Ya'll this hair shedding thing is about to send me over the edge. I know I've been fussing and cussing about it for a while now so you probably won't even be interested in this thread. I have to partially blame myself for my experience last night but the amount of shedded hair was just ridiculous. I didn't even bother to count the strands like I normally do. Here's the set up: I'm at just about 8 weeks post relaxer (I expect some mild shedding due to this fact) so since I plan to relax my hair this week I decided to clarify shampoo, moisturize shampoo, protein treat with emergencee and deep condition. I screwed up when I decided I would go to the sink to do my initial wash and rinse. My hair is just at the middle of my neck so I don't usually encounter tangling so I have often washed my hair in my sink with no problem. Anywho, I shampoo'd, rinsed, did protein, rinsed...all at the sink. I then applied my deep condition and kept my hair in the pulled up position that it was in from washing at the sink. I just put the conditioner in and clipped my hair on top. I then jumped in the shower and held my head back and just let the water and my fingers smooth my hair down. It appeared to be working until my hair reminded me that I had a ton of new growth. MAN!!! I actually ran into knots in my hair -- never happened before. I was almost in hysterics as I used my fingers and my jilbere comb to work out the knots. I kept applying a little bit of conditioner to help detangle and give it slip. In the end, I lost an enormous amount of hair..a knot of hair even came out. I cried a little bit last night. I've lost so much hair over the past 3 months that I don't know how I have any hair on my head. I'm going to relax my hair later this week and if the shedding still continues I will make an appt with a doctor for testing. Someone recently told me that it may have to do with the fact that I drink soymilk. He gave me a website and suggested I do my own research about the evils of soymilk. I plan to check on some info today and I will keep you guys posted. Seems like we can't win for losing.

Girl i was in the shedding boat with you. I still am in the tangles boat and have no yet found a cure but I will let you know when I do.

But now that my vitamins are kicking in the shedding is getting back to normal. It is still a lot but it is getting better. I am taking: Biotin, MSM, Horsetail, a B150, and I am about to start back my multi and see if that helps even more.

Girl it's okay. Someone recommended to me to take an iron supplement a few times a week. I think I will do that. Let us know if the shedding declines any. I know how frustrating it is.

ETS: Get yo big ole' head out of the sink!! I think that is part of my problem as we speak, but I can't do anything about it. I hate staying with my mom and her ole' skool tub!

I'm sorry to hear about your hair woes, but I think Mizanimami gave some great advise. I actually wanted to ask about the 'soymilk website'? I only drink soymilk and have exclusively for over 5 years. Can u fill me in on the dangers?? Never knew of any...

Before you start panicking try to find out who is funding anti-soy campaigns and website. The dairy industry doesn't like the particular product and it's a very powerful industry. Also, think of the fact that millions upon millions of Asians and non-Asians drink soymil exclusively, they hair and health is okay...

don't mean to hijack thread

Thanks for responding ladies. I found an interesting website on my own that sounds pretty good. It contributes a lot of information (pro's and cons) and is not one-sided like a lot of other sites. Check this one out: www.veganoutreach.org/health/soysafe.html

The site the guy told me about is:
www.roex.com. Click on "healthy reads" and then go to soybean.
I haven't read anything on the site yet but I will in a minute.

LMAO@ "get yo big ole' head out of the sink!" lololol Thanks for the laugh girl. You made me feel like we've known each other for years or something because that's how my friends and I talk to each other.
I promise I will not let that sink episode happen again and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to get back into a place that allows you to shower wash (like we are supposed to). :)

I've been through it too. Try not to worry too much, as I had the worst shedding but have always had a rather full head of hair.

I wore my hair down today for the first time in weeks. My hair just loves being down more than it does being bunned. I don't shed nearly as much as when my hair is up. I can't figure that one out. Anyway, I'm doing my relaxer on Thurs...can't wait to see the results. Going forward I'll wear my hair down for the first 5 weeks after relaxer and then bun off and on for the last 3 weeks to keep the new growth throughly moisturized. This should help me a lot. I'll keep you posted on the shedding.

ITA..I was getting more than normal shedding almost 9wks post..I went ahead a did my relaxer:( and had a good amount of growth to show for 2 months and my natural thickness remained the same

girl!!!!! _ I did the same. It was the conditioning of my mind that for years from the time I was a little girl to always wash my hair in the sink. I thought washing hair in the shower was for "white" people. Boy did I learn, Boy did I learn! I only do shower washes 98 % of the time and every now and again, the tub -(depending on how much water pressure I need).- which still puts me upside down.

ooh girl - I'm definitely feeling you on this thread! been there.

I think this was partly my problem also. I had abruptly stopped taking my vitamins (because I ran out), and on top of that I think I overprocessed my hair a little during my last touchup. So my hair was probably in shock! I've started taking them again and using all kinds of reconstructors and damage remedies, and so far the shedding has slowed down (knock on wood!)

Its amazing. When I wear my hair down, I get very little shedding. Maybe my garlic treatments and garlic conditioner are finally starting to work or maybe its just letting my hair relax instead of the tension of the bun that is allow it to stay put! I'm relaxing tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all of the encouragement.
