OMG...Her hair is Crazy long!!!

LOL, is she the one who you and Irresistable were talking about?
The one who said that she used Vaseline on her daughter's hair and had fire and brimstone thrown upon her?

Anyway...her hair is GORGEOUS. I couldn't do it...I'm too short to carry off that much hair, but wowwww. :thud:

:yep: the same girl. You now clearly see I wasn't exaggerating about her length!. Vaseline, Nexxus Humectress prods, and the Maxi Glide...that's what her mama said she used in the old vids.

She's actually quite short herself, guestimate between 5'1-5'2, but her hair does revert to mid back-waist or so. It's shows it's full length w/ the Maxi Glide. Since her mama takes care of it for now, I guess the length is no biggie for her YET!

Here's to hoping she learns to care for it herself w/o going thru any teenaged hair phases of bad experiments.:giggle::ohwell::grin:

Stephanie is a member of this forum. She doesn't post a lot but she has posted a few times.

That was a LOT of hair. Can you imagine, never having the worry of bad hair care experience because you grew up with understanding the basics? Now that is something to think about.

mscocoface I know Stephanie is a member of this board, but her "fame" doesn't come from hairboards, but her prod line. She started that in the mid 90s or so around the time of Wanakee.

Well, yes I can imagine growing up w/ good hair practices because I did. Many kids actually do grow up this way, but what happens is they get in their teens-20s and want to "fit in" so they start doing all sorts of things to their hair. So many folks always talk about having long hair as kids (I'm skeptical on most claims, I'll admit) and then they can't do anything to make it grow when they're older. It's because their mamas stopped caring for it AND they abandon the old fashioned techniques that work. Most BM who have long hair, methinks, maintain in the old fashioned ways w/ old fashioned prods.

One thing that's missing in the Black hairboard world is how to maintain the long hair once you get it. Nope, it's not all common sense and there's a learning curve. Growing is one thing, maintenance is something else I find. ;)

 Beautiful!:spinning:

I remember that. I don't understand why she caught so much heat for that.:gotroasted: Apparently, she's doing something right, judging by the end result. It seems to be working well for her.

^^^ I wish it could be more interactive tho I understand why she's chosen otherwise....there are so many unknowns about HOW she uses the prods on the kid's hair. Example, we never found out if she used a leave-in (maybe some of the Humectress?) to style her hair or if she used the Vaseline for that purpose. We never found out if she used a comb and/or brush, how often, and what kind? What about tangling/detangling issues? Hair of anywhere near that length has to have tangling kept to a minimum or else risk serious breakage.

I figured out most of it just looking at her vids, but there are a few mysteries. As simple as the prods are, I know she's got tome "workarounds" for the issues of detangling and what tools she uses other than what she listed. :detective: :giggle:

(LOL...I'm posting all this cuz I know she reads over here....here's some Qs for ya Missy! ;) )

Wow. I like how her ends look. Ma must really take care of it!

I missed all the drama last time but I'd heard the story. Never saw the pics. How can anyone diss her regimen. I mean, look at all that hair. Shoot-ma used Jergens on my hair as a kid and in a pinch, vaseline would do. Sounds like a bit of haterade.:perplexed

I've never heard of that poster midnightcurls, was she a member here or someone from Fotki or something?

Stephanie Struthers of Hairobics is knee length or more, but I don't consider her a hairboarder! She's a bidness lady! One of the earliest artisinal lines catering to the Black hair market.

Midnitecurls was on Naturallycurly.com (maybe she was on here?). She was on for a short while and became a minor celebrity. I know she had a ton of folks stalking her and threads started about her. She had 3bc hair and it was sooo long. It must have grown fast because she had pics of it much shorter and showed the stages in between. One day, she disappeared. Folks still talk about her - LOL.

Basically. Why else would people shut down proven results? Somehow many of us have become indoctrinated by a certain LHCF - no heat, no Pantene, no grease, 24/7 protective styling, no pink oil, no brown gel' way that blinds us from accepting variety - even when we have butt length hair staring us in the face. So we don't want to hear that someone used 3 products and a maxiglide to reach unimaginable lengths. Somehow, that offends and even threatens some of us, having grown accustomed to doing a million and one things to grow a few inches.

I think it has to do w/ being skeptical of the fact that sometimes an inexpensive solution is better than one that costs a fortune. :giggle: She's not using the $500 flat iron (she and Leo use the Maxi Glide) and all that, but her hair ain't complaining. :lachen: Funny thing is that Nexxus prods have long been on the :nono: list and so have Pantene (Leobody). Obviously this isn't true for all. Maybe these folks will encourage people in reconsidering more afforable options. The level of spending is EPIC when one considers how many DON'T spend that and have "da huah".

I never used Nexxus prods, but I've revisited Panthene in recent years. It's drastically improved. :yep:

The mother now says she's co washes the kid's hair (and gives big ups to LHCF  for that), so I'm REALLY curious about how this works w/ her length and how she dries her hair? If she does this fairly often, drying her hair is an issue. I wonder if she co washes from the roots or after a certain point?

Melted Vaseline I also find is popular in Dominican oils...some simply list it as "melted vaseline" :look::grin:.

She said she pre-poos now and it drastically cuts down on her wash time

From what I remember she wears her hair in 1 beautiful long braid most of the time

^^^ Oh right, pre poo...did she say what she did it with?

Iris, you and I BOTH know that she wears it up somehow cuz she wouldn't have that hair if the braid was worn hanging down. Sad, but true....kids (and adults) are a mess these days. :nono:

That's interesting. My mother told me my grandmother put body lotion in her hair. She said in her time there was no pink oil. It was just dixie peach and body lotion. The black hair hair section has about five products, and all of them were pomades.
