Sorry I know that title was long
Im a newly relaxed head, using no lye
I've read some threads about chelating shampoos
Is this necessary to use?
Or is there something I should do for my first wash?

A lot of people told me to use a clarifying or chelating shampoo for the first wash after a relaxer, however I personally feel that its too stripping for my hair. I am currently in the middle of my post relaxer regimen, using all moisturizing products. I think next week I'll use a clarifying shampoo. If your hair feels limp/isn't taking to moisture (no-lye tends to lock moisture out) than go ahead and use a clarifying-poo....just make sure to follow up with a moisturizing DC.:yep:

I concur!

I love Elasta Qp's "Intense" conditioner... it makes my hair feel so silky, smooth, and hydrated! I use it after each time that I use a clarifying shampoo, reconstructor, or a protein treatment.

My first wash after a touch-up I use Proclaim Neutralizing Shampoo, which also clarifies, for my first lather. For the second lather I use Generic Nexxus Therappe. It is a moisturizing poo. My hair does well with this combo.

why did you use a no-lye after all the talk about the drying effect it has on the hair, it leaves a coating of sodiom on the hair that makes the hair dry.
use a clarifying shampoo then a moisterizing conditioner as a deep conditioning treatment... I like JOICO.

ION purity treatment to remove relaxer residue followed by another protein treatment (usually Fiberguard).

Kenra Chelating is great for me. Not stripping at all if you only do one or two lathers with it.

I too plan on using a no-lye relaxer because my scalp just cannot take lye relaxers:nono:. Heck..I burn a little even with no-lye but the lye sets my scalp on fire so I cannot leave it on long enough for it to do the job. I plan on using a clarifying shampoo as my first wash after the relaxer.

yes it is necessary to use and yes it is stripping, just as alot of clarifying type shampoos are.

Its just to make sure you get rid of the calcium build up from the calcium hydroxide. Calcium hydroxide and/or guanine hydroxide (sp) are the reasons why no lye relaxers have a bad rap. They build up on your hair and don't allow moisture from products to penetrate they way they would if you use a lye relaxer. Thats why they are also good for people who have build up from hard water or chlorine especially in summer months.

Just make sure you use a really good moisturizing conditioner afterwards to counteract the "stripped" feel.

Every couple of months I use this before a protein treatment or before a relaxer so that both can do their work faster and more efficiently.
