As many of you may remember, I am about 2.5 years into my transition. I have been snipping ends here and there over the past month and a half. (no real rhyme or reason but if they didn't blend in with my wash n' go ponytail or my regular wash n' go, I'd snip a few).

Anywho, I made up my mind that I would wait until the end of summer (September 17th) to finally do my BC. This would work for me for a couple of reasons. For one, I will be attending a fitness bootcamp over the next 6 weeks on a daily basis and my hair will probably be drenched every day, thus causing me to co-wash daily and pull it back, and (2), I can wait until the weather starts to get a little cooler so I can enjoy my new cut since I will be wearing my hair straight more often anyway. I am little excited but anxious at the same time.

Over the next 6 weeks I will be increasing my protein intake (to help me meet my fitness goals) and I am hoping to get some good growth from that combined with my daily exercise, so that's what's making me wait, but at the same time, I am so ready to be 100% natural I don't know what to do! I really do feel like going in the bathroom and grabbing my scissors but I am trying to hold out..............

O.K. rant over......(see the time I spent typing this kept me from going upstairs and cutting......now off to find something else to occupy my time)

Please wait it out, like myself and other transitioners we need someone to lead and motivate us come into the new transitioner thread we need you:grin:

First of all, your hair is gorgeous! Stick with your timeline and wait until you're really ready. You've come so far & like you said you are only going to be pulling it back, anyway.

Either way, if you take the plunge now or later your hair will still look awesome. Your natural hair is already at a great length.

Put...The Scissors...Down BB

Now slowly back away from them. Surely there are dos you can do that won't interfere with fitness bootcamp?! With all the knowledge here at the forum you'll find an alternative.

But what's really going on? Do you feel you need a change or another hair challenge?

:hand: Put the Scissors Down Ma'mam and Kindly Step Off of the Ledge!

Your Hair Looks Beautiful. So, Please don't get Discouraged. Your are Almost there. Just think of How Good it's going to "Feel" when you accomplish this Goal.:yep:

*okay.....let's keep it moving people.....there's nothing to see here.*:look:

Girl I am trying to hold on (for dear life!). I am definitely going to take a trip over to the transitioners thread so I can keep myself busy.

Thanks hon!

I guess the problem is that I think I'm ready now, but I guess the fact that I am having grief over it means that I'm really not, huh. And thanks for reminding me that I am only going to be pulling it back - that's the one saving grace that makes me think twice.

Thank girly!

I haven't straightened my hair out in about 2 months so I am really enjoying my hair in its natural state.....just wish I didn't have the itch right now.

Girl I have put them down (but I so badly want to pick them back up! LOL)

The problem is not really the bootcamp b/c my ponytail/bun works wonderfully for that. In fact because I know my head will be a sweaty mess everyday and I will be cowashing daily, that's my only style option right now and I am o.k. with that. Can't put my finger on why the sudden itch to get rid of the ends all of a sudden when I won't even be wearing my hair out (for the next 6 weeks), but I may look into a challenge to keep myself busy.

I wanted to do the DC every other day challenge, but I have to figure out the logistics of concealing my DC under a plastic cap, then a scarf, then a hat to go to my bootcamp in the mornings.......I am going to ponder that.

Thanks!

Thanks hon! I'm trying to hold out and have no idea where the sudden urge is coming from. O.k. yes I do; just figured it out as I was typing.......I wear wash n' go's on the weekends (as I experiment with different products to see what works and what doesn't) and I guess I keep thinking how much neater my wash n' go's would be and how effortless (less manipulating relaxed ends) it would be if I was all natural. That's where my urge is coming from.

I guess I have to slap my hand and just bun my hair back up after DC'ing on the weekends.

I feel you though, when you get the itch its hard. I get it every few years and I usually end up with an inch of saucy bleach blond hair (my ode to Etta James) and it is fun, fun, fun.

Maybe thats what a painter feels like approaching a blank canvas, ahhhh the possibilities! I always tell myself to keep the hair accessories for when it grows back, but I never do. Shoot, up until last year I didn't even own a comb, but I caved in a bought another one when you couldn't tell the difference between my hair and a bird's nest. Short can be very freeing. But all lengths have their perks and puddles. Your hair is absolutely, hands down, knock out gorgeous!

Whenever I feel scissor-happy i reach for DC instead. Take your time mixing up a truly luscious gourmet deep conditioner for your hair... plan it all out on paper first. By the time you got the ingredients planned out, mixed together and massaged into your tresses, the scissors will be the last thing on your mind! :yep:

That's what I have resorted to. I know my hair needs some kind of attention but just too lazy to give it the attention it deserves so I figure a good old fashioned DC can' hurt anything now can it?

I have so much stuff under my cabinets that I am trying to use up so this idea may work for a while!

WOW, BB!!! I appauld you for deciding to stick it out until 1/17/10! I know your hair will be absolutely beautiful as it is now! :)

That's a great idea. I, unfortunately, cut off 6 inches. Oh well... I'll go for the conditioner next time and plan it out lol! Because when I get scissor happy, there's no stopping me unless somebody :gunner7:

6 INCHES?!?!?!?! OUCH!!! Are you transitioning or were you just bored? LOL

Girl step away from the scissors!

That's only 13 days away. What's the difference between now and the 17th? I say do it! Run, Barbie, run! The scissors are calling your name! LOL plus you will get acclimated with your new hair and will be able to figure out how to deal with 100% natural hair. I say go for it! You still reading? You are supposed to be running! LOL

"See, what had happened was....................." (LOL)

I am sure that once I actually get it done, I will become accustomed to it, but that's the whole thing. I know if I get it cut, I will be forced to wear it straight (to try to maintain the ends) so that's kind of why I am afraid of getting it cut right now. Does that make sense?

O.K. let me try to explain a little further. I hear most people say how they get tangles and knots from doing wash and go's. Well, I don't do 100% wash and go's but I wash it and pull it back in my banana clip. While I haven't experienced a lot of knots or anything, I know if I did the BC (or mini-chop), I would want to wear it straight so I could be sure to keep an eye on my ends and maintain them. That's my whole point - not really ready to start maintaining straight hair right now.

Boston, how often you wear your hair curly? straight? Do you have to do a lot of trims to maintain your ends?

BB

ETA: At the same time, I feel the need to go on and get whatever scraggly ends, etc. off so I can start on the remainder of my healthy hair journey with fresh ends :-(

In the summer I wear it either in a curly ponytail or bun almost every day. I do wash and go's maybe on the weekend. In the fall and spring I go back and forth - one week curly and one week straight. I just go back and forth to change it up and give my hair a break at the same time. Winter time its straight almost the entire time. I am not about to freeze out there with wet hair LOL

I haven't trimmed my hair in 2 years. My ends are fine. I do search and destroys minimum once a month and that's it. I am a DIY'er and maybe that's why my hair is healthy. So far this year I've only gone to the salon once. Next week I'm going to get a blow out and that's it, no scissors for me LOL

If you want to wait I say wait :yep: but honestly you're going to be just fine. Not everybody gets the fairy knots. If you have healthy hair now then you will have healthy hair when you cut your hair. :drunk:

Good luck in whatever you decide! Your hair is gorgeous either way.
