Never going to grow :-(

{{HUGS}}.....I know you feel discouraged right now, but you have to think positive...ok? You're going to reach your goals. Have patience and continue to love on your hair...it will grow.

I agree. My hair grew the most when I was not thinking about hair growth. My 3 and half years of being natural my hair grew well. I was getting cuts and all types of things using heat and everything and my hair was just growing. (It was not as healthy as it could have been which is why I have made changes) I think it was because I was not paying attention to it. What do they say, a watched pot never boils. Just be patient and enjoy your hair in every length stage you reach. Focus on keeping it healthy and mastering styling at every lenght. Before you know it you will have reached your goals.

Trust me, I have never had a problem growing hair but it seems this last 8 months of healthy hair care have been the slowest growing for me. It's mostly just all of the watching. Continue to treat your hair well and enjoy it where it is. At least you have support here. HTH

I just did my big chop and I’m very discouraged. I feel like my hair isn’t growing like it should. The sides aren’t growing at all. I don’t think I’m going to get ½ inch this month. Also, I think I’m allergic to sulphur (I’ve been getting headaches with BT) so I can’t use growth aides. I never had long hair as a child. Right now I can’t see how I will reach my hair goals.

I feel where you are coming from. I just started paying attention to my hair and I am already impatient that I am no seeing results as fast as I would like. But what helps me get through is taking notice of the small, but significant changes that my hair has gone through. For example, my hair is finally feeling moisturized, even when I don't have a ton of products in, I am seeing a whole lot less breakage, and I am aware that my hair is responding to what I have been doing to it. I saw your fotki and saw how much growth you already had 17 days after your BC. Just realize that your hair will grow at its own pace, and all you can do is be patient, and celebrate the little things. Eventually, your hair will get back to where you want it.:)

ITA with what the other ladies have said. Sometimes it just seems to take more time b/c you're watching out for growth. If you're feeling impatient put some braids or twists in it, and give it some time. That way you can get it off your mind. when I bc'd I had the same problem. My hair could not grow fast enough. But I put in twists for the next foew months until it reached a length I felt good about styling and wearing out, and it's been growing ever since. Keep your head up, and lots of hair blessings!:)

:( PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!Remember a watched kettle never boils........Once you find out what works for you and you get into a routine your hair is going to flourish. I know it's hard to believe and things aren't looking so hot at the moment, but whatever you do don't give up. Hey think of it this way "Slow and steady wins the race".;) Your hair will grow and by this ime next year I won'y even recognize the back of your head.:)

I understand how you feel, chocostudent.

We all go through those times when we are so discouraged we can't see the positivity.

Your hair WILL grow, becuase that's what hair does :)

If you made progress with your hair once, you'll make it again.

If the sides aren't growing as much, the hair may be in the 'resting' phase of grwoth, meaning that once this is over, it will grow again at it's normal pace.

Alot of the LHCF members were neck/ shoulder length when they joined, and are now Armpit/ Bra strap length!

Patience, determination and discipline will get you to your goal.

Hope you feel better. :)

Hair grows at different speeds.
Like, I think my hair grows slower than average. I really don't think I get that 1/2 inch every single month. I might get my 1/2 inch every 2 months.
But one this is for sure....
I know my hair IS growing!

And yours is too!
Don't fret....just give it time! :)

Shoot, I'm sitting here trying to cheer you up....when I feel the same way about my slow growing hair:lol: .

ITA. I think giving other people advice about the same issues we are having helps us take our own advice:lol:

I feel the same way sometimes but I just know it's the shrinkage that plays with my head. My hair looks the same length at 9 inches as it did at 6 inches because no matter what it just shrivels up to the same length. Also, other people will notice sometimes before you do that your hair is growing.

I saw your album and left you a comment.
Doing the big chop will mean that you will have all healthy hair. You really are starting fresh and that's fantastic! No old raggedy hair to get on your nerves. Drink lots of water, Eat carrots, massage your scalp and stay moisturized.

You'll see beautiful healthy hair soon even without the Sulfur.

I guess one good thing is when I reach shoulder length next time I’ll know how to take care of my hair.
I think many of us who had short hair, not that long ago can relate.

I tell folks that this is a journey and as in many journeys you have twists and turns, valleys and moutains but you must have all of that in order to have the journey.

Keep a hair journal make sure you have plenty of before pictures and for this time which I called the wait and see mode you will see the progress. I can make you this promise. One day you will be on the other side of a post just like this one and will be talking to someone who is discouraged because of their hair.

You have your test now, which I also call the character building moments and soon your test will become your testimony about your hair to someone else.

You will be able to show someone that there is ANOTHER side and it is possible. Learn about yourself and your hair now.

I learned how to enourage myself when I felt my hair was not growing, I started stalking, I mean viewing  fotkis like crazy and creating in my journal a place to put all of these hair sites so that I could get to them. In my journal I have just about every single receipe for hair growth, moisture, etc. I started my journal December 5, 2005 after reading the Cathy Howse book. It is now almost 200 pages long. I have everything in there including the kitchen sink!:lachen:

I started sending emails to folks that had hair similar or exactly like mine in texture and asked all sorts of questions. When something did not work or my body did not like something then I would stop using it no matter how much others raved about it and kept looking for something that worked for me and my hair. I have a box full of products to show for this.

If you have a regimen adjust it how you see fit and keep going until you or your hair decides it does not like it anymore. This is what I have done these past two years and my hair has grown more and is at it's longest since I took a more rational approach about what my hair should and should not be doing. I dropped all expectations about what I thought with regards to the growth of my hair because to be honest I was going into territory I had not dealt with ever.

Hold on, you will reach your goals. We are always here for you.

Just be Patient! I know how you feel, & you don't have to have a growth aide to get good fast growth, Do you have a Good diet? Take a Multi-Vitamin? Excercise at Least 30 minutes Daily? I notice that when I doo all of those things my hair grows faster because I am getting blood flowing to my scalp, You have received great advice from all these ladies. You just sound so sad, But yes your hair will grow, what Products are you using? Is that your hair in the Avitar?

If these questions have already been asked I apologize! I didn't read thru all post just some LOL!!!

(((hugs))) Don't worry! Before you know it you will be wondering what to do with all this hair :)! It only SEEMS as if it's not growing, but it really is. Also, don't forget that with natural hair shrinkage plays a huge role.
And as someone else has already posted, other people will probably notice before you that your hair is growing! Don't give up hope!! HTH :)

Well you know your hair is growing. In just 17 days your hair started filling in nicely. I can't wait to see pics in says 6 months, by then you will have a nice thick head of natural hair:).

Girl, don't feel bad. You are not alone!

Not everyone gets 1/2 inch in a month. I don't and I used to feel so bad about that, but it is what it is. I don't use growth aides either. I am not allergic, but my hair seems to just do better without them.

What are your goals? Maybe you should start little. Or maybe not really have any actual length goals at all. I mean, maybe your can just focus on the health of your hair, caring fo your hair, having fun with your hair while letting it just do its thing - at any length.

Chocostudent,

Hang in there, lovely lady. Don't lose hope. As a former naptural, I used to get down all the time because my hair is not only soft and fine, when I was a nappy-head, it was also extremely curly so I could never tell if it was growing. I would always compare myself to my colleague who was also a nappy-head. Her hair grew downward and was so full, thick and dense that she could wear her hair in the most gorgeous two-strand twists I've ever seen. My hair, by contrast, seem to not budge. It grew outward rather than downward and all I could do is put it up in curly buns which I eventually grew tired of after two years. I would get the two-strand twists, but my hair is so fine that the twists just looked thin and limp, without body or volume.

One day I was invited to a wedding and decided to get my hair pressed for the occasion. Well, guess what: I thought my hair wasn't growing and after the press and 1 1/2" cut, my hair reached past my shoulders (the same length it is now!).

So, my thought is...and this is just a thought...maybe in 6 months, you could think about getting your hair pressed to prove to yourself that your hair is in fact growing.

Realize that hair grows. If it didn't, none of us would have new growth. Give yourself a break. I know it's hard but try to be patient, all the while striving for healthy hair first and foremost. For me, I'd much rather have thick, healthy hair rather than thin, see-through limp, long hair.

As a naptural, keep your hair plenty moisturized, drink lots of water. Eat well, exercise, take a multivitamin and take care of yourself.

Go out, buy yourself a nice outfit. Don't forget to pamper yourself and just love who you are. Take a long walk, go to a movie, perhaps take a break from this forum for awhile if it becomes too discouraging. Of course, we don't want you to stay away. ;)

I do hope that you feel better. Things will turn around, you'll see. Just hang in there and take care.

I soooo remember the feeling when I did the b/c and wanted my hair to grow. I wasn't used to short hair and I thought it would take forever to get back to where it was again. It was frustrating for me. But the growth sneaks up on you. You'll see that it WILL grow and that it is growing right now. I know it's hard to see the progress, but keep pics so that you can look back in a year or two and see how far you've come! :)
