Hello all! I have a quesiton regarding relaxing:

I first relaxed my hair and it came out underprocessed so I waited 6 weeks and gave it another try. Now, it came out straighter, but still not as straight as I want. It has major waves in it even when wet and it dries in a fro. So I was wondering, is it damaging to wait another month and do it again? I know I've done it twice already, but since it didn't actually come out straight, wouldn't it not count as overprocessing. I really don't know what else to do and any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I wish there would be more info for you. I would say do a search but this may be a particular problem that needs individual advice that may not come out in the search. hopefully someone will be able to help.

curlycrly: what is a strand test? is this when you put the hair in water to see if its damaged or something?

I believe she is referring to a strand test of a relaxer where a relaxer is applied to a small portion (or just a few strands) of hair and left on for the amount of time desired then rinses and everything else that you would do with your whole head in order to see how the relaxer will work for your hair and how long you should leave it on.

I wish i could provide more info.. all i have to add is that i've re-relaxed my hair 3 times, and waited 4 weeks the first time to "coorect (that didn't work), then 7 weeks the next. So far so good with me and i'm 4 weeks past my last relaxer!

I would suggest doing a heavy duty protein treatment the wash prior to relaxing and waiting at least 4 days to relax. I would also use a reconstructor to ward off damage as my deep condit after neutralizing... that's about all i can say on this matter.. if i remember more i'll be sure tp post

so is her hair overprocessed or underprocessed and what is the difference between hair that isnt straight vs. hair that is underprocessed? i am trying to understand this because i feel i have been underprocessed despite the fact that i used a different brand (revlon) compared to the one i had before (motions oil). i think it may have been the technique used because the same lady applied both and both times it didnt come out straight. i am seriously 2 seconds from boycotting this salon even though their roller sets are inexpensive.

Girl I know exactly what you're going through. I'm have and still am in the same underprocessed boat. This has been going on since December now. I did a relaxer in March and came out underprocessed and I was extremely mad cause I was already underprocessed from December. Anyway, my impatience got the best of me and 3 weeks later I did another relaxer. I only left it on a short time. While my hair looked slightly better and more manageable it is still underprocessed.

My advice to you would be to try and wait at least 8 weeks if you can. I wouldn't want you to chance overprocessing since it's been so soon since the last relaxer. I mainly wear my hair in a ponytail and I rinse everyday. Try to look at this time as a super moisturising mega growth period. Rinse often, oil and seal your hair. Do twist outs and braid outs and watch how fast that hair will grow. Coconut oil is Fantabulous, yes Fantabulous

at changing the texture of the hair. The unrefined kind is a must for us umderprocessed girls trying to hold on to the next relaxer. EVOO is great for sealing in the moisture. Oh and how can I forget the Loreal Unfrizz Smoothing Serum. PM me if you need some specifics.

If you decide to go ahead and relax sooner, like Beana said, use a heavy duty protein conditioner 1 week prior to the process and give your hair lots of deep conditionings prior to that. Please let us know how things turn out.

I agree with Armyqt

After a disastrous hair episode last November where my touch up hair reverted a week later I thought what now? I knew it was too soon to do another touch up so I decided to just wait till the next due time. I used that waiting period to just do alot of airdries, braid outs etc and just look after the hair without using any heat since rollarsets would've looked whack anyway

The next touch up came out excellent and the hair was thicker too. Its worth waiting to accumulate that 'health' while you can
