Naturals who rollerset and/or just get their roots blown out.......

How do you do it? And what does the finished product look like?

I am going to be walking in a wedding late March and the bride is giving me problems about my hair. I told her I won't be straightening it for a year and would be willing to do a strawset but I don't think she liked the idea very much. Besides I couldn't find anyone in the philly/jersey area who is capable of setting my hair (for the strawset) without ripping it apart with a fine toothed comb, I really don't know what to do, I want to stay on my challenges... :(

I just did this the other day and I'll be doing a thread on it and putting pics in my album today. It came out very well.

I was gonna say the same thing. You can just wear it for that day without having to straighten your hair and risk damaging it in the process.

I forgot to add the fact that the bride ALSO wants everyone to wear their own hair. No weave, extensions, or wigs. :( What am I going to do?

I think that's ridiculous. I understand it's the brides wedding but I don't think it's fair to dictate what someone puts in their hair. What is her reason for not wanting weave? As long as it looks nice I don't see the problem. If it were me I would be honest w/my friend and tell them that I don't want to straighten my hair and that if it's a problem I won't be in the wedding. THis is just how I am and my friends know it. I am not sure what you should do but I definitely don't think you should do something to your hair that you don't want to. I think her requests put too many restrictions on you. I have been in weddings and I wore my hair in tiny 2 strand twists that were nicely curled and my hair looked just as good. Straight hair is not the norm for most black women, curly/kinky hair is and I think it's extreme to require you to physically alter your hair and not atleast allow you the option of weave/wig. If she really wants you in the wedding I think she should come to some type of compromise.

You're right, and thank God I have only paid for half of the dress so far. LOL I will propose a straw set or some other non-heat related style and see what she says...
