Hey ladies, I am hoping someone can give me a trick to help me or something. I just got my first weave yesterday and it's beautiful. But it is Sooo sooo tight. I can't eat because with every chew it's a stabbing pain in my head. I have taken tylenol w codeine to help with the pain but I don't know how long I can deal with this. Anyone know any tricks to loosen them up. I told the lady as she was doing it that it was really tight and she said it had to be tight to stay... Is that true. Do all of y'all that get weaves have to deal with days of pain?!?

TAKE IT OUT NOW BEFORE YOU END UP WITH NAOMI EDGES!!

Seriously...everyone I know that's had too tight weaves has ended up with bald spots or damaged hair. I know you're going to feel bad because you wasted some money but you can do a search on here for too tight weaves and see the number of ladies that have suffered setbacks.

Good Luck!

Girl If I could I would... Like I said this is my first time, I dont even know where I would cut. None of my girlfriends wear weaves so they dont know either, and I definetly don't have 60 bucks to get it taken out.

REMOVE THE WEAVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I had a similar experience that has left a significant bald spot on the left side of my head that has yet to fill in it even now, and it's been over two years. Save yourself the heartache and remove it while you can still salvage your hair follicles. Leave it in, and the chances of you permanently damaging your follicles will be much higher.

find somebody who can take it out for you. The pain you are talking about seems to be too much for a typical weave.

A weave can be tight but this sounds abnormal if you have to take pain pills. Its not worth it.

Girl, you better post asking any LHCFers in the area to meet you and help you take it out. All one needs to do is cut the thread that was used to sew it in. Even a dude could do it if he was told what to cut.

The longer the weave stays in, the more trauma it causes your follicles. There should never be any excuse for anyone to pull tight on your hair till it hurts. It's not that serious. Braids staying in do so not because they are tight at your scalp but the braid itself, the rope part of it, is firmly done. Anyone who has to pull "in order for them to stay" is not GOOD at what they're doing. Please believe me when I tell you there are people who don't pull. They may not come cheap, but you pay for what you get.

I believe there are a few YT videos on weaving. Watch them with someone so they can get the technique and then have them look for that thread in your hair and cut it to loosen the tracks and take them off then undo those braids ASAP.

Girl, if there is a will there's a way! I know you paid money for it, but do you really want a possible setback? Search google, youtube, LHCF, go to another hair dresser...something before you give yourself bald spots. That weave sounds too tight.

I understand your dilemma, you spent the money and want to save it - but from experience, if it hurts this long more than a few hours after installation - REMOVE IT.
Its not worth it.

Eeek! I def don't want that... But the crazy part is my edges don't hurt its the center of my head thats killing me. I'll see if I can get one of my friends to take it out. Ugh this sucks for real

WOW it seems like there is no other advice to give but to take it out. Best of luck to you sorry you have to go through this. I would send you an e-hug but it sounds like your in too much pain for even that!

You can't go back to that person and tell her the braids are so tight that it's giving you pain, and have her take it out, or loosen it without charge?!? If not, I wouldn't go back there again.

Did you go to a professional salon to get it done? If so you can go back and have them loosen it and redo the parts that are too tight for free. You trust them to not give you a medical condition and you can very easily get traction alcopecia from this. The fact that they're professionals means you shouldn't have to worry about this. you can sue them if anything happens to your hair and if they dont comply threaten to contact the better business bureau.

This is what I would recommend as well.

ITA. Go back, you told her it was too tight initially and it is still feeling painfully tight. You can end up w/bald spots. Please get that ish loosened or removed. I would emphasize to them that you are feeling like you may need a trip to the doctor if it's not loosened, that's how bad you feel. They don't want to pay for that.

Omgsh, this thread is hilarious, no offense to the original poster. My advice is the same, take it out, now...It is not worth it. You came here for advice, and these ladies have experience--so maybe you should just follow the bulk of advice given to you. The only alternative I see is---well when I had a weave that was too tight I loosened it myself--but I am pretty skilled at redoing other peoples work. It is pretty easy to do if you watched her put it in (in the mirror perhaps).

Just keep in mind that bald spots (damage) to the crown are the hardest areas to remedy.

I know. I am dealing with own issue there.

using an applicator bottle to squeeze some cool water on your scalp may give you some temporary relief. good luck.

I would take it out. I used 2 take mine out on my own. I would sit in front of the mirror with one of the seam ripper things and take it out.. it would take and hour or two but I didn't have to pay anyone to do it. Watch some youtube videos on how to take it out.

Disclaimer: I don't know anything at all about weaves - having never seen one in person. I am offering what seems (in my untrained opinion) to be a common sense suggestion.

If the pain and tension is too great for you to wait for a knowledgeable weave takedown, would it help to douse your scalp with a heavy, warm oil (e.g., olive oil or castor oil), then subject your head to steam (i.e., a steamer or a steamy shower - but do not stand under the water jet, steam only). This might serve to loosen the tension on your scalp.

So am I! Don't ever mess up the hair at the center (crown) of your head, you may never get it back!

I've never had a weave, but there are horror stories all over this site and other sites about people suffering from permanent bald spots and thinning from too tight weaves.

I wouldn't care how much it cost or how much I didn't know how to take it down, I would get that thing out of my hair no matter what. I don't think you should wait, take it out right away.

You need to get your money back, bc it sounds like she doesn't know wth she's doing. If I were you, I'd go back and complain, complain, complain. Seriously, you shouldn't be in that kind of pain, hun.

I really hope OP took our advice

On another forum someone posted pics of their friend with the SAME circumstance...well she left the weave in and it got infected...she posted a really graphic image so use your imagination! Not worth it!

Sorry to say that I agree with the other posters.

To answer your question, no it is not true. It's like all other hair myths that many uneducated hairstylists have. I have my first full sew-in and I did everything possible to avoid tight braids and a tight sew in. My hair is so lose that I can slide a whole finger under my braid and scratch everywhere! No patting my weave for me. And it looks fine.
We'll see what my hair looks like when I take my weave down, check for bald spots etc but for now, I feel pretty pretty good about it. Maybe it'll be my first youtube video?! Hmmmm.....

It really disappoints me when I hear stories like this; 2 stories to be exact. I just don't understanding having to medicate myself for a hairstyle??! That can't be the hairstyle for me...and I hope it's not the hairstyle for you either.

I think folks should probably make an install a 2 day process if they can (especially if you don't know the braider or how tight they braid.) Brain one day and then wait at least 24 hours to see if it's not tight. Often, we don't know it's tight until the hair is sewn in which for some women may seem too late (issues with speaking up or paying the stylists etc.)

I say take it out. My sister was in a similar situation, painfully tight weave with throbbing pain in the center of her head...by the time she took the weave out she had lost a good chunk of her hair from the center:nono:. This was about 3 yrs ago and the hair has not grown back. She even had surgery performed on that area but it is still bald...the hair just will not grow back. I believe the skin there is permanently damaged :(

Is it worth it to you? Can you risk permanently losing your hair because of a weave?
