The staff was ultra friendly. I received a consultation. The stylist was very knowledgeable. I didn't go to get my hair done, just the consultation. She stated my hair is dry-which is true. She talked to me about relaxing. And like my LHCF sisters, she stated to try to stretch the time of getting a touch up, but not to the point of breakage. She also noted that the Phyto relaxer wont get your hair bone straight; it will loosen the curl pattern, allowing styling of the hair to be flexible. However, she made this one point: if you have dry hair, you shouldn't deep condition under the dryer because it will open the hair shaft too much and cause more dryness. Do you agree? I would like to know your opinions.

So, of course, I bought products. They gave me a ton of samples. I was even told to come back and get samples any time. The stylist did not rush me, she encouraged me to ask questions and gave me her card if I had anymore.

If you're curious, the stylist was a white European.

If you live in NYC, you can take the 5,4, or 6 to 59th street.

I was told they were working on a discount program for customers, whether it's for products, styling or treatment.

She didn't pressure me to buy anything, but of course the PJ wanted to try somethings:
Phyto Index 1- I will not use this until the end of January.
Phytonectar- Pre poo oil treatment.
PhytoSpecific Shampooing Nutrition Intense- Shampoo.
PhytoSpecific Masque Nutrition Intense- Deep conditioner.
Phyto 9- Daily leave in. I like to use this on dry hair, not wet.
Phytodefrisant- OMG, this feels like nothing going it. It's a straightening balm. You must use heat for this to activate. I had nice, smooth, "got my touch up" looking hair. Usually when I straighten my new growth, when I get out of my shower, it frizzes up again. But this makes it more smooth, but not bone straight.

She gave me various shampoo and conditioner samples that I'm too lazy type, smh.

The whole head relaxer cost $450 and the touch up is $350. You know I'm not going there.

Ladies, where can I get my Phyto touch up that doesn't cost an arm, leg, hand, finger, neck, and a big toe? I would like a stylist that is knowledgeable about Phyto. TIA!

oh siz:perplexed

I wonder who would actually pay that much...

anyway, i too am curious about the deep conditioning dry hair with a dryer/hair steamer because i was just about to seriously start my hair journey w/ that

IMO: The Heat is going to Lift, Raise, Open the Cuticle to Allow the Moisture of your DC to be Absorbed into the Hair Shaft.:yep:

That's why it's 'Important' to Close/Seal the Cuticle after Lifting it when DC'ing with Heat. To restore the PH Balance, and Close/Seal the Cuticle.:yep:

That's why most people will either Follow up with a product like PC To Close(Seal) the Cuticle, or Do a Final Rinse with Cold Water.:yep:

I only DC with Heat. After every treatment, whether it's Steamer, Dryer or Heat Cap, I always use Porosity Control (or a similar product) as a Final Rinse.

OMG! fo'hunnit dollars for a relaxer!!! Where, when, what rock have I been under? There are relaxers that cost that much!?! What does this relaxer do?

That sure is a lot of money for a relaxer...Sounds like a fun trip though!

I've used Phytodefrisant before -- I think it's great for getting rid of frizz, but not necessarily straightening. Surprising tip: It's most awesome for airdrying if you put it on top of your leave-in/moisturizer. That's how I got my bestest wash and go puffs :yep:

Wait to get the relaxer done costs 450 right?
not the actual product itself?

not that it would be any better..but...

phytodefrisant has never done anything to my hair. :ohwell: I have three on the trade board as we speak

I use Index 2 to relax (I self relax:yep:) Index one will probably not get your hair bone straight. I did intentionally DID have a bone straight section of my hair with 2, but thats because the more you dump on, the faster it straightens. that was a lesson I don't ever want to repeat!

For me, I am able to stretch much longer now I use phyto than I ever have in the past. My last stretch was 7 months, This one should be just as long.

I'm now using Phyto Universal Exlir once a week as a prepoo. It has a very strong herbal smell, but I love how my hair scalp feels after I'm done. I usually prepoo an hour before I wash. The bottle is small though but you don't need much.

I do use Phytojoba mask as my now once a week DC ( since I can no longer find ORS Replenishing paks:sad:), I just wear it around the house with a cap on for an hour and its delish! I dont use that much of it and apparently you should not use so much that the hair appears white. a little goes a long way.:yep: If you wanted to steam with any of their conditioners I would certainly say go for it. I rinse that with tepid water for my final rinse. My hair is just amazing looking with this stuff.

I use phyto 9 only if I need to flat iron my hair. its ok. My Honey uses it more than I do and likes the stuff.

I think they do put a lot of research into what they put out there.

I just DC'd without heat, and I don't see a difference. However, I had my hair under a plastic cap and a towel wrapped around. The stylist said that was good enough for dry hair. But I don't know about the long term results. PC-even left on for 30 sec. as stated-always made my hair tangle.

Does anyone know of a stylist in NYC that is familiar with the Phyto relaxer??!!

I think they must have jacked their prices up. I remember I was going to be in NYC about a year and a half ago and had their price list and the relaxer wasn't no $450. I had an appointment for one of their treatments, but they ticked me off because after I'd made the appointment (I'd made it at least a month in advance) they wanted to change it, and I had other commitments I couldn't change at that point. They couldn't seem to understand why I couldn't reorder my plans for them. In any case, I did ask them for names of stylists who used their products outside of NYC which they did provide. You might try asking them for a referral. It is how I found my current stylist who I'm happy with.

Really, I DC'd with body heat and not indirect heat. Any other ladies do this?

i do this cause i'm lazy!!!

i dc on dry hair with a plastic cap for about 30min before i hop in the shower. its done right by me.

now as for this phyto... i dont understand :perplexed why does it cost so much? is it really just a relaxer? i confused :perplexed

I've tried a few of the Phyto products. The only one I have continued to use is the Phytodefrisant Balm. I don't straighten often, but when I [used to] blow-dry, it significantly reduced the amount of time I spent blow-drying, and I could sometimes get away with not using the hot comb at all. I am still using it now that I straighten with the Maxiglide instead. I've had the same tube of Phytodefrisant since the fall of 2008, but I have only straightened 5 times since then; I find I do not need to use a whole lot of it fortunately, since it is rather expensive.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I sure did not know this. You ladies have something new and for me to learn everyday.

This thread was funny. Now that I'm looking at those prices, hell you can go to NYC or LA to get highlights in a salon and pay $500 or more. I've seen price tags of $1000+.

Sorry, that's mortgage money.

I didn't know there was a Phyto store at 59th Street. I know there is a Sephora but I might have missed Phyto.

I use Phyto 2 for relaxing because Phyto 1 doesn't leave my hair straight. Love Phyto because it has been the only relaxer that doesn't burn my scalp, no matter how long I leave it on, no burns to my scalp.

It's before Sephora, on the corner, going up the block. It doesn't look fancy outside, but it sure is once you step off the elevator.

I can't believe a thread I started last year has replies today. :spinning:

Actually, I think I'm going to sale the relaxer I bought (I didn't buy it from the salon). It's index II. I'm afraid to use it!

The reviews are two different extremes of being fantastic; the best, or "it jacked my hair up"; horrible! I don't want to take the chance of my result being the latter.

I just used the protective balm and gloves, the rest is unopened. I know I should post this is the exchange/sale forum, but if you are interested, PM me. And I'll add samples too. :drunk:

Girl, me too ! I usually watch tv or something while I DC, and there is no comfortable place to set my dryer near the tv. Also, I'm lazy, and I don't care who knows it :lachen:.

I have to disagree with you on DC'ing with dry heat. :nono: No matter how rich the conditioner I use is, or whatever kind of moisturizer I have on my hair, artificial heat leaves my hair a little dryer overall than it should be. I think the rule that DC'ing under heat is beneficial for everyone is untrue. I've tried and tried and I'm better off just DC'ing in under a plastic cap for a few hours, or even better - during my workout. I must admit though that I haven't tried steaming yet. I'm on the lookout for one though. And I too love that Roux PC. Changed by life! I use the Shampoo and Conditioner.
