightening comb kind of like how Pink Skates does. I use the electric one though, and I use the flatiron after that.

Just blowdry your hair with a wide tooth comb (I would not use a brush because you would be thinning all that thick hair of yours:nono:) and just detangle the section and use tension to hold it taut and straight while you move the blowdryer. That way your hair will be detangled and straighter than it would if you just used your hands. Use some kind of serum when you blowdry too with a leave-in.

Before each section make sure you detangle with a smaller tooth comb not a rattail comb but probably the smallest you can get without breakage) Then when you straighen with the comb first, you make it so you are not combing the hair but using the back of the comb to straighten and the comb teeth on the tool to keep it on top of the hair if that makes sense. You are basically rotating the comb so the back is touching the hair while you glide it through. If you use the Maxiglide instead of the straightening comb, make sure you detangle each strand first with a smaller tooth comb, and maybe you should use the plate with the teeth on it to keep your hair from tangling or getting pressed crunchy or come out frizzy.

Afer each section of running the comb/maxiglide through, you detangle again with the wide or medium tooth comb (you should not experience breakage) to be sure and then run the flatiron over it. (You may not want to maxiglide or straightening comb all of your hair then flatiron it because it will stick together or get frizzy and fuzzy and crunchy before you get to the flatiron). Put a drop or two of serum on each section before you detangle and then run the flatiron over. I would press the plates together (at least I do when I use the CHI, I don't know what iron you said you used) because it will make the hair get straighter from a little higher heat (the serum should protect your hair and won't block it from getting straight).

When you get done with your hair, immediately get like a dime sized or smaller drop of serum and pull it all through your hair from roots to ends. This should protect it and keep it straight. It may get greasy if you use too much, but after a day or a few hours of wearing it out it will actually get better.:yep:

Thank you thank you thank you ladies!!! so many useful tips. I just rewashed my hair and used the comb attachment. So far so good. The ends aren't nearly as narly. Will keep you posted

I think this is another reason for the mishaps. My hair may not have been completely dry :perplexed

I think some hair really holds onto moisture which really is a good thing. Can't wait to see how your hair turns out the second go round.

When I use that I get puffyness to.
