Phyto screwed up my hair - am I the last to know?!

I wanted to use Phyto because it was supposed to be healthier. And it seemed to get rave reviews. At first I loved it.

But after 2 years, I've realized it's been the culprit for dryness and slowly increasing breakage. I've cut a lot recently. I've been doing LHCF searches and just realized what was to blame after finding an old thread. Am I the last to know? This STINKS!

After losing several inches, I'm starting all over again with dry, busted up hair. I know others have good experiences with the Phyto, but it didn't work for me. :nono:

There are a few threads saying that you should reduce use of proteins if relaxing with Phyto. Apparently, phyto-d hair easily surfers from protein overload because the active ingredient in the relaxer itself is protein. HTH

Phyto is my hair best friend.:yep:

:lachen::lachen:It's Mona's best friend too-check her siggy as she uses it too. I also LOVE my phyto relaxer experiences!

OP, I'm so sorry that Phyto did not work for you. In deed every product is not for everyone. I also agree that you need to question your stylist as he/she should have noted that your hair was not responding well at all.

I speak for most phyto-users on this site when I say: Always add the acv rinse before neutralizing to rid your hair of the relaxer faster. Also, toss the reconstructor that came with the box- it is known to dry out some hair terribly:yep:.

HHG!

Mad I JUST saw this ...

Must be time to bump the ole Everything you wanted to know thread up...

*looks at watch*

I found this out last year too. I began to realize that my Phyto relaxed hair was very particular about which brands of products it would agree with, while the affirm relaxed portion of my hair wanted something else.

Sorry you're having these issues.

Unless you were getting your hair done twice a week 'every other' time is not enough. You should dc EVERY time. Your hair sounds really dry and I would recommend dc'ing no less than once a week. It also sounds like you need to clarify to get rid of build up on your scalp and hair. Also sounds like there may be some overlapping going on from what you describe and since it was 2 years before you started noticing damage.

If you don't properly and consistently moisturize, condition and clarify your hair you will have these problems regardless of what relaxer you use. Phyto is still one of the most gentle even among people who generally don't do well with no-lye because the ingredients aren't the same as regular no-lye relaxers.

Not to get off topic... but yes... I AGREE. My hair needs DC every week at least once. My new stylist (who I love dearly) says that my hair is fine (news to me) so I shouldn't be DC'ing?? What? EVER since I have been going to the salon they have DC'ed my hair and never said anything about it causing build up and it was still fluffy and bouncy. I've resigned to DC at home before I go to the stylist.

I used Phyto for my last (hopefully last forever relaxer) and my hair did feel like straw after but I believe that was because the stylist didn't use a moisturizing poo afterwards...only the neutralizer (said that's all that was needed...WTF..hence why I have a new stylist)... I immediately came home and prepooed with oils and DC'ed and my har came back to softness.

But I will say my hair did look like the straw man before it was flat ironed after using Phyto (which I paid for myself and still paid the fee for the relaxer application at the salon..and yes I took that joint home with me...lol).. After affirm relaxers, my hair used to be soft and silky...but oh that was with moisturizing poo and CONDITIONER under the dryer. Crazy stylists!! I just can't trust myself to go for fully self styling.
