I read the thread where someone asked about closing cuticles. I'm asking the opposite.

How do you open cuticles?

I just learned about porosity and that I have low porosity hair. Biggest hair break thru for me in the last 5 years. As I understand it, I have to open my hair cuticles to condition and moisturize my hair.

I heard the following works to open cuticles:

heat (heating up conditioner, heating hair with dryer after putting in conditioner, using really warm water, etc.)

steam (using hair steamer or using a wet hot towel under hooded dryer)

castile soap (forgot where i read this but it said to add a bit of castille soap to conditioner)

Anything else?????

ITA.

Another that helps me is using sulphate poo as it helps with lifting and staying away from smoothing shampoos.

Avocado is another ingredient that I find too smoothing in before conditioning and AVG is just a big mo at all times.

Experiment and see what works for you.

Please excuse my iPhone; it's trying to get it together

You need something alkaline like:
Baking soda
Shampoo bars
Anything else with a high pH above 7.
