Need help from the naturals

My hair is natural and about 3-5inches long when straight (its' cut uneven all over after big chop). I want wear a drawstring phony pony (with an attached comb). What is the best way to get my hair to lay down so that I can make a pony tail? I can't use gel because it will make my hair really curly.

the way i would go about it is to use lets jam....natural hair is generally NOT smooth, but the extra strength lets jam can work wonders! i would put it on damp hair, brush it, smooth it into a ponytail and then tie it with a scarf and go to bed....
