Phytorelaxer

A stylist just informed me that once you use phyto you can never get a touch up with another type of perm because it has thio (spelling). You have to wait until the hair grows out. Is that true?

Thats not true. I use Phyto and the last time i saw a stylist she put Affirm in my hair saying that it would be better (and it sho was not!). I used Phyto again after that and my hair is growing as usual. I experienced more shedding but that was because of the Affirm and i curbed that eventually with protein treatments.

Cherry,

that is absolutely false! Phyto is NOT Thio-based (Thio is typically found in waves and curly perms, but also in some relaxers) and is compatible with all non-Thio relaxers. Consider finding another stylist.

I HAD MIZANI FOR YEARS AND I HAD MY 1ST PHYTO IN FEB, I JUST HAD AFFIRM TWO WEEKS AGO AND MY HAIR TURNED OUT FINE.

Thanks for debunking that myth. I love the texture of my phyto hair on the new growth but the ends are so tangled I'm starting to get knots. I wonder if once those old permed ends are gone the problem will be solved.

Your stylistjust flat out lied to you. She should know better than that. I think she is just trying to scare you from going to any other stylist and getting a different relaxer.

It's really scary and dis heartening to hear that a stylist - a person who is supposede to be an educated professional in the field of hair and hair care - would tell you something so patently untrue. Did he/she think you would not check for yourself? And it makes you wonder, if that person is no ignorant and uses lies to cover that ignorance, how trustworthy is/he/she to do other services for you?

It seems so often that we bash the stylists - but I do not think it is stylist-hate so much as it is learning enough to be able to question and/or know better. I am very certain there are excellent stylist, and it is quite probable that we rarely hear about the really good ones, which only makes it seem as if there are mor bad than good - something i certainly hope is not true.

Yes, I read that also - I can't imagine what the heck the woman was thinking! Reaching out to grab hair because you think it's not real - what is that?!?!!!!

Daily I am ever grateful that I discovered this forum so that I never have to think I am dependent upon someone else to do the horrid things I've had done to my hair. No scalp burns, no overheated appliances, no manic scissors, no rough treatment, none of the unhealthy and ridiculous things I've been told in the past.

It is still very sad...

Your beautician is not telling the truth. Not that I'll go back to using any other relaxer but I've heard of people using other relaxers after using Phyto w/out any negative effects.
