I'm not on the challenge but it's a challenge to try to gain 12 inches by taking care of hair to retain length and using vitamins and supplements to aid growth. most of the people on the challenge HAVENT had 12 inches of growth in one year in the past, so the challenge is to see how many can achieve the goal of 12 inches growth in one year.

Is that even possible? I thought most people gained half an inch per month, give or take a little depending on the person?

Re: New member: how are people gaining 12 inches/y

I am the one who puts the update posts up everymonth for this 12 inches in twelve months challenge.

Realistically most people don't grow 12 inches in a year but with the help of vitamins and other methods it is possible to boost up your monthly average growth rate. I have had a couple of months in the past wear I got 1 1/2 inches. That was with the help of a solid vitamin regemin. Other factors that may help with faster hair growth are exercise, Surge, scalp massages and such. Many people have doubled their hair growth rate using these. However everyone has a maximum monthly growth rate. Some may be as low as 1/4 inch a month some people can gain 2 inches a month. These factors can help bring this out.

Without vitamins my hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per month, with vitamins I can get much more.

The challenge is just to see if we can bring out the potential our hair has. If we don't get the 12 inches fine. At least our hair will be longer stronger and healthier.

I hope this helps answer your question and WELCOME!

It's good I have a hair journal, otherwise I couldn't answer your question.

I may need to reconsider this reg.
Vitamin Shoppe Hair Skin and Nails
One a Day Multi
L Cysteine(sp)
Biotin

I don't know the exact dosage though.

Re: New member: how are people gaining 12 inches/y

Thanks DSD! I took L-Cysteine 500mg for one month and that was it.

My hair usually grows 1 inch every 2 months. I've only measured my hair twice (2 months) so far. The 1st month (April), I measured 1/4 inch; the 2nd month (May), I measured 3/4 inch...a total of 1 inch in 2 months.

There are people who are able to get 12 inches in a year without taking vitamins. My best friend gets a solid inch a month and doesn't exercise and doesn't take any vitamins. I think it's genetic for her.

For some folks, they started off when a slow growth rate but were fortunate enough to find the missing link (whether a particular vitamin, specific food, exercise, etc) that kept them from getting the inch a month.

But for other folks, they try all types of stuff and still have a 1/4-1/2 inch growth rate. Either the missing link hasn't been discovered yet for them or an inch a month isn't possible for them. I'm not sure.

I'm currently growing 1/2 inch a month with vitamins. Now that my regimen has been perfected the growth rate will eventually increase to 3/4 - 1 inch per month.
