Hello ladies, after being a lurker for a few weeks I'm finally coming out of the shadows and I'm confident enough to take the advice I've read and use it to my own benefit!

I had really nice hair when I was younger, I'm of mixed descent: mom is Arabic & White (from Morocco) and dad is from St. Vincent. Anyway as I got older I started playing around with perms, hair colors, haircuts, and now I'm trying to mellow it all out and just go back to taking care of my hair. I was doing my own hair for a few months until I had my friend put a weave in and when I took it out, lets just say it was really bad. Months of hard work went down the drain and I had to go back to going to a salon to get my hair back (which included a BC because my ends were HORRIBLE).

Anyway, my hair went looking like this last year (I'm on the right):

Firstly ladies, and I turn to ya'll because I don't feel comfortable asking anyone else, what do you think is my hair type? I've been struggling to figure it out and I just can't! :wallbash:

Secondly, I've done some shopping today to concoct my first hair cocktail; I know it will be awhile before I find what works best for my hair, but I used to use Biolage and Nexxus Humectress and now I'm opting for pre-pooing with Aveda DR Intense Treatment, Shampoo/Wash with Aveda DR line, followed by Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave-in and lastly either a rollerset or air dry followed by a flat iron on low heat. I'm going to be using low manipulation and low heat, which is definitely a first for me because I always do blowouts and flat irons :ohwell: As far as moisture goes, I'm going to be mixing a treatment of Jojoba, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper, and some extracts I bought (Burdock Root, Nettle, and Saw Palmeto - all good for stimulating hair growth.) I think I'm going to probably put some of the oils with my pre-poo DC though, and leave the rest to go in my conditioner. I don't know, this is all new to me and so I really want to just go about it properly.

Any tips or suggestions would be highly appreciated!! I highly admire you ladies and hope that I can one day be on here showing my achievements just like you all have.

My goal is to be APL by December!

Welcome Smc

I can only tell your hair type by looking at your new growth. I just see straight pretty hair. Your regimen sounds interesting. Some more experienced members will chime in on regimen.

For moisture, you'll need something water based. These are just base oils and essential oils...while good, I wouldn't use them as the sole product for moisture. If you plan to leave it as is, the oils you mentioned seem like they would be good to seal in your moisture from whatever water based product you choose, or to massage into the scalp for hair growth. Or kill two birds with one stone and make a spritz by adding water and a little conditioner to the mix above and use that for daily spritzing and you have a moisturizing spritz.

That sounds like a good idea, I think I'll do that. I'm not sure what the ratios should be though, do you have any suggestions?

Welcome!!! Fellow (part) Moroccan here!! I'm not sure what your hair type is without seeing any new growth. Maybe 3b/3c or 3c/4a? I don't know! But welcome to your new addiction!!!!!
