Pencil thin coils??? Anybody?

Does anybody else get these little pencil thin ringlets of coils? They drive me insane but they aren't throughout my entire head so I'm confused as to why it only happens to a few various strands. They are hard to detangle because they are too small to be caught by a wide tooth comb and I'm not bold to use a rat tail comb on my natural hair. I just wanna see if any other sistas get these and how do you handle them? I think they are the cutest little devils though.

Yeah, they are just 4a pen spring curls right?

I have a mixture of that and 4b strands. Detangling has become harder because how the heck do you comb through curls tighter than a pen spring?

I now go 2 weeks without washing my hair...just co-washing in the middle. I only put a comb thru my hair to detangle every 2 weeks. Its just too much work to detangle more often than that because its just gonna curl right back up again.

I use my Ouidad double detangler comb or my seamless/wide tooth comb. It's a pain in the a**.

Yeah, like this ladies' piece of hair she is holding.....

They drive me insane and and I really wish there was a way to keep the hairs separated.

I am relaxed, however I am 4 months post relaxer and stretching, (might be transitioning but don't know yet) and that's exactly how some of my new growth looks like! Especially the nape and some parts in the crown area. Detangling my hair is a beast due to the tightness of the coil, I've been getting a lot of ssk's :nono: and it drives me insane. Right now I use Scurl to moisturize, I find that it helps me separate the coils better.

I'm texlaxed and I get these!

I kind of do it to myself because I only finger comb :look:.

Trying to separate those curlies on dry hair causes ssk's for me, so I usually just take care of them on my heavy moisturizer days.

These things seriously drive me insane. They are cute to look at but dealing with them is a whole nother matter. A girlfriend suggested running a denman brush through these little beasts but I find that denman brushes rip my hair out and that's a no no. I've tried dealing with them by putting extra conditioner in the areas they occur in but nothing. I feel like I'm creating mini dreadlocks or something. Errrrrrrrr

My daughter's hair is like this. I have to keep her hair stretched at all times.

My hair texture is like that, I have those little coils all over. I love looking at them but I never wear them out because they're a pain to detangle. I use my wide tooth shower comb and my modified denman brush (I took out some of the bristles) to detangle them (while my hair is soaking wet with product, of course) and I keep my hair stretched.

Mine are smaller than pencils I think......but I dont do anything special.... the size of my curls dont really effect detangling for me...I just finger comb

I have those also and currently i dont use a comb at all. I just finger detangle on both wet and dry hair with product. Komanza califia leave in or honeychilehairlove hair nectar leave in, and the newest member to my aresnal camille almond jai twisting butter. But fyi i have low po,fine strand, and undecided abt texture between wiry n maybe silky. And my hair hold styles without gel and my main style is a braidout.

Me, 4a hair, pen spring coils. Pretty to look at but a bi@tch to detangle.

I suggest trying to incorporate finger combing. I have that tyoe of hair in my napes area as well as my edges and since doing more fingercombing, I don't get breakage like I usually do in those areas. Keeping your hair stretched including your roots will be another helpful tip with it.

Wow. These are my favorite! I love them! They're bouncy when wet with water or conditioner. They rarely tangle or knot up on me. They're silky and have beautiful sheen/shine. Detangling them is easy. It's the other strands/hair types that make me consider relaxing
