Pibbs Quick Dry 515 Hair dryer

I am thinking about purchasing one of these tommorow, being that I'm a rollerset junkie and I'm trying to cut time in half. The sales lady at Sally's said that it can get the hair dry in 30 minutes. I think these might be the ones that they use at the dominican salon that I frequent. Any body have the 411 or some general info about this particular dryer? TIA!!!

Hey JS

You're talking about the 514 and trust me...it's worth every penny. I bought the 516 model, which is no longer made by Pibbs. It doesn't get hot, but has incredible airflow!
If the sales person is white, then she's right...it will dry your hair in 30 minutes. My hair is around shoulder length and I'm under there for 2 hours, mind you have a LOT of hair. So...the amount of time is relative, but it's better than the other hood dryers I've used.

I knew Webby would chime in sooner or later! LOL I have the 514 model. You see a lot of these in the salons. My hair dries within an hour or less. You can also adjust the temperature so that it gets really hot or as cool as you want.

Worth every penny IMO.

Thanks webby!

With my Golden hot, It takes around an hour and a half. I also occaisionally do wet wraps and those tend to take a lil over 2 hours. I'm just tired of being under the dryer all dang day! The price was $279. I liked it because it was on wheels and I felt like I could tuck it away in my closet.

Yeah...it's like I heard my name and came running

Yes...they are much more convenient than the less expensive hooded dryers.

One thing I noticed: I have a problem getting my head in with all black (2.5 inch) rollers, but I would have that problem regardless to the dryer...so it's still worth it.

Hey Webby!

Do you know if Pibbs makes a dryer with a bigger hood? I don't use the black rollers (can't find them) but I'm getting tight with the grey ones.

Does it have a *cool* setting and would it speed up drying time on cool? I'm a rollerset junkie too (I kinda like that one!) and since eliminating heat entirely, I only airdry, which takes forever and a day (about 10-12 hours) or dry on cool setting, which takes about 3 hours. So, finding a hood dryer with cool setting that will speed up drying time has become my new obsession . . .

TIA

That IS the big hood:ohwell:
Mine doesn't have the lift up lid in the front, so I have to slide my head under and up...but it's no wider than the 514.

They used to make one called the Napoleon #518, which might be a wee bit wider, but they aren't making then anymore. Pibbs still sells then for a wopping $595

Yes, the 514 has a cool setting.
Actually, that's the one thing I've grown to love about the 516. I was upset, because it didn't get HOT like the 514, but I appreciate that I can dry faster, without the added heat. It's actually quite comfortable.

OMG it is???

They need to make one with a monster dome then. I hate the fact that I can't turn my head in it but I love the dryer anyway. Or maybe I should have my head shrunken!

Girl, when you're working with the amount of hair that you have....let's just say, there probably ISN'T a dryer large enough

Thanks Webby. One more question - is the dome large? I've upgraded to 3 inch magnetics and my current hood is getting very tight. TIA

Webby and for others that have experience with the Pibbs 514, does this dryer also have good airflow? Webby, is it similiar to the air flow of the 516 from flamingo beauty or is the air flow weaker than the 516? I'm trying to decide which one to buy.

Hi Lady,

I remember Webby saying that there was tremendous airflow under the model she purchased. I have the 514 and the airflow is good.

Thanks Honi, this will be my Christmas present to myself since I've heard such great things about it. My hair is no where near as long as yours, and if it dries your hair well, I'm sure it will do the same for me. Gorgeous hair by the way.
