Hi guys, just letting those who are interested know that I took some pics of my bun attempt best efforts using no scrunchie, band or holder and held with just 2 good day hair pins. I also attempted my second braidout and summoned up the courage to wear it during my youngest son's birthday party. thankfully everyone loved it. I really like it and hope I can get better at it so I can wear them more often. I did rebraid it and took it down this morning to see how it would come out. I love the shrinkage because it lets my back look nice and full and a lot of people were surprised when I showed them just how much shrinkage there was. I'm starting my 11th week since my last touch up and this really is a great style to do just like a lot of you said. Not nearly as good as you proffessional braidouter's but let me know what you think.
It's in my picturetrail album link below.

Your hair has really grown!

Oh yeah, your bun is beautiful! What products did you use to get that healthy shine?

Why would we laugh? I think your hair looks purty!

I know what you mean, though, about being self-conscious. I feel sort of self-conscious when I wear my braid-outs around folks, especially folks who are used to seeing my hair in some other style. But my husband thinks its a fabulous look on me, and I like it a lot, so I'm trying to ignore anyone else.

I'm still looking for the perfect product that keeps it looking shiny all week. It looks great the first couple of days, but as the days go by, it starts to look kinda dry and stringy. Then I usually wear it in a ponytail or up or something. What products do you use?

I think both the braidout and the bun came out really pretty. (I've never done a braidout, but I think I will try for Christmas.) Your hair is so shiny, Godzooki.

I agree with all the posters before me: your bun and braidout are gorgeous!

Your hair has grown *a lot*! The waves from the braid out look similar to the waves of your new growth. Very pretty hair, Godzooki.

YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!! that bun is beautiful! how did you do it? i can't wait until i have enough hair for a nice, full bun. as for the braidout, all fo my attempts looked pathetic. your's was great!!! you should post of pic of yourself in the braids that you use for your braidout! i've been slacking, but you have officially got me charged up!

thanks guys, sorry it took me so long to reply to everyone but I was gone for a while. You guys make a gal feel like she's making some progress! I had no idea what to use for my braidout so I just used my avocado oil/distiilled water mix to dampen my hair then a tiny bit of profectiv breakfree and cornrowed it (sloppily) downward in 7 sections then rolled the ends halfway with satin rollers. I undid it the next day and finger combed it without adding anything. what was really nice was later that night I spritzed it with more water mix and lightly combed it and ended up with thick loosly wavy hair that I pushed back behind my ears and hubby loved it. as for my bun I used my water mix and ubh's lotion moisturizer and twisted it as suggested by a member here. I was so surprised at how it came out that I took a pic immediately because I wasnt sure I'd be able to duplicate it!
as far as regime, I'm kinda slacking right now because I'm so caught up in the holiday chaos. I try to wash twice a week during the hotter days and definately once a week, or twice if it needs it during the colder day but I always dampen my hair nightly with either just dist. water or my oil/water mix as a base and then either ubh moisturizer, profectiv breakfree or root health and occasionally a dab of s-curl . sleep wise I usually braid it in either a single or two plaits or a bun and silk scarve it. sometimes I braid my hair in plaits and dont touch it for 2 days except to spritz it before bed. I'm in my 11th week right now so I mostly leave it in 2 plaits and leave it alone. if I feel my new growth needs softening or moisture I concentrate my spray there then use root health. it really makes combing thru it like butter! I havent blow dried my hair (beyond touch up day when my stylist does it which is every 12 wks) since Nov 02 and I dont miss it at all! I do take vitamins but lately have been horrible slacking! I take mostly the same as everyone here and most I get from puritan's pride. I have to say my biggest pet peeve right now is my gray hair! I hate it so much but I'm too chicken to color it. I started "caring" for my hair oct/nov 02 when my old stylist gave me another horrible mushroom doo and chopped what little growth I kept managing back to the bottom of my neck while crowing about how it was going to be down my back! (something she said everytime for almost 10 years and yet every time it started to touch my shoulders she chopped it back to my neck without fail!) she kept complaining about my hair and demanded I start comming in from 12wks to 8 to 6. my hair got dryer and shedded like a tree in fall. it looked horrible, felt horrible and smelled horrible (hey, I confess I washed every 4 to 5 weeks, used no cond. and blowdried and curled the death out of it!) I got depressed at how bad my hair was and wondered if there were hair boards and went searching and hear I am! Everyone here is so insperational! I love you guys!!
I hope I answered everyones questions and once again, I apologize for posting and not being able to check replies until days later.

Godzooki, the pics look great! Must have just missed you at the Venetian. We stayed there in September...
