Nighttime Regime for Naturals

Hello all -

I'm just full of questions tonight. My husband is going to start hating this board cause I spend more time on here researching than I do layin on the couch watching tv LOL But he'll understand when my hair is to DIE for.

Can anyone share what their nighttime regimens are for your naturals?

Currently, I "grease" my scalp with Hollywood Beauty's Castor Oil Treatment, run a little through to the ends and then I wrap hair is a stretchy turban (forgot the name of it - it doesn't cover the entire back, but it ties down the front. In the morning the hair is compact but unfortunately the nape to crown area is terribly dry still - despite the greasing.

So I'm looking for tips, tricks, solutions. Thanks!

bump!

currently i just throw on my bonnet and go to sleep...if it falls off i have a satin pillowcase. i dont do anything till the morning...

...but i do wanna know.

On nights that I don't do a DC, I put BT on the scalp and put Profeciv Breakfree and Shea Moisture on my hair and throw a silk bonnet on. On nights that I do a DC, after rinsing I put BT on the scalp spray my glycerin/aloe vera/water/castor oil mix on my hair. Then put breakfree and shea moisture on, put a plastic cap on then my bonnet.

I always moisturize my hair with a water based moisturizer and seal with an oil at night. I usually try to use some kind of essential oil on my scalp for the night. If my hair is already in cornrows (which is how I usually keep my hair since I wear a lf most days) then I just apply the moisturizer and oils directly onto the braids. If my hair is down then I put my hair into 4-6 braids. Some nights I co-wash first then apply moisture and oils. Once done I tie on my satin scarf. I'm starting to think the satin scarves that I get from the bss aren't doing it for me, so I plan on switching to 100% silk scarves soon.

sometimes i just throw a satin bonnet on. if my hair is out i'll twist it up into four twists or put it in two pigtails and twist those... i either baggy my ends with moisturizer or i put on a showercap over my whole head after moisturizing

Bumping s'more and taking notes.

But I can say that all I ever do is put a satin bonnet on and got to bed, the bonnet has a stretchy ring that keeps it on my head throughout the night. I'm going to start moistuizing at night and baggying to keep my ends moisturized.

I applyboundless tresses on my scalp. Spray vegetable glycerine and water on my hair and apply organix split ends mender. Twist my hair up in little twist. Put a scarf on.

Taking notes.....

OT: Girl that siggy is FIERCE!! :yep:

OT: Intelligence is beatiful....your siggy is FIYAH!

Back on topic:rolleyes:...No matter how my hair is styled my night time regi doesn't change much. Co-wash, or w/o (water only) rinse seal with ONE of the following: coconut oil, cocoshealoe mix, or ORS olive lotion. If i'm bunning I don't take the time oil my scalp :nono: but in twists or braids I take the time to apply my e/o blend through the parts. Most nights I tie my head up with a silky scarf...when I don't my hair rebels.

Conskeeted: what material is your turban made of? Some materials are just as effective as cotton when it comes to sucking up moisture. You may need a larger piece of material to cover the nape and back.

You can dampen your hair with water before sealing with your Castor Oil to moisturize more effectively.

Most of the time my hair is in twists. I will moisturize & seal and then pull my twists together tucking them within my hair. This keeps them moisturized. I then put on my satin bonnet. I also have a satin pillow case.

Oh, forgot to add I also use MegaTek on my scalp every other night.

This is wonderful - all my questions are really getting serious clarity right now.

A question about the twist method - I mentioned in another thread that I have some thinness at the temples and nape - how do you go about dealing with trouble spots in terms of twisting? Do you just smooth them down with whatever moisturizer and then twist everything else? Or do you get them to twist as well?

I forgot to mention that I do this also. :yep:

I had to reintroduce spritzing my hair at night and sealing before putting into a top bun because my ends were drying out too much. I also sleep with my hair on a satin pillowcase (my hair doesn't like daily baggying).

I loosely twist my hair to the side and either sleep on a satin pillowcase or put on a satin bonnet, though I have to stuff my hair into those things. That's all.

I just moisturize and ie it up w/ a scarf. Lately I have been oiling my ends before bed. If it is loose usually I put it in big twists or a pony tail.

I'll suggest you to
  • moisturise your hair in the night, not just before sleeping if your moisturiser is liquid,
and then
  • seal it with your carrot oil like you usually do before tying a satin silk scarf on your head before sleeping!!!

it depends on how I wore my hair and if I am going to cw or poo in the morning

if i know I going to poo or cw in the morning, I mist my hair with water and seal my hair with oil and braid it up and sleep with silk scarf. sometimes i baggy but i normally don't

if I wore my hair hair in a wet set (curly), curlformers, straight and things of that nature i use Blended Beauty Straight Pearl and seal with olive oil and sleep with silk scarf or satin bonnet if i wore my hair straight i pin curl my hair and use silk scarf

if I wash my hair at night i set my hair by pin curling sometimes curlformers. i use silk scarf with pin curls.

as a backup plan i sleep with satin pillowcase because i have a tendecy to fall asleep watching tv

braiding my hair at night has reduced tangles and breakage especially in the crown area

Again - forgive the newbieness. I'm really new to this spritzing / sealing notion -

So i just spritz my hair with water mist... and then apply my pomade to it (whatever it is - right now it's Castor Oil treatment)?

Intelligence is Beautiful- that picture is too much! I live in CT and am in NYC all the time- we should get together and do lunch!

I usually apply scurl/shea combo; seal with caster or carrot oil/ apply leave in and wrap with scarf. I bun in the mornings.

I apply my mega-Tek to the scalp, and spritz, tie on my doo-rag, and head to bed - that's it.
I rarely wear my hair loose, so it's usually in some sort of twists/updo/fixed style when I go to bed.

When not in braids, I only apply anything to my hair on wash day (SCurl): first in the AM on damp hair, then at night before baggying. Also before putting on my plastic cap for the night, I put my hair in plaits every single night. It's just something my mom did to me and I have never seen any reason not to continue. In fact, I think if I didn't, my hair would turn into a tightly curled mat (like a doormat) and be a pain to deal with. I find this also minimizes tangles and knots. The days following wash day, I don't do anything at night except plait my hair in big square plaits and wear the plastic caps. No products necessary as my hair stays moisturized after that first day's application till washday.

Now that I'm in braids or when I was in twists, my night time regimen was just putting on a plastic cap and calling it a night.

If I wear a bun during the day (which I do most days) I spray with water and apply Giovanni Direct Leave In and then oil on top of that. If I wear a puff I do the same only I add Mango Butter to the ends because the puff drys them out. I put it in 4 twists and put on a satin bonnet. I also use a satin pillowcase at all times just in case it comes off.

I have a water mixture of vegetable glycerin, pure vitamin E oil, peppermint, rosemary, tea tree essential oils, castor oil and poland springs water or distilled water. I spritzed this on my hair at night and put a shower cap on, tie it down with a stretchy type scarf and voila. I wake up to moisturized hair.
