Using heat isn't a big issue for me. I'm relaxed bone straight so I'll sacrifice using heat on top of all the chemicals. Rollersets work really well for me and gives me the straightness I want. This is not to say I won't ever use heat, because I will it just won't be every week/fortnight. Doing this means I don't have to get trims at very regular intervals my stylists has said that my ends are in very good condition.

I'm on a no direct heat reggie, not for growth reasons or anything, I'm just really lazy and lack patience to flat-iron and such :lachen:. I personally believe that one can achieve long hair and still use direct heat (I've seen too many heads of long hair on youtube that use direct heat to say otherwise). Whether that hair is deemed as "healthy" or not or how frequently they can use direct heat is really up to the individual, their hair type, and the standards/expectations that they have for their hair. Many people apply the standards they hold for their own hair to others, failing to realize that the other individual may have entirely different expectations for their own hair.

Anyway, when I airdry I usually put my hair in some sort of style (bunned, braided, etc...) until it dries. It reduces frizz and makes me not want to touch it so often. When I touch it my hair tends to be slightly frizzy and not as smooth as I'd like it to be. Also, if I'm dealing with a lot of NG I'll scarf my hair while air-drying to make my NG lie down flatter.

I rollerset and let the set air dry over night. Or I just twist my hair and let it air dry in the twists. I am 42 weeks post and I do not rely on heat to get me through this stretch. I think relying on heat, for me at least, would lead to more of a set back than length gain.

No heat for me is not using heat at all. I would use heat to DC, but don't have a hooded dryer. So I leave on my conditioner overnight or for a few hours to DC.

I am on a no to low heat challenge, which is the Boot Camp for 2010. I only use direct heat right before my weave install and that is a blow dry so that will be about once every 3-4 months. Other than that I dont use heat I usually just do 5 big flat twist (I just mastered this) and let my hair air dry. I have noticed a HUGE difference in my hair.

I only use my hooded dryer when DCing twice a month for about 10-20 mins. Then I either rollerset or cornrow my hair and allow it to airdry overnight.

I personally dont understand the whole "No Heat" thing. And I am not being rude, just dont get it!!! I don't want to walk around looking like I just woke up going to work! I have 4a/4b hair and I just see that impossible. I have been using heat all these years and my hair is still growing.... idk, and I am not being rude! :) I just don't get it, how do you do your hair???? You can't ever straighten it, so how about the nice sleek look? You just don't flaunt that?

So I guess that's why blowdryers have the shape of a gun. I always felt a little suicide when I used heat.
(LOL).

When my hair was texturized it reached bra-strap length. The only heat I used was when I used a diffuser, and I always used it with my hair drenched in leave-in conditioner and grease (please forgive me LOL). I guess the diffuser worked like a hooded dryer, the heat you get with a diffuser is indirect if you keep the blowdryer far form your head.

Anyway, now that I've seen the benefits of air drying I have a heatphobia.

I get your not understanding a no heat reggie, it took me a while to get it myself. When I first started my journey I was on a no heat reggie, and it was BADDDD!!!:wallbash: So, I went to a lo heat reggie where I would rollerset every week, that worked for a while!

Now, I'm back on a NO heat reggie and my hair is flourishing! I have relaxed 4b hair and not to toot my own horn but (toot, toot:grin:) my hair doesn't look like I just woke up and left the house. Both my siggie pic and avi are air dried hair. :yep: It can be done, the key is finding the right leave-ins and air drying method for your hair!

I use absolutely zero heat. Whenever I co-wash, I apply my leave-in, let it airdry for a little bit, and then do a braid out. I do this at night, so I won't have to worry about looking like a hot mess if I have to go out.

And I agree with using heat only to deep condition, something I need to start doing again on a regular basis.

I only use heat for my weekly DC. I air dry my relaxed hair to ~60% dry and then apply leave ins and oils. I gently comb my hair every 20 mins until dry and my hair is pretty straight when completely dry. That's all the heat I've used in the last 8 months.

I use heat but not very often. I definitely use a hooded dryer with my DC's whch I do anywhere from once a week to every 2 weeks. I use my hair steamer intermittently as well. As for flat-ironing and blow-drying, very very rarely - I'd say about once every 6 months when I am doing a length check now that I am natural. I did one in April of this year and will probably be doing another one for my birthday in October.

I need to use some heat sometimes so I'm not an absolutely 'no-heat' kinda gal. Low heat works well for me to retain the length of my hair. I do remember however, when I did use the flat iron/blow-dryer weekly, my hair did broke off really badly so I am pretty careful about that ever happening to me again.

I haven't used heat for over a year...Protective styles have really helped.
Bantu knot out (like in siggy pic) straighten out my roots and hair so that I can see a lil more length.
But I will occasionally sit under a dryer to DC. Or if my bantu knots are still a little damp, I dry them w/ a hand dryer on low heat.

I'm really fickle and wishy-washy when it comes to heat; I do it when I feel like, but I don't think it's necessary for me, especially now that I feel comfortable doing wash 'n' go's on my hair. If I do use heat, it's when it's cold outside (because Mississippi's too humid any other time of year to avoid reversion), and I blowfry and flatiron on high (bad, I know) to do a length check, maybe a serious trim. I used to use heat to do weekly DCs but, I stopped DCing weekly almost a year ago because daily moisturizing's enough for me, but I will use heat every couple of months if I do a protein treatment with Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructor.

I've been airdrying with a silk scarf for a couple months now. Not using direct heat helps me to retain moisture better because the blow dyer was drying me out!

No heat for me means... no heat. I only use the hooded dryer if I'm too impatient to wait for my braids or bantu knots to air dry, but other than that NOTHING. My main styles are braid outs, bantu knot outs or stretched hair

No heat for me, literally means no heat. I stopped using heat many years ago, basically because I was just tired of blow drying, hooded dryers, the whole heat regimen. Of course, this means that I gave up the idea of having bone straight hair. I let my hair air dry. If I want it to be quick, after washing, I use a microfibre towel. Will dry your hair and doesn't promote frizz in a very short period of time. If not, it's air drying. I just style my hair (using whatever styling aids) and let it dry. Doesn't cause any crazy looks for work or anything. If I want a sleeker look, I'll put my hair in a bun or pnytail and tie a satin scarf around the front until I'm ready to leave.

It's like anything else, it all comes together after you've been doing it for awhile. I never really thought of it as saving my hair, or helping it to retain any length, not my purpose for doing it, but, of course, it does all of those things.

I put my hair in a bun and let it air dry. It's a hard practice at firs but you get used to it after a while.

I use direct and indirect heat. When I'm at home I sit under the hooded dryer in 4 or 5 braids (or cornrows), take them out when they are completely dry and then further stretch my hair with one or two swipes of my hand held dryer with a comb attachment on each section to further straighten it. My hair usually looks like my siggy when I take it out but Im not too fond of braidouts so I stretch out the kinks a little bit more.

When I say "no heat" I mean no flat irons, curling irons, blowdyers. Hooded heat is ok.

Personally, I airdry because I hate sitting under a dryer. But that's always what I understood "no heat" to mean.

Same here. And i only sit under the hooded dryer to deep condition and i airdry. Ive used direct heat 1 time for the past 14 months for a lenght check

Just what do those of you who are are texlaxed /or even naturals do for a "no heat regimen"

I airdry. I DC on dry before I shampoo with no heat (eg DCing Dry on Twists). If wearing twists or braids, this is easy and I just need to drape a towel over my shoulders to catch the drips for the first few minutes or so, and then I just go about my day and let my hair dry in its own time. With extension braids, I do towel dry. With twists, I just let them drip dry. If I don't plan to wear my twists down, I will towel dry and then put them up in a style while still damp and let them airdry that way.

When wearing my hair out, I do towel dry then apply S Curl while still damp and then comb using the slip from S Curl. This puff was created on damp hair that was left to airdry in this style:

im natural....i exclusively airdry because i only where wash n gos and curly syles where heat isnt required...i'm not against heat totally (even though i am paranoid of heat damage lol) i did a blowout a week ago (on low and cool) and oneday i do plan on doing rollersets occasionally, and i probably would blow or flatiron the roots if i had to ( i will never flat iron the length though)...i DC with heat occasionally, and i'm getting a steamer, but im not a fan of direct heat

I am on a no heat regimen and always was since I went natural. As far as drying goes, I air dry. I air dry in twists, braids, bantu knots, or banded with goodie ouchless bands to stretch it. Simple as that :)
