My hair has always been considered long or as "good hair". I am 23 years young, and since my youthful days my hair has stopped growing substantially. I am new to the forum and am seeing bits and pieces of how to care for your hair such as stretching, and bunning, etc. I just need to know where to start!

My hair went from being down my back to shoulder length from cutting all the dead ends (yes I went to the dominicans) however, it seems as if it will not grow as thick and strong and long as it did before. I've always been known for my hair and I just want to get it where it was once, and healthy of course!!!!

PLEASE HELP!

We might need more info, like hair type so people with similar hair may respond, but I LOVE me some jbco for growing thick hair.

Welcome! You've come to the right place for help!

As Phaer said, we need more info.

Hair type? Relaxed/Natural? Regimen?

Your hair will grow back to its former glory; it takes time and a good regimen....but you'll get there.

Yeah we need more info to assess your situation. Are you relaxed or natural? What products are you currently using? What are your hair goals ie are you working on length or thickness? AND you may want to completely obliterate your idea of "good hair" LHCF has a way of making you see that the only good hair is HEALTHY hair!

Sorry for the delay ladies I am horrible at navigating on this site....

I have curly curly hair...my curls can be tight or picked out to an afro...my hair is thick dry, but wet or blow dried I feel bald or like my hair is thin.

My hair definitely grows but not at the rate I would like it to, or as fast as it used to, but it does everywhere else (ew)....go figure

I apologize if I made it seem like the phrase "good hair" meant that my hair was better than others, i didnt mean it that way, I just meant that no one really took my hair concerns seriously since I still have a head full of hair that is "desirable".

I have color treated in the past. BIG MISTAKE, only because the lady didnt know what she was doing and when I went for a root touch up she did the entire head...my hair ended up green...and eventually fell out. I cut it all off dyed it back to black and havent colored since, that was like 7 years ago. I had used doo grow and dr. miracle religiously and it definitely worked, my hair grew down my back by the end of that year.

Never had a perm, but Ive always gotten wash sets and blow outs, but not too often because I do enjoy my curly hair.

Since joining LHCF i have picked up a few tips and have been googling and researching like crazy to find some help...I have grown my hair using the monistat treatment i found on youtube and so has my mother, her hair is super soft thick and curly not to mention healthy since she cut off all the perm and went natural about 2 years ago....

I do not see any split ends which surprises me because I think that is what stunts my growth. I have been using cantu shea butter as a leave in and been bunning like you wouldnt believe. I had mild psoraisis on the back on my head, and the monistat too care of it. in that area the hair was extremely thin and kinky and i could not pass a comb thru it with out screaming. Now there is more hair there than before.

I hope you ladies are still interested in helping me since i took so long to answer...I will update with any new ideas I may find and try out!

Thanks again,

Christine

I got confused for a second, then I looked at the date. :lachen:

Anywho, first I would slow down. The monistat and all of that should be a "bonus" or something extra-curricular you do after you find a basic regimen.

What products are you using that work? Categorize them.
What do you love, what do you hate?
What are your go-to hairstyles? Layout the best steps and products you like for your hairstyles. You may start to see the same products pop up, those are likely your staples.
What hair tools is best for your hair (comb, brush, etc.)
How often do you plan on washing?
Are you going to use shampoo?
Are you going to use heat? How often?
What condition are your ends in? Do you need a trim? If you do, it's best to just get it out of the way now, because it'll be harder to part with it later.

Sounds like you have fine, 3-class curls. I'd like to point you to maneandchic.com and naturallycurly.com. You'll have to dig back a few years on maneandchic, but it sounds like she has a similar hair type to yours and can help you out.

I saw on another post you did that you take a gang of supplements. I would chill on all of that as well, unless that's necessary for your fitness goals you mentioned. Yes, growing healthy hair starts on the inside, but it sounds like your issue is more of a retention problem.

When you first start out it definitely can be overwhelming. You want to pop every pill, slather your scalp with every growth aid, and drink unicorn tears and stanky leg to WL hair in 6 months. You'd be suprised that the best length retainers on this board and in real life, do the absolute LEAST.

Meet your hair's basic needs, find effective moisturizing products, and be consistent. You'll be Rapunzel in no time.

thanks for the feedback!
I will definitely try those sites out...

Ive only done the monistat once (i sound like a junkie right)...its pretty expensive!

the products I have tried are:
carols daughter black vanilla smoothie (deep conditioner) and leave in spray (drying but smells good)
carols daughter rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner (i love)
organix coconut shampoo
ojan intensive repair deep conditioner
I love all these products to my knowledge they are sulfate free...as far as promoting growth i am not so sure...
I do know rosemary and peppermint are blood stimulating oils that help aid growth...at one point i put a few drops of each in a spray bottle of water will massages and it seemed to help with growth...

as far as the tools i used/use are a knot brush or wide tooth comb, but i rarely use because im more of a wash n go type of styler...

the supplements i take are not all for hair growing reasons, while i am obsessed with growing hair, i probably am more obsessed at losing weight lol.... but the benefit of most of the supplements are they do have hair/nail growing properties... i recently took a nutrition class and found out about toxicity levels and so on so i have cut back, and kind of gotten lazy with it...

I guess i do need to take a deep breath and try to sit back and sort out my plan...i read a lot of testimonials of trial and error, and i didnt want to deal...

I am also going to resort to going back to products i used from child hood including home remedies we used to use on my hair (yes we, it took a village to comb my hair lol)
ive seen a lot of blogs with this too and i am sure it works to at least keep hair strong...i am just not the one when it comes to wasting food lol

avocado
mayo
eggs
olive oil

my grandma used to make me sit out in the sun with this mush on....maybe i need to stop being a cheap-o and give it a whirl...

sorry, but I just noticed that I was tagged (the android app does not notify me when I have messages. ) how are you doing now?

I agree with the others. Let's break this down newbie style.

1)What is your hair type? There is type for example 3c, 4a, etc Look at the chart here:

Real life examples:

Where do you fall...?
2) Products that you use? And in what order? And how often? For example How often do you shampoo and condition, and what products do you use and in what order? What do you use on your hair AFTER shampoo, condition and in between washes, if any.

3) How do you usually wear your hair?

4) What do you use to style your hair (brush, comb, etc because tools matter too) and how wide (for example if it's a comb), and when do you use them (meaning when hair is wet or dry)

5)Are you natural or relaxed or inbetween (texlaxed)? I assume natural but you may be texlaxed for all I know

6) Have you had any treatments that you need to mention: Brazilian blow outs, keratin treatments, etc and if so what's the brand?

7)What is the state of your hair now? You mention that it stays short or I guess medium (depending on what you think shoulder is)....are you seeing little hairs? Does it feel dry or is it soft?

ignore the ones you've answered. I scrolled down and saw some answers but you need to tell in what order you use the products and your hair type, how often you wash and condition etc
