Thank you!

I am in grad school...so no time or money! Haha.

I just wish there were instructions that were written out and then had pictures or a video. But I can't just watch the video. I don't learn that way... I start to zone out and then they say stuff like flat twist and I don't know what that is you know?

But maybe I WILL try BKT. I do know how to flat iron and blow dry. I can't damage myself with BKT like a relaxer right? Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

Pressing=flat ironing right?

I'm a pressed natural and I remember all too well the fear of reversion. :) If pressing is done properly over time, your hair will stop reverting AND you will avoid heat damage. You can press your hair yourself, but please be careful, use a heat protectant, and invest in quality tools. The key to using heat and keeping your hair healthy is to find your sweet spot that will give you the look you want without causing damage. I got from EL to APL pressing every two weeks. For you, that might be too much.

Also, I agree with other posters that our hair type requires effort and/or money (using a solid stylist) to be healthy.

For me pressed = flat irons only. You can't control the heat on most pressing combs which is a big no no for my hair at least. Can't those get really really hot?

They can but the comb starts to cool down every time you remove it from the heat source. Not so with electric irons. If its too hot (smoking) when you remove it you can wait 5-10 seconds before applying to hair. Pressing combs cool down fast as it heats up. I used to lay the comb on a paper towel. If it burns the paper towel then you know its too hot.
