Naturals, what are some things you noticed after you ceased relaxers?

I'm the opposite. Never feared rain when I was relaxed. Now that I'm natural and normally have my hair in a twistout, Im less happy about being in the rain.

Never could understand why relaxed ladies were afraid of the rain :perplexed

That's was me too, I was more worried about my natural hair getting wet because that meant reverting and/shrinkage, although I'm relaxed now.

Great thread OP, there has been a lot of threads making me miss being natural at the moment

Thicker hair (for real, my hair, especially after a touch-up, would be thin or it would feel like I only had a few strands of hair)

Healthier scalp (my scalp feels really good now - it doesn't itch or flake). Also, my scalp doesn't have the weird feel of being gripped by something like a hand. Anyone have that feeling?

More hair retention

Darker hair (It's funny that others have mentioned it. I never understood why. I thought it was age-related.)

Also I forgot about the psychology behind it...............I no longer worry about rain, it just doesn't phase me anymore. I also love going swimming! Also, I love washing my hair now. In fact some argue I wash too much but it's quite resilient and holds up well, but I just love it so much. Doing it is quite soothing.

Rain? Loloo I don't ever recall worrying about rain and I swim 4X a week plus wash my hair weekly.

IJS...ok leaving natural thread now. *peeks back in* Ok leaving for real this time.

Nape is finally growing
Hair is finally a darker black
My scalp is healthy no more scratching my scalp off
Curls actually pop after a wash

When I was relaxed, all my ends had these white breakage points, and they would form no matter how often I trimmed. I haven't seen that at all since going natural..

my hair is way thicker, but I had medium density hair when I was relaxed too..

96-100% less breakage

more splits now that I'm natural actually

more soreness in my crown, in my "rough patch"

more "extreme" dryness at times, now that I'm natural.

less dandruff.

overall my hair and scalp is a million times better

- Little to no breakage. Without fail my relaxed hair would break off even when I took care of it.

- Ironically now, I have more issues with dry/itchy scalp with natural hair vs. my relaxed hair. I now have to use a dry/itchy scalp shampoo occasionally to combat that issue.

Also my hair still breaks but even after a setback/neglect, it has never been shorter than collar bone length. It would hover between shoulder and apl. But relaxed, my hair would break up to neck length with neglect.

My edges have filled in. They weren't terrible before, so I didn't notice.

My hair color. Relaxers darkened it a bit. It's a weird shade of brown blond.

I don't have to vaccuum my bedroom and bathroom everyday because my breakage/shedding has stopped.

I no longer have bald spots in my hair.

My hair is much stronger now. I'm APL fotr the first time in 20 years!

My hair is less porus.

Less tangles, less breakage, stronger hair. I love wash day more now. I only detangle wet hair, whereas I never detangled wet hair while relaxed.

My hair and scalp are still going through changes 4 years after giving up relaxing. I think my scalp was more damaged than my hair. Where my scalp and hairline met, the skin would just slough off it was beyond dandruff and disgusting.

I always thought the right side of my hair just couldn't grow or grew at a slower rate. Even during my hair journey, when my hair was inching towards BSL. I still had that problem. I would constantly cut the left to match the right. Once I went natural.. I no longer had that problem :)

I used to be natural and am now relaxed. Tell me, what is up with the soreness months after the relaxer? Why does that happen? Other than this mysterious soreness, I have had no scalp issues. I don't put anything on my scalp or hair after conditioning except that garnier fructise (sp?) serum. I was or cowash 6 days per week.

Sounds like relaxer after-effects on your scalp. I had the same soreness after each relaxer.

It seems my hair grew much faster once I stopped relaxing. I was truly baffled.

I enjoy coloring my hair now that I don't have to worry about double processing.

I grew up hearing I and my family had bad hair (not from my mom but from the neighbors). Since going natural I learned that my hair is super curly. I get compliments left and right whether straight or curly.

My scalp isn't sore anymore.

I have inspired several people to go natural and how to make their curls pop.

It's awesome!

My scalp isnt sore anymore
My hair retains twice as much length in a year
My hair is 10xs thicker
Dandruff/flaking is completely gone
I can actually do hairstyles in my hair and love them
My hair gets complimented
I'm able to stand out more (though thats not the reason I went natural)
My hair is healthier, more supple, shinier, and easier to manage in terms of finding a regimen that worked and being able to stick to it

I'm texlaxed as well. I haven't had a touch up since July.

I decided to go back to 100% natural recently and I'm enjoying my hair.

But ditto on waht everything else the ladies above me have said.

QUOTE=amwcah;17686733]I have been toying with the idea of going natural for a while now. My nape is natural. It seems like when I relax it it falls out.

I have about an inch of new growth. Last week I washed my hair after taking out my latch braids, and I noticed how darker it was from my texlaxed hair. It was coarser and stronger vs my fine, limp relaxed hair. It was so soft and moisturized vs my straw-like dry relaxed hair. Then...I worked out and my natural hair reverted. My beautiful flat iron job was ruined.

I so want to transition, but how do I manage my natural hair while working out?

Anyway, I love this thread. It is giving me inspiration to take the plunge.[/QUOTE]

My hair wasn't itchy & thicker roots..Extra money, people was charging me by the length..

Happy Hair Growing!
