has n e 1 here had negative effects when using supplements???? if so, is this common? and how bad were the effects? could it be due to using too much or too little of the supplement?

Same thing taking a lot of biotin and b complex suddenly instead of building up to it causes break outs.

DITTO! It didn't matter how much extra water I drank the bumps didn't go away until I completely elimated it from my routine.

If you take certain supplements on an empty stomach or after a really light meal, they may give you a stomach ache. I have this problem with B-complex, so to avoid that I just make sure I take it with a decent meal.

MSM caused break-outs all over my face. I had a few scars, too, but they've since disappeared (I use a alpha-hydroxy lotion on my face). I'm still taking MSM, and my skin looks fine now.

I experienced the worse acne / breakout on my cheeks I have ever had even though I drink gallons of water. I had to have several chemical peels to get rid the acne. I think it was biotin and B5 and possibly my body was not used to getting such a huge intake. I take MSM, flaxseed oil & evening primrose every so often but I am too scared to take biotin and B5 again.

Sorta kinda, but not really.

When I took evening primrose oil, my breasts got bigger which was an unwanted side effect for me, but my PMS disappeared and my hair and skin looked 100% better.

When I kicked up the rest of my vitamin regimen, my hairline expanded some too, but that has since stopped and my hair is definitely growing faster.

In general, however, my results with vitamins have been excellent.

the thing about the skin breakouts...did u ever breakout when NOT taking any supplements???? i mean, as in, r u a person that tends 2 get breakouts @ times...i'm just wondering b/c im a person that has never had a breakout in my life (ive had no more than 3 zits ever) and it makes me wonder would that mean that i WON'T breakout or if im just as likely 2 get that problem as every1 else.

i'm wondering if too much b-6 is bad. i've been hearing (on another LHCF thread) that it causes nerve damage if you take more than 50mg and my ultra mega vitamins contain 80 mg ! ! !
shocked.gif
can someone confirm or deny this because i'm just about ready to call up my doctor and bug his nurses until he gets on the phone and gives me a definitive answer.

[/ QUOTE ] either way u should check it w/ur doctor...the rule 4 using ANY supplement (including a multivitamin) is 2 consult ur physician 2 make sure it won't interfere w/any meds ur on and 2 see if u even need it.

Deeply rooted, please update us with what your doctor says. My multi also has 80mgs of B-6, so I'm a little concerned now too.

Just wanted to jump in here and say that I take MSM and biotin daily (plus 64 oz of water). I never experienced skin breakouts prior to starting supplements or after.

miss_brown,

i just got a call back from the support staff of my doctor and they were telling me that i should avoid taking more than 50 mg of b-6 because "adverse reactions" are posssible if i do so.

scary to think these vitamin makers don't think of this. looks like its just one tablet of GNC Ultra Mega Woman per day for me.

@ chocochiquita86 : i'm feeling what you're saying. i never really thought to check with my doctor before hand, but i'll definitely do so from now on. with or without a doctor telling me, i KNOW i need to take a multivitamin because my diet sux (living in a dorm and being forced to eat cafeteria food can do that to you) . . .

Thanks for the update, DR. I guess I'll start looking for a new multi after I finish this bottle

About the only supplement that gave me bad reacions was Squalene, containing Shark Liver oil. It caused my eyelids to become swollen & itchy and the skin there to get really crepey & thin. It took me a couple of weeks to figure out that that was the cause. As soon as I stopped taking it the symptoms went away. MSM caused me to get periodic breakouts for the first 3 months I took it. That went away and has not returned since though.

My worst negative result in 3 letters:

The kind that stays in and hurts not the kind that escapes unexpectedly (thank goodness.)

Lord have mercy when I first started on my vitamin regimen by body was like "what tha beeeeeep?!"
Never had any of the skin problems I've heard about but I did get an occassional head twinge, never a full blown headache. That only happened when I stopped drinking coffee.

The biotin made me itch everywhere, except my scalp. Like my arms chest, and legs. I was in my cube at work like that fabric softener, itching was all I thought about all day... But I don't drink alot of water so I had to drink about 6-8 glasses to stop the itching. I took about 2.5 - 5 mg a day. Now I may take it every other day.

That's what I thought. Except I want to loose the weight. ::Ok let me find the fine by _____________ challenge.::;)

Too many supplements with not enough water caused the most horrible breakout I ever had in my life! An esteem breaking breakout!!! Nature's Cure, Black Soap, Shea Butter, and Aloe brought me back to normal along with LOTS of water flushing and facials.
