I HAD A FRIEND TO APPLY MY PERM AND SHE PERMED MY HAIR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.

I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING ALOT OF SHEDDING. ANY COMMENTS ON HOW THIS WILL EFFECT MY HAIR? OR ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT I CAN DO TO HELP THE SHEDDING?

yeah - what's going on here?! i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is in no way 'ok'. this is just the beginning of the shedding you're about to see.

what does she need to do now, girls? Motions CPR, maybe?

Do you mean breakage (short bits and pieces of hair)? Your hair is probably overprocessed then. You should do an Aphogee treatment immediately. Are you familiar with this product? It's a heavy duty protein treatment that stops the damaging effects of chemical overprocessing.

You should purchase the following (Sally's has it):

(The first three products sometimes are purchased in a kit. Buy the kit, if you have the option, instead of individual bottles.)

--Aphogee Shampoo http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?pf%5Fid=670500&dept%5Fid=1120
--Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?pf%5Fid=670510&dept%5Fid=1215
--Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?pf%5Fid=670505&dept%5Fid=1215
--Also have a good deep conditioning moisturizer

You will need to follow the directions precisely though (and I mean precisely). Warning: Your hair will get extremely hard. Do not under any circumstances manipulate, touch or comb your hair at the hardening stage. Leave it alone.

After you complete the three step Aphogee treatment, follow up with a deep conditioner for 20-30 minutes under a hooded dryer.

Some other members have had good success using their own shampoo (instead of Aphogee's and skipping the Balancing Moisturizer and just going straight to the deep conditioner). Do a search on this board for "Aphogee." I will try to bump you if I find a thread. Let us know how you are doing.

P.S. In the future, don't let the perm sit on your head for more than 20-22 minutes.

IT TOOK HER A LONG TIME TO GET THE PERM ALL THE WAY THROUGH MY HAIR.......

I HAVE STRINGS OF HAIR NOT SMALL PIECES. I CAN JUST PULL THE STINGS FROM MY HAIR.

I AM CURRENTLY SITTING WITH THE PRODUCT K-PAK ON MY HAIR. I AM LOCATED IN HAWAII AND WE DON'T HAVE A SALLY'S HERE. I WILL CHECK FOR THE PRODUCT THAT WAS RECOMMENDED

Make doubly sure that all the relaxer is rinsed out and your hair is neutralized.

With relaxer left in your hair that long you might have some burn places on your scalp which might sting with the addition of other products.

Edited to add: Also handle your hair gently.

Is that Joico's? It's not as strong as Aphogee's but it is effective in stopping breakage. What kind of moisturizer are you going to do afterwards? I would recommend letting a good moisturizing conditioner sit on your hair for 30 minutes after doing the Joico.

Let me also ask you this? How are you going to style your hair afterwards? Do you have a style that does not require direct heat (blow dryer or curling/flat iron)? I would stay away from direct heat for a couple of months.

Luvmyhair, I can't say enough good things about Nutrine garlic shampoo and conditioner, it stopped my shedding dead in it's tracks, follow with a moisturizing conditioner as it tends to make your hair feel like it was clarified. For $3.99 each it's a miracle product IMHO.

I AM GOING TO USE MOTIONS MOISTURE PLUS CONDITIONER. I PLAN ON DOING CO WASHES DAILY FOR THE NEXT MONTH OR IS THAT A GOOD IDEA??

I personnally don't think this is a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with skipping the shampoo and just using conditioner, but daily wetting, massaging and wet combing the hair is way too much for over-processed hair. The less movement you do the better. I would probably wash every four days or so.

Be careful with the daily co washes. Hair is at its weakest state when wet. Do not manipute your hair too much after the wash. Gentle combing and definitely no brushing.

Debjay, I bought this so that I can stretch my touchup. How many uses did it take before you saw a difference in the amount of shedding. The shampoo bottle says to use it every other day for the next 4 weeks. Did you do that or do you think washing just once a week is enough? (I guess I will have to see for myself, but I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this.) Thank you in advance.

I agree with Perfectpeace. I think daily conditioner washes are way too much manipulation for your hair right now. You need to handle your hair very carefully and as little as possible. I think no heat, keeping your hair in a protective style and well moisturized is very important at this time.

if i were you i wouldnt have even let it sit on my hair for that long and if she wouldve refused to rinse it i wouldve done it my damn self but i agree with the other ladies that u need a good deep conditioner and i wouldnt co wash daily just keep it in a protective style and super moisturized. debyjay- where can i find this garlic shampoo and co??

I think that next time you can do what a lot of ladies here do which is relax 1/2 of the hair at a time. That way you can get the relaxer on and off without needing such a large time frame. Some posters split their hair down the middle vertically into left and right sides and others half it horizantally ear to ear into top and bottom halfs. I have no idea what is available to you in Hawaii but you can try ordering some protein treatments online. HTH

Don't ever let your friend relax your hair again! I can't believe you still have even a strand attached to your scalp. Do you also have scalp burns? When I saw this post, you should have seen my face... I did one of these

Whatever conditioner you use, pay particular attention to the areas where the relaxer was left on the longest. i.e. Wherever she started applying it first would be the area that's been exposed to the relaxer for the longest period of time.

Goodness, I can't even begin to imagine leaving relaxer on my hair for an hour!!

I use a relaxer for sensitive scalps, but let me tell you, when it's time for that stuff to be rinsed out, I am always more than READY for it to be rinsed out!!!

I would conditioner wash AT LEAST every other day for the next few weeks...if will make your hair softer and more flexible...

I would follow up with a deep conditioning treatment at least 2 times per week...I would add a 1/2 cup of olive oil to whatever protien conditioner you are using too...

If you can stand a warm oil conditioning treatment...definitely do that...

Dont do anything to add stress to it...no braids...no heat...no blow drying...no "too tight" pony tails...no wool coats or scarves near your hair...sleep on satin.

I will light a hair candle for you...I wish you the best.

You left a perm in your hair for an hour??? Ouch! My scalp is burning just thinking about it.

I think you need a good protein conditioner followed by a moisturizing conditioner. Avoid applying heat to your hair (blow drying, flat iron, curling iron, etc.) and try not to manipulate your hair as much as you can. Try wearing your hair in a bun or something wear you don't have to do a lot to it. Deep condition your hair once a week. I would think after having a perm in your hair for an hour that it is VERY fragile so be gentle with it.
